New York Xanga Meet on July 24th (Updated 07/11)

Hey everybody,
A bunch of people and I are meeting up in New York next month, so we decided to have an official meet up! So far, it looks like it is going to be a pretty decent turn out with people coming from out of state (i.e. California, New Mexico, Canada, Maryland).
The meet up will be a laid back social gathering in Central Park. Similar to what we did at the San Diego Meet, everyone that comes could bring something such as food, supplies or games to play. I believe Mr. Vanedave will be giving us a comedy show as well. I will also be offering free massages to everyone (just kidding).
Details are still being finalized. So far, here’s what we have planned:
What: New York Xanga Meet
When: Saturday, July 24th (noon-whenever we finished)
Where: Central Park, near Columbus Circle side (If it rains, we’ll meet up at the nearby mall)
Activities: Pot luck, park games, karaoke?, etc. (suggestions welcomed)
Other Details: Edlives is donating two Xanga shirts from the BFN online store and I’ll be donating the Xangans book to be given as prizesWho is coming (As of right now):

*In case of rain that day, I need some suggestions for alternative activities we could do. Can you think of any? New York is a pretty big place, so I’m sure there’s a lot.
*Any other suggestions or comments you can think of.I’ll update this post as new information gets added. There’s a lot of people going that I can’t wait to see again or see for the first time. Definitely looking forward to this! Spread the word =)

I’m going to try to be there! My parents are kind of wary of “internet friends”…and since it’s a Saturday, I can’t pretend I’m going to work. If they don’t stop me though, I’ll be there for sure! As for alternative rain plan, there are lots of karaoke places in the city but not sure if everyone wants to pay to go chill in a room? Sadly, there aren’t many places indoors for such a huge group to gather that’s free. The only other alternative is to hit a restaurant or as someone mentioned, someone’s pad big enough to house 25 ppl. If I find anything else, I’ll let you know…

Idea for what people should bring: Name tags with their Xanga screennames written on them. That way when we meet, we can just look at a person and see their screenname.
@Roadlesstaken - haha, and I would agree with that saying; but only because all the xangans are gonna be there.
@Coffee_Kaioken - Yeah, I was thinking about bring name tag stickers we can use to help people find each other, although that might look a little cheesy haha. At the SD meet we all sorta just mingled and got to know each other that way. I’ll probably have a sign in sheet or something to be used for the prize drawing.
I can bring something from Chinatown. Or name tags. Whichever is needed more.

@Roadlesstaken - NYC is kind of funny in that as much as people stay indoors, unless you’ve got some place to be, you’re always outdoors. For large groups, I can only think of venues like museums, a bar, or perhaps just walking around, but there’s not a whole lot that can accomodate almost 40 people. It doesn’t make much sense to plan for indoor activities when people will have outdoor gear. Good bet is to get someone to bring a large tent (I don’t own one unfortunately) and we can chill out underneath in the park. If it looks like it’ll rain, I’d say plan on either soggy games or us locals can take you on a tour of different parts of the city (since at a little over $2 a ride for unlimited distance by subway, it’s a real cheap option).
@whotakethmycoke - Ah I see. Some people also mentioned a karaoke place. Do you know of any?
@Roadlesstaken - Not personally, but since I can’t sing worth a damn, you’re all probably better off that way. K-town’s always a good bet for that though (not to mention froyo for the West-coast people).

it might be hard for everyone to go though since it requires being of age i think? or some places do.
i remember we went to a few public sitting areas that aaron took us but thats all we really can do.
@lCrAzYAzNl - Worse case scenario if it rains we just find a place to all hang out and mingle for a bit before going off to do our separate things. Lets hope rain does not come!

Hey Alex, here are two suggestions for rainy day alternative:
-karaoke @ duet for their afternoon special ($12 per person from 1pm to 8pm), they have large room that fit 25-30 people
-scavenger hunt at museum of natural history (break into groups; we would need to plan out this game like coming up clues and facts about the museum and maybe prizes)
how about bbq at the beach on sunday (july 25th) if it’s a good day?
is there any plan for the evening on the 24th? if we go out to eat, we might need to make reservation for a large group.
@Trigger821 - I like the Karaoke idea. Would be a good back up activity in case it rains, or even if it doesn’t it would be fun. How soon would we need to book it?
Most likely some of us will be doing other stuff as well, but probably not in such a huge group. We can plan out smaller events on the other days privately.

@Roadlesstaken - Well…I guess it depends how large our group ends up being. I think Amnity Hall (80th West 3rd St.) is quite spacious. I guess it also depends what you want to do…I’m assuming you’d want a place to get alcoholic drinks and not a sit down dinner/lunch place. It sounds silly, but another good place to hangout would be in the MET. There’s this hall area that’s like an “indoor” garden and also a coffee shop nearby. And I don’t think it’s the area where you have to be hush hush quite. (btw, I live in nyc
