Time for another edition of Chan’s Movie Review:

    Hard Candy

First off, this is one of the most psychologically thrilling
movies I have ever seen.  You really don’t see too much, but the way
that they imply certain actions and internal struggles was just too
    good.

    Note to the girls:  you
will probably really like the girl because she does some things that
you may sometimes wish you can do to an awful guy.  Note to the guys:  be prepared to feel some pain in your balls (AIYA!)

I’m not gonna spoil too much, but it’s basically about a girl who
psychologically/physically punishes a pediphile.  However there is much
    more to it…

Great job acting for the two stars.  Seriously, even though it was
mainly them talking the entire movie, I never really felt bored because
you just hold onto every single word, feeling every pain that the guy
feels, feeling all the internal emotions…yea, pretty fun stuff.

This movie will make you think about your morals and will offer a lot of tense moments, just to add a final warning

Pros:  Acting, atmosphere, camera work, yea quite a lot
    Cons:  Sandra Oh’s
character wasn’t really that necessary (she’s only in the movie for 2
minutes or so), could have had a little more back story on the guy

    Chan’s Final rating:  A
    —————————————————————————————

AHHH I’ve been so sick the past few days, but what can you do?

Guess what, I”m gonna be living in Susquehanna 183 next year with Jeff, Marvin, and Kevin!  Too bad we didnt get Erikson but o well, Sus is still good.  I can’t wait…

So yea, that means im gonna need to pay some more money for next year
I got tuition covered with the grants I got from FASFA, but That still
leaves another 8,000 dollars or so for housing.  Hopefully I can
win one or both of the UMBC scholarships i applied for and hopefully I
can get that insurance job over the summer to help pay for some.
I don’t wanna burden my parent’s funds too badly…we’ll see what
happens.  If I decided to live on campus my senior year I’m gonna
try to be an RA so I can get some free housing

Tonight at 8:30pm I’m gonna register for classes.  I’ll get into
most of the classes I want (maybe).  We’ll just have to find out
    tonight…

    EDIT:  Pictures added****

Vote for Crystal Yu, Nayana Davis and me (Alex Chan) in the SGA elections!  The Asian Invasion is about to begin!

    What a busy weekend!

    First:  Off to Silent Hill:

On Friday night Raquel and I went to see Silent Hill
It was both great and bad; the acting was really awful and took away
some of the experience.  Seriously, the lead actress did some
stuff that make you go “what the hell?”.

However, what the movie does well is the creep out scenes.  Holy
crap, I would be having nightmares if i was 13 years old!  They
did a good job giving you that feeling of dread each time the siren
rang.  Everything is dark and rusty and ahhh!

Even with it flaws, this movie is probably the best adaptation of a
game to the movie screen.  If only the acting was a little bit
more realistic this would have been one of the better creepy movies
I’ve seen.  All i can say now is that the parts that were good in
the movie were really good while the bad parts were really bad.

Pros:  great graphics, CGI, good environment
Con:  confusing plot, bad acting, unreal character actions

    Chan’s Silent Hill rating:  C+

    Quadmania

Raquel and I got there kinda late, but we still had a great time!
You guys should have gone; definitely worth the 10 bucks to get
in!  Caricatures, free food, free drinks, free prizes, easy
carnival games, gladiator joust fighting, mechanical bull, dodgeball
inside a moon bounce, oxygen bar, Taking Back Sunday Concert (which
wasn’t that bad!)…yea, definitely worth the money.

    pics:

    Look, I’m getting drawn!

Final product (my eyebrows aren’t THAT bushy are they??)

    Raquel’s turn

    Look, it’s Katie Couric!

    Best prize ever

    Pool Party

After hanging out w/ raquel at CP i headed back down to UMBC for the
FYC Pool Party!  WOOOO!  Actually it was more of a social
amongst the FYCers haha.  there were a couple of other people, but
for the most part it was just us.  Still, I had fun and i stayed
there a lot longer than I thought.

    Pics:

before going down to the pool

    I can’t swim!

Yay, floatation devices are my savior

    Happy-go-lucky

    —————————————————————————————-

Im not looking forward to writing my two papers this week…o well, I’ll wing it

  • Quadmania this Saturday!  Looks like it’s going to rain, but the indoor stuff will still be fun.

    ——————————————————————————————
On Sunday my group, the First Year Council, will be throwing an indoor pool party at the RAC from 6-8pm
Don’t hesitate to come by with friends!  There will be free food
and drinks there at well, so what do you have to lose?  You can
hold off on studying for a little more…
    ——————————————————————————————

So yea, not too much interesting going on.  Just been going
through the motion of classes and tennis.  So many papers I have
to do in the next couple of weeks…not fun.

O man, I hope I can get into the classes I wanted.  They fit my schedule so perfectly!  Come on don’t fill up….

  • Paintball

CSA Paintball was a blast again!  It felt so nice outside
too.  Add to the fact that our team won all of the rounds made
this day pretty damn cool .  My team rocked; what can I say?  Musta been because of the girls

The happiest moment for me was when Kei Wai (my cous) and I won the
first forest match.  We should have lost that one; they had 5-6
people left while we only had me, my cous, and Frankie’s g/f.
Well i didnt know that at the time, so i rushed the first bunker,
thinking that my teammates were covering me.  Luckily, the other
team didnt notice me, so i quickly bunkered the 2-3 people hiding out
there.  Afterwards I provided cover fire while Kei Wai bunker the
second one..and we won!  AHHhhh that felt great… haha.

BTW, I didn’t meant to shoot you that much, Steve

    Some candid shots from today:

    Great faces guys

    dirty and tired out

    Group shot

    Silly group shot

    Close up

We found a partially-skinned bear out there!

    mi familia

I swear this wasn’t a planned shot at all.  Guess Rob just models naturally

Poor cous; he got shot in the neck heh

My teammate Suds was the apparent culprit for this mark on my side. Shot me freakin 3 times in the same spot.  OUCH!

    Yea, great great time…

To end this post, i’ll leave you guys w/ pictures from the fire that caused traffic to stop on the way back home.

expected it, based on the practices and leadership.  Very happy
with the results after a VERY long day.

Here’s 2 great videos.  1st one is Jon and Andy in
their “Ugly Girl” skit and the second one is Jon performing his martial
arts…in a Domo suit.  Hilariousness ensues!
