Ending the Year Right
Guess where I am?!
Alooooohaaaaaa Hawaii!
Okay okay, for those of you with keen eyes you can probably tell that I’m not really there…yet. However, I WILL be in Honolulu in a couple days. I will be taking my first trip there with a special someone (more on that later, maybe) from December 21-26 and I am very thrilled to go! I’ve been meaning to visit there for the longest time, so I’m looking forward to the luaus, the beaches, the mai tais, and the warm, sunny weather. I’m also look forward to meeting up with @Arenadi and @Absolutangel64 while I’m in town, both of whom have been very helping in the planning of my trip. Thanks!When I come back, I will have a few days to rest up and get used to East Coast time before I host my New Years’ Eve Party at my place in Virginia! I threw one last year that was very fun and successful (see my recap post here). This year’s party is looking to be twice as big. While I had around 25 people last year, this year I’m expecting between 50-70
. There’s going to be a lot of games, karaoking, and drinking going on that night that’s for sure. I’m already nervous about the pictures and videos that will come out, but at least I know I will be having a good time in all of them!In some ways, I’m actually more excited for my NYE party than my Hawaii trip because so many of my closest friends will be there, including Xangans I’ve gotten to know over the years from California, Canada, Texas, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York. I wonder if they understand how much it means to me that we will all be ringing in the new year together? Well, it really does guys. Who’s ready? Leggo!
So, did I mention just how excited I am for these final weeks of 2011?

HAVE A BLAST IN HAWAII!!! I cannot wait to see all your pictures and to hear all the stories…especially of that special someone. Secondly, I also look forward to hearing about your NYE party 2011…last years pictures and stories were interesting to say the least. Hopefully someone is sober enough to video random moments during that evening as well.

@Roadlesstaken - LMAO, yeah, I am not so sure either if 50+ showed up at my apartment I am afraid that my landlady along with the local cops being called…Hopefully that does not happen to you, but I cannot wait to hear about the party, it always appears to be like a good time. @Roadlesstaken - Waikiki is for tourists. It’s fun there, but be sure to explore other areas of the island. And if you want to buy souvenirs, go to the swap meet at Aloha Stadium (if they still do it). When we lived there, we could find a lot of the same stuff sold in the expensive shops in Waikiki for way less $$ at the swap meet. For the fun tourist activities, a luau, the Polynesian Cultural Center, the submarine tour of the reef, the USS Arizona memorial, a catamaran dinner cruise, snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, a drive over the Pali with a stop at the top to imagine Kamehameha’s army pushing the opposing army off the mountain, Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum… Really, after five years we still hadn’t seen everything there was to see. We spent too much time hanging out at the beach.

@saintvi - Excellent, thanks! Yeah, I have plans to explore the whole island while I’m there. Any food places you recommend that you can only really get in that area?
@Roadlesstaken - There was a local place that did box lunches that were really good, but after more than 20 years I can’t remember the name. We could never afford the really nice places, just an occasional lunch at Elephant and Castle and dinner at Monterey Bay Canners (I always got the mahimahi), neither of which were exclusive to the islands.

Too bad I’m visiting relatives on New Years or I would have asked if I could make the trip down to VA and we could have finally had a meetup. Shame how my schedule always seems to be incongruent with anything Xanga-related. But once I’m employed and exceeding rich and famous I’ll be able to go wherever I want in my private jet and/or Ferrari.

I hope you have a great time in Honolulu! Hubby and I are going back for Christmas, as well. We will be there from Christmas Eve to New Year’s! It’s a long flight from Melbourne but that’s ok. It’s worth it to see family over the holidays! I’m also looking forward to stuffing my face with the food I miss – musubi from Mana Bu’s, shave ice from Waiola, kiave chicken at North Shore. Yum! Too bad the weather has been cold in Honolulu for the past few days, though. I hope it’s not TOO cold while you’re there! Hey, maybe I’ll even see you just randomly on the street hahaha. Enjoy!

lol good luck- it’s been cloudy, raining, and cold by hawaii’s standards as of late. at least there’s the big waves at pipeline!
@make7upyours2514 - Would low 80s be cold for you? That’s perrrfect for me! It’s currently around 30 degrees here, so I’m not complaining.
@Roadlesstaken - I really wish we could! But all our time is already booked up with family stuff from the day we arrive until Tuesday the 27th!
Oh oh oh, if you’ve got time, try to make your way to Boots & Kimo’s in Kailua for their banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce! I’m not a fan of macadamia nuts but I always make an exception for Boots & Kimo! Definitely not something you want to miss. 
Make sure you bring a jacket or something. I heard it’s been a bit chilly lately. Not as cold as NY, for sure, but still not as warm as you probably think it is!

@Roadlesstaken - Yes, Boots & Kimo’s is usually pretty crowded. When we don’t want to wait a couple of hours for a table, we just order our stuff to go and bring it to the Foodland down the street. They have a little eating area inside at the front. We usually buy a drink from Coffee Bean and chow down there. Hehehe! I think Honolulu has been low to mid 70′s lately – and windy/rainy. Brr!

I also did Diamond Head hike. It is a nice easy hike. The Dole place is kind of boring so if you don’t have much time don’t go there.
