  • What position does John hold in the company ?

  • @Roadlesstaken - THAT will be an audio show I will definitely listen to then ! You should toe-tally mention his position in your description above. 'Bout time we're finally hearing from the head-cheese on this sandwich.

  • @dw817 - Thanks for that suggestion, I added it.

  • @Roadlesstaken - UBetcha ! Man, if anyone's gonna feel the steam in this interview, he will definitely get it with both the entire reputation of Xanga and all eyes of it's clients and members upon him ! Set my computer calendar clock to remind me of this epic broadcast !

  • oh - this should be good but I'm out that night.  I'll have to send you a list of questions.  This might be a 4 hr show!

  • @ElusiveWords - Can't be 4 hours unfortunately, 2 hours max.  I would like it longer than not though, so we can get more in!

  • I hope everyone who is still around will tune in for this one.

  • @edlives - Thanks for the shout out on Xanga's FB page! Hopefully new viewers will see it.

@firetyger - Will you be on?

  • Rec'd to spread the word.  If I don't get to tune in live, I'll look for the recording.

  • @lonelywanderer2 - Thanks. Let me know if you have anything in particular you want John and I to discuss.

  • @Roadlesstaken - One good question you undoubtedly already have in mind is why was entire Xanga Team apparently inactive for so long.

  • @lonelywanderer2 - Yup, there will be a question about that.

  • Roadless, while I sometimes think I write pretty silly (or cynical) stuff, there is a message behind this post I wrote recently called, "The Prophet Of Profit," and there are questions in it, important to Xanga staff as that is whom I especially wrote this very particular writing for.

If you could please, give it a look-over and compare it with the questions you already have in mind to ask the CEO, and if there are some new ones that look good and time permits, please consider adding them to your roster. Thanks ...

  • ask him to shake his brain like an etch-a-sketch and just erase this whole idea about shutting down xanga. I want a plan C.

  • @dw817 - Yes will do!

    @amateurprose - I agree!  Let's making closing down not a possibility at all...if possible.

  • @firetyger - I heard your show and wanted to tell you I thought you were great.

  • I'm so impressed by these shows, and by what you are contributing in doing them. I'll definitely be tuning in for this one!

  • I would like clarification about whose blogs get automatically transferred to the new platform. Only those who donate? Only those who donate AND have Premium on the current platform? Everyone who donates whether they have Premium or not AND everyone who has Premium on the current platform whether they've donated or not?

Also, if all current Premium blogs are automatically transferred, will they please make it possible for us to use our credits to gift people a month of Premium?

  • @WrappedinWishes2 - As always, thank you for your big compliments!  Any particular questions you want me to ask John, btw?

@saintvi - That is a confusing piece, so I will be sure to ask that.  Thanks!

  • @Roadlesstaken - No I think you have it covered and will be your usual brilliant self. I meant the compliments and if I miss a show I'll actually listen later they are so interesting!

  • @WrappedinWishes2 - Great! Have you had any favorites?

@dw817 - I finished reading your post and it was a great read.  I added some of the questions you asked on there to my growing list of discussion topics.

  • @Roadlesstaken - I do but if I name my favourite I might hurt somebody else's feelings, and they were all awesome. It's just cool to hear people we read talking, and people have cool ideas. You bring it out with how you do the questioning, and it's really generous of you.

  • This should be a great show. One additional question I'd like to pass on (besides John's thoughts on my blog preservation charge plan) is if there's a way to archive all the private messages we have.

  • Should prove to be a very interesting show. It is at 6 am Monday my time so not so sure I'm going to listen live. But I would really like to hear John talk about two things:

What is the Xanga team's investment (emotional, physical, monetary...) in Xanga 1.0 and 2.0?
Why is it important to the Xanga team that Xanga continue? (Or is it important to them?)

  • @Roadlesstaken - Good deal ! If by some super-weird chance one of the staff members of Xanga wants to talk to me about ideas I have for the perfect blogging system, including presentation and layout of how a user's page would appear to the public, I'm more than willing to talk to them about 'em !

Cause there are things I know of that no blogging site has ever considered yet which could definitely boost interest to the viewers of the site and to the writers of the posts for them.

  • @SoullFire - Okay will ask if time permits!

@christao408 - I actually already had a question similar to what you just asked, but I think your wording is better so will use that instead.  Thanks!

  • Kudos to you for getting this interview! I actively blogged on Xanga for 6-7 years. I haven't blogged regularly in a long time. Actually, I went several months without even logging in to Xanga. A friend happened to mention Xanga closing up shop and here I am. I don't want to lose all of the precious memories I recorded here. Even though I haven't used her as of late, Xanga is still special to me. I know I'm not the only one who has moved on but has a personal treasure of memories stored here. I don't want to see Xanga go. I want to know the following. Does Xanga have user email addresses? Surely they do, right? I get email notifications of certain activity on Xanga. Why, oh why hasn't Xanga emailed every.single.user and notified them of the potential shut down and donation page? I'm grateful for my friend's casual mention of Xanga's troubles. I would've never known, never pledged money, and never downloaded my archives. Break a leg!

  • I second @saintvi on this one - I would like to know more about which blogs are being transferred, and why "True" members who aren't premium at this point in time are being overlooked.

  • Alex, I know you'll be well prepared for the interview.  Here are some more questions for you to consider.  I won't be able to tune in live but I'll catch the replay.

    1.  In terms of the dollars pledged and # of users pledging, are you satisfied with the progress to date?  Are you looking elsewhere for fundraising?

    2.  John, you probably recognize the need to do a lot more communication to the community.  Why hasn’t that happened?   What should we expect in the days ahead and after July 15th?  Is there something the community can do to help?

    3. There’s been a lot of suggestions on raising money from the community and outside the community.  Has the Xanga team been able to read them?  Which ones are you seriously considering?

    4.  The $48 / yr is an impediment for quite a few people.  Have you considered a different fee for those outside US or Canada? Are we able to give a gift subscription anonymously just as we do today?

    5.   For those who are not Premium of Lifetime members, I don’t mind paying a small fee if Xanga will migrate all my old entries.  Have you considered something like this?

    6. There will be those may decide after July 15th that they wish to blog again on Xanga.  Can they still reactivate their account after paying $48?  If they haven’t downloaded their old entries before July 15th, is there anyway they can recover them?

    7.  How will Xanga be able to promote and distinguish themselves from the other free blogging sites?

    8.  What type of support will there be for the users after July 15th assuming the fundraising is successful? Is there a revamp FAQ?  Will someone be monitoring our questions?

  • @whit1980 - Apparently someone else answered that question and it's because email providers may mark Xanga as spam if they send out all that emails to people who may not use those emails anymore.  At the very least though I think they should send out a mass message on Xanga.

@Lost_In_Reverie - Indeed, will certainly bring up the True membership to see if that plays any factor.

@ElusiveWords - Thanks for the additional questions.  I will try to ask most of them tonight, time permitting.  So many good questions!

  • I think Saintvi covered the most important question because I think there is so much confusion concerning this issue even of those that fully support xanga and have been trying to promote donations.

  • Thanks for the show with the CEO of Xanga. I am not sensing any anxiety in his voice or actions, and that is very disheartening indeed.  No I don't plan to write him or reach him further. If anything is going to be done, he has to do it now - or not at all.

  • I'll be listening to it shortly :) Can't wait!
