Tis Hard to Leave San Francisco
After two major back-to-back trips these past couple of weeks, my vacation days are sadly over. It has been a crazy and tiring time jetsetting around the country, but the memories and friends more than make up for it. I am very fortunate my work and school schedule allows me to have time to go on these trips now since I know I probably won’t have this luxury and freedom in the near future. I am also very fortunate I have the funds to pay for this expensive hobby (being a good money saver and being single really helps out a lot!).
This recent trip of mine was to good old San Francisco. I flew there with Bengozen last Thursday and came back on Monday evening (going from 60 degree weather to below freezing was so jarring!). With Sonychak as our chauffeur/host, we met up with other Xangans as we explored the many sides SF as well as San Jose and Berkeley.
Blah blah blah, enough of my talking. On to the pictures!
Sonychak getting back at me for what we did with his picture in Houston. That quote is totally taken out of context! He was putting this on his car’s window everytime we parked somewhere. I wonder how many people saw that?
Ruh roh!
Bengozen took WAY more pictures than me (about 800+ shots). He graciously gave me a few shots to use for this post. Stay tuned for the rest of his pictures coming soon on his blog! He certainly made great use of his new camera.
Us in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge. Hmm, is there something strange going on in the background? Let’s take a closer look…
The water tasted exquisite at the Exploratorium! There’s a hint of flavor in it, but I can’t quite place what it is.
They obviously got some good blowing experience.
Awwwww, already holding hands. I suppose they were doing so to play the musical bench, but I’ll let you guys believe whatever you wish!
Sumoneoverthere and Bengozen practicing their levitation abilities.
A very small sample of the yummy food we ate from all over town.
We had to wait 2 hours for our meal at The Boiling Crab in San Jose, but it was worth it! We managed to meet up with Manbeast and his gf too. I suppose they were worth it too =)Activating more group shots…NOW!
Eating at Sophie’s Crepes with Jess and Cognney makes me merry!
We apparently make the room glow yellow over at 100% Sweet Cafe
Picture with xkrazymonsterx before he had to leave us.
Looking sleazy over at Coit Tower
Over at Berkeley! Thanks for the tour AJollyDork!I didn’t take any videos on this trip, so you should go visit Sonychak’s blog for all the footage. Come see us in all our silly, funny, sarcastic moments! For your convenience, I’ll link his posts (and upcoming posts) below:
Day 1: Bridges Are Amazing!
Day 2: We Love Nerdy Museums
Day 3: Big Bell Size = RoadLessTaken’s Head Size
Day 4: Boiling Crab SlurpersSigh, I have to say bye for now to my travels and my long distance friends. It might be a while before I can fine myself traveling this far and often again. As much as I really don’t want to, I must re-enter reality. Hey, at least I have more time for you all here! I have a lot of catching up to do.

awwwww all good things have to come to an end. it looks like lots of fun! mmm boiling crab
dang 2 hours >< I never wait that long haha.
I love Inn and Out Burgers!! Looks fun! I’ve only been to SF very briefly… like 10 minutes hahah just to see the bridge….
what are you doing in that third to last picture??
Oh, you went to the Boiling Crab, that is a cool place. I was there few weeks ago and waited close to 3hrs… Wish there is one at NYC…
LOL wow. You guys did a lot of random stuff. The bros came out too. Good shit.
Looks like a ton of fun!
I’m trying to figure out another meet-up, either with a Xangan or two or with a group of people. I’m still trying to figure out my budget for the next few months, lol
You’re lucky to have gone to SF when the weather was so nice! It’s extremely rare to capture the Golden Gate Bridge without any fog obstructing it. And thanks a heaping lot for posting up all those photos of food. Now I’m hungry.
So Powerful!!!!! Bacon!
Why don’t you move to SF?
@fLiPgUy31O - wait, so where were you? Can’t believe they didn’t bring a picture of you around! tsk, tsk… those are some bad hoes you got…
i wannna go back to the bay!! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO TOOK SONLAY?! LOL
WOW. YOU WERE IN SAN FRANCISCO AND [emphasis on the "and"] BERKELEY, AND I DID NOT SEE YOU AT ALL. WOW, ALEX.
Aw! What fun! And the shot of the GG bridge brought back great memories for me! Looks like you kids had a blast! YAY! Good friends, good places, good food! YAY!

Thanks for sharing your pics!
HUGS!
PS…Berkeley was always a fun place to people watch (especially in the ’70′s…Ha!)
Ahh!! I’m so jealous (still). I have been stuck in Michigan for almost a month now, lol. Looks like you had a great time though
Cool! And the weather really cooperated! Sunny San Francisco!
Anyway, props for this: “being a good money saver and being single really helps out a lot!”
@aliceandrandy - Technically it was closer to an hour and a half, but I’m counting the wait before the place opened too. We got there at 11:30am and there were already 70 or so people in front of us! Do you live near by there?
@AmeliaHart - Inn and Out Burgers eh? Do they give cheaper room costs? =P
@repressedwriter - I’m clearly about to punch that guy in the balls =)
@SuperRat - Oh wow. What were you in SJ for?
@fLiPgUy31O - It was almost as good as Houston! j/k @sonychak. Yeah, both trips were good times.
@Cestovatelka - both small and large meet ups are great. I think I could budget out a trip again, but the problem now is timing!
@CuaSo - Wait until you see Bengozen’s food pictures. Now THOSE will make your mouth water.
@Diva_Jyoti_3 - Oh trust me, I would really love to move to that area. I have to first finish up grad school (done this semester) and then find a job over there. If so, I’ll be over there real fast!
@Utoppia@datingish - Eh, we were tired of seeing his face =)
@jeannie_dot_com - yup, gotta have his back! Er, head!
@xLove_Me_Alwaysx - Nuh uh, you will not be able to guilt trip me! Shouldn’t have gone on that retreat! Oh yeah, reverse guilt trip!
@adamswomanlost - We did some people watching in Berkeley too. Were there a lot of Asian people back then as well?
@vicdaily - Man, you need to find a way out of there!
@oxyGENE_08 - it’s true! When I was with someone in the past most of my money would go to them in some way haha.
I’ve never been to any state but that looks like fun. Maybe one day, I’ll go to California =D So many people there! I almost lost you in the pictures lol Looks like you had a great time. What exactly is your work? Just curious of course.
very nice last picture
@Roadlesstaken - I was there the week before New year, visit family at San Jose.. Most of the time I’m out there, just enjoy eating at new places.
@Roadlesstaken - I’m agreeing yo! Cos I wouldn’t have that much money in the bank right now if I was attached. LOL
OH YEAH! BOILING CRAB LONG WAITS YEAH!
Y U NO INVITE ME?
man, i miss sf.
You are having so much fun traveling lately…makes me kind of jealous )=
BUT! you’re back home so I have nothing to say now =P
You guys look like you had a lot of fun on the trip. I went to San Fran for the first time in November and met up with a few of my closest friends. It was soooo much fun! Although I have been to Cali 3 times in the past 2 months, I still haven’t had in and out burger! Heard it’s a must have…is that true?
Man, I can’t wait until I can attend a xanga meet up! Maybe there’ll be one in St. Louis someday, and people can stay at my house! (Which I don’t have yet.)
@Hinase - I work for the United States Tennis Association. We don’t exactly have a 9-5 job.
@swtaznxtc90 - Well, I guess you’re welcomed to join me sometime. I’ll probably take some short weekend trips in the near future. Wanna join?
@CaKaLusa - thanks for showing my page some love.
@PervyPenguin - I invited all SF Xangans to meet up with me! Sadly you were away during the time =(
@superGchik - I already miss it too. How familiar are you with SF?
@babixling - That’s true. Now it’s back to the grind XP
@X0X0playerette - !!! No In-N-Out yet??? Haha I make it a necessity to go to one at least once every CA visit. Get animal style fries and burger. You won’t regret it.
@randaness - If I ever find myself in your area I do hope we can hang out =)
@Roadlesstaken - I’ve never heard of that organization. It’s interesting nonethless.
@Roadlesstaken - mAd propz Yo!
looks like a ton of fun.
@Roadlesstaken - i lived around sf for about 3 years. it was my backyard.
@Roadlesstaken - Is it weird to meet people in person for the first time? Do you give each other hugs right away, or stand around awkwardly and fiddle with luggage?
@superGchik - How come you left? I would not want to haha
@ALovingAdversary - Wait until you see Ben’s pics
@randaness - We generally grab each other’s butts.
@Roadlesstaken - Oh! Good to know! *writes down note for future reference*
@Roadlesstaken - I’m so jealous of people that are good at food photography. Whenever I take a picture of food, it just looks like glump on a plate
Hahahahaha, I laughed at almost all your pictures! You guys look liked you all had a blast! How is living over there? I’m considering moving to Monterey Bay… or near there. Any suggestion from one Asian guy to another?
It’s an Asian invasion!
Let me know if you want to borrow my sweatshirt next time. LOL
@Roadlesstaken - i came back home for my family for the time being. i plan on going back but i’m not sure when yet.
nice; looks like fun (:
You guys went to Asian Ghetto? :O Next time you guys are in Berkeley, you should also try out Brazil Cafe (the shack). Tri-tip sandwiches ftw
I should travel with you next time, ppl really go out of the way to meet you and take you places
or I also forgot. CHEESEBOARD. It’s like the best pizza ever.
@KenxanderDaGr8 - I actually live on the east coast, but I would love to move to the Bay Area one of these days!
@CareyGLY - Haha nah, I wouldn’t do it justice. It’s all yours!
@hilabpartnerxD - I was there indeed. It was our meet up point with our Berkeley contact. Did you happen to be in the area on Saturday?
@Yohkom - You definitely should!
@hilabpartnerxD - You know pizza was like the one thing I didn’t try in the Bay Area, but there seems to be a lot of good ones. Next time!
Why is Sonlay such a perv? haha
Oooh I see. Nah, my parents wanted me to come home, so I went back home for the weekend and came back Sunday. I didn’t even know you guys were gonna visit Berkeley lol. But yeaaa! Next time (: If I had known earlier, I would’ve given you guys like a list of places to go or something xD
Looks so fun put more pics are you going to San Diego?
& hmmm Sonlay trying to do those penis pics? haha
omg i need to try a crab place. theres really no good ones in toronto, at least none where they throw it on a table for you!
zomgzomg i just read this while i’m currently starving.
damn those food pictures didnt mke it any better
@twentyse7enn - Because he’s a pervy troll, as you can see above. I’m not too surprise by that development.
@hilabpartnerxD - Thanks, perhaps next time then!
@hollywoodfever91 - I am overdue for a San Diego trip. When will you be there again?
@suuperstar - Yeah, the Boiling Crab brought out food in plastic bags and lets you have at it! Pretty cool.
@ordinary_gir1 - Avoid Bengozen’s blog later then. He took much more mouth-watering shots!
@Roadlesstaken - There were people of all races…but the fun, interesting people to watch were the hippies who were hold overs from the 60′s…the very bohemian people…the “cult” people…and sadly the homeless people who had some severe problems. I was a grad student with not much $$ and going to Berkeley and visiting shops and bookstores and galleries, getting a cup of coffee, and sitting on a bench watching people and talking to people was a fun afternoon.
Come visit LA. I go to the one in Westmininster :]
Stop posting such things, Alex! I’m getting too jealous for my own good!
thanksss for stopping by! it’s like san francisco, but…not. lol no, it’s not like SF at all, it’s just my xanga, though i wish it was that warm here in toronto….it’s been subzero for weeks now!!! =(
yay I live in SF! Seems like you had a blast! Next time check out the Academy of Sciences in GGPark. Esp the night life on Thursday nights.
I was born and raised in S.F. I live in the East Bay. For now, I’m working at Stanford. Why the hell didn’t you let me know you were coming to the Bay Area? Glad you got to enjoy our record warmth, thanks to La Nina keeping the storms to the north
@mandyman27 - Don’t worry, it will be some time before my next travel post
@mizz_fabolicious - Ah, so I’ve heard. Have you tried throwing hot water outside to see if it turns immediately to gas?
@five_twenty - Thanks for the tip. As much as I saw of SF, I still don’t think I’ve seen everything. That’s one of them!
@rpghero27 - I mentioned quite a few times in my past blogs that I’ll be in town. Go check it out if you don’t believe me =) . Yes, I quite enjoyed the 60s weather!
Awh! Looks fun. (!) And the food looks oh so delish!! Wah T________T.
Lolz at Sonlay!
Great pics! You’re making me miss the Bay so very much right now haha
@MzCha - Oh, did you use to live there?
@phosphor_stars - San Francisco is known for having way too many good food choices. Still so many places I haven’t eaten yet that I want to try!
Oh, that looks like a fun time. Too bad I don’t live in SF anymore…
lol! That looks great. Glad you had fun! =D
Awesome looks brilliant fun!….errm how exactly was the picture quote ment to be taken lol
Your expression in the ‘Looking sleazy over at Coit Tower’ is hilarious you should be in one of those 70′s cop show remakes or something.
Bet the warmer air and sunshine felt good!
@christao408 - Don’t you miss all the great food places there?
@nov_way - Thanks, I sure did!
@BFB1131 - Haha, in the original context of that quote I said I was just kidding. Ah well
@greatredwoman - For real. Now I have to deal with impeding snow coming -__-
As usual, it looks like you are all having an excellent time! I fear that I’ll soon start living my life through stalking your blog and travels, being a very poor college student.
Those were some beautifully decorated waffles, by the way. (: TAKE A NAP… and somebody let me know the next time you all are around Chicago/Indy/St. Louis.
Thanks for stopping by!
I see you are the friend of the I hate Houston guy
San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. I’ve only been once. I think I need to go back!
Looks like you had a great time here! Sorry that I was way too busy with moving to even have a meal with you!
Next time you visit, I’ll definitely make it out!
these photos of people having fun is getting me more and more miserable, missing out on all the actions…
@Invisible_Crazed_Chica - Will do. I have been meaning to travel to Chicago since it’s so close. I just need to find a buddy to go with!
@heracheung - Why yes, Cakalusa is a friend of mine. How do you know him?
@TheCheshireGrins - I think that’s a good idea. Maybe we can plan it so we can both be there at the same time?
@Femme003 - No problem, moving is more important than me haha. Next time.
@maniacsicko - There’s some Xangans in your part of the world. Y’all should meet up!
That would be fun!!!
Boiling Crab, hell yeah!!
I love the exploratorium! Awesome place to geek out in. LIKE!
What did you do in Berkeley?
I LOVE THE BAY AREA
@bAbiiExxPiNay - Never heard of it until the trip, but glad I found out about it!
@Linh_L - I know right? Sonlay was saying it was a place for kids, but I think that if you like it as a kid why not like it as an adult?
@Senlin - I mostly got a tour of Telegraph Road and the university there. Sonlay’s next video will be from that day, so stay tuned for that!
I’ve never been to San Francisco, but now I seriously think I may make a trip over there! It looks like you all had so much fun!
Is it back to the grind for you now?
@oOo_itsJuJu - trying to get back in the grind, but I’m finding myself being uber lazy.
Looks like a fun trip. I had to laugh because apparently you only have Asian friends.
@Roadlesstaken - There are many things about life in SF I don’t miss, but the availability of great food of all different sorts and at all different price ranges is definitely something I DO miss!
@PopeOnABomb - The majority of the people I know from the Bay Area are Asian, yep.
LevitAsian! Ok that was lame
@kaiori - Hey, that’s better than anything I tried to come up with.
went to the cali about 5 months ago and ate at the boiling crab as well, good stuff! wait was terrible for the tummy though.
@LeeKymKween - I’m glad I wasn’t too hungry beforehand, so the wait made it taste even better!
Boy, I never been there but trying to visit this summer ugh my family & I are “supposedly” vacaying there hmm we’ll see
@hollywoodfever91 - Might as well since you’re in CA anyway!
Lovely pictures. Beautiful people.
Aw, SF…. good place. I don’t know how you do it man, travelling all over the place. First thing I’m doing when I graduate, is going to a xanga meet. You better be there!
@AzureRecollections - I’ll try to. If you pay for me I will definitely make it!
@RestlessButterfly - Yeah, except for Sonychak…j/k
@Roadlesstaken - Haha, done
On the condition that I am rich or there are affordable fares at the time of booking!
hahahaha those are some pretty awesome pictures. I love the one with you and the guys sitting on the chairs! Oh the fountain toilet is pretty awesome too.. and all of the food! I’m jealous.
@AzureRecollections - Alright, if you travel somewhat near me you don’t have to pay for me as well. Sounds good?
@xkthily - Hey you’re in NY, you have a lot of food options there too!
Coit Tower. i like that name, for reasons i can’t think of, right now.
nice trip, Mr. Carmen Sandiego.
@TheBigShowAtUD - Is it because it sounds like coitus? Hmm? Oh, and more like Carmen Sanfrancisco! Am I right?? *crickets*
Nice pics. I’d love to visit California sometime. I was in San Francisco long enough to get off one plane and on to another one. Looks like you had a fun trip.
@Roadlesstaken -
Yes. Although I recall, I owe you a bbt.
@ikaika53562 - That’s definitely not long enough! next time casually miss your next flight and get yourself stuck in CA.
I wonder if anyone left you their phone numbers on your picture. hee hee…
On the 3rd last picture – I can’t imagine what you were trying to do. lol…
@ElusiveWords - haha, I wish. Oh, I was just attempting to punch him in the groin. You know, the usual.
I can’t believe he left your photo on his windshield! It was pretty funny though! I know what you mean about traveling… I wish I can do it more often but time, work, and money is the problem. I hope one day you can make it out to Oklahoma! =)
@suefa_lee - What would you say is in Oklahoma?
great recap of your trip!
Your friends look so awesome to hang out with!
@Sophannieta - They are. I’m not too shabby to hang out with either, but that’s just my opinion.
wow excellent weather in socal. kinda makes me wanna move out there after graduation!
@rxglasshalffull - San Francisco is in Northern California fool!
@Roadlesstaken - ohh thought you went to san diego…my bad =P
ok totally didnt read the title of this post LOL
@rxglasshalffull - Double fail.
@Roadlesstaken - story of my life =(
“We apparently make the room glow yellow over at 100% Sweet Cafe”
LOL!!!!!!!
Yea, the bay area weather is great. It feels like April now (:
Californians are so spoiled. -.-
How did you like Berkeley? :’D
@nepenthium - It was a very nice campus. Wait, is that where you’re going to school right now?? I remember that you’re in CA, but forgot exactly where.
@Roadlesstaken - did you get harass by the homeless people? (:
@Roadlesstaken - lol yes, UC Berkeley. I thought it’s a rather ugly campus though LOL. You shoulda told me and I could have given you a tour XD
@nepenthium - Your campus has a bell tower! Nothing ugly about that. Yeah, I made a couple announcements that I would be in the area but I guess I wasn’t able to relay that message to you. It would have been pretty cool if we had met up!
I harassed the homeless people! j/k
@Roadlesstaken - lol! the bell tower is the only pretty part of an otherwise disjointed mash of buildings xD
wow.. I should have been there. lol . good times! no wonder you had a heavy heart leaving SF,, next time include me yah?
Very helpful info, thank you for your article.
