I’m Clearly a Serious Graduate Student
Ahoy-hoy! So it’s the beginning of December and you know what that means; crunch time for us students! I will get back to my more regularly scheduled blogging after Dec 15th. Once I complete a couple more papers and a test, I will only have to get through one last semester before I acquire my masters degree.
You know, when I’m done I think I will leave a legacy for future students of the program. My professors will tell them about how I was the most serious, mature, businesslike, focused, sophisticated graduate student that they have ever encountered, especially my one professor below:
For most of this semester I’ve been animating him onto our classroom’s whiteboard before he came in. It started off out of boredom. I was early, so I decided to first draw a small version of him off to the side where he might not have immediately noticed:
I don’t think he knew that was him at first. The class (well, mostly I) told him that it was there before class and it was just a strange coincidence that cartoon looked a lot like him. He seemed to have bought that and went on teaching.
I took it up a notch the following class, where I drew him again but this time a bit larger and much closer to where he was standing:
Once again, I told him it was there before we got in and that it was probably someone drawing Albert Einstein (somebody he bears quite the resemblance to). He didn’t really dwell on it, although I can tell he was becoming suspicious.
The next class, I figured the hell with being subtle:
That’s him driving me to Abilene, TX in reference to the Abilene Paradox (something he LOVES to talk about). By this point he definitely figured it out it was me. Fortunately for me, he really enjoyed it! He even requested that I send him a picture of it, which I obliged.
I was going to stop with the drawings at this point, but by now my colleagues were expecting something on the board each class so I couldn’t disappoint them! I continued to find ways to make my drawings academically related so my professor would be okay with them.
I did these two drawings based on images in our textbook (ignore the strange greenish blots):
A few weeks ago the class topic was power, hence this reference:
Here’s my most recent drawing from last week’s class. Take a guess what the topic was:
This Wednesday will be the final class I’ll have with him and I could use some suggestions for my concluding drawing. What should it be? FYI, the topic for this week is “The Future” and the class is called Group Decision Making. Any creative ideas?
Oh yeah, I’m such the model student of higher education!
***UPDATED DEC 8TH***
By popular demand, this was the last drawing I did of my professor:

Comments (148)
Hahahahah! You’re hilarious. I love the drawings. And maybe for the Future, make him a psychic looking into a glass ball or something? That’s the only thing I could think of off the top of my head, but you will probably think of something better.
You’re an absolute riot. I wish you were in my classes, I could totally use the entertainment. =]
Flux Capacitor for “The Future”!
Just a suggestion.
Man, I wish my old profs were that awesome. Most of them really didn’t have a sense of humour. It would have made class way more entertaining.
LOLLLL that’s so funny. xD I like yo’ drawinz.
Maybe have you guys wearing those scott/cyclops shades from x-men and little robot suits surrounding him.
LOL! That’s hilarious.
You should come in extra early and make a full board picture for the last class
I wish I could laugh in my classes, but being a freshman, I get all the lovely students who purposely take up class by asking questions that are clearly in the reading.
lol. ‘m thinking along the lines of back to the future
Wow, your teacher is a riot and so are you. I wish more teachers/profs were like that. And I loved how he played along with it too. All I can think about is back to the future. Maybe draw him as Doc or something? And you as Marty? I love the drawings a lot!
lol i’m glad he’s cool that the pictures stay up there :3 he’s a cool teacher. I SAY! Draw him getting out of a DeLorean DMC-12 from back to the future. Since he kinda looks like the mad scientist too XD
lol. i would love to have you as my classmate!
@verified_but_still_denied - @Hinase - i’m glad we’re all on the same page here lol
@robbiebulilan - Yup. That’s how awesome Back to The Future is =) It brings people together lol
I think you need a “Back to the Future” reference for sure.
So awesome. I might of enjoyed going to class if there was someone like you in it. lol.
This post doesn’t answer your question, but you have to tell me: what are you getting your masters in?? I covered a lot of the same topics in my undergrad where I studied Comm./Human Relations…. conflict resolution, groupthink, power, etc.
That is one awesome professor to play along with that!
Wow.
And all I do is write stupid things on the board during club meetings.
I was just content to sticking with rickrolling my class by having someone text me and set off the alert, but YOU sir, are SNEAKY.
Gosh, I love your professor’s mustache you perfectly copied in your drawing. I like to sit in and join your class. It looks fun in there!
You rock!! And that professor seems pretty cool too!
the future? dress him up like the doc in back to the future…draw the car and everything…put him on a hover-skateboard
hahahaha. I thought “BACK TO THE FUTURE,” too.
Thanks for further fueling my procrastination. Reading this post was well worth it.
When I was in high school, my homeroom teacher would write the topics and activities he was going to cover in each of his classes that day on the board. Usually, it was a list of three or four things per class in bullet form. After a while, I started writing “bother Mr. X” in the lists, and he would go about in his later classes, teaching like normal until one of the students in the class would go “why are we bothering you?”
Btw, his real name wasn’t Mr. X. I just called him that for the purpose of this comment.
hahaa, that’s some pretty serious stuff. you made him so asian, lol. with the peace sign and the slitty eyes. hahaa! you definitely need a “back to the future” reference.
Haha that’s hilarious! He’s got a pretty good sense of humor if he never even got mad or anything!
lol
Omg, that’s so awesome!!! Maybe you should draw him flying in a spaceship (you with him, of course) into some undiscovered galaxy. =)
he honestly looks like the white version of my black professor from my community college years.
@verified_but_still_denied - Ohh, that’s what I was thinking, lol. But I just noticed several others did, too.
Alex, you make me chuckle. I didn’t know you were such a great artist. Hiding secrets, I see.
puahaha love it and kudos to getting close to your prof
O man Captain Professor Planet made me laugh!!
And the suggestion for him to be Doc from Back to the Future is perfect! If you want a challenge, there’s always Bill&Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but not everybody might get that one.
If all else fails, it never hurts to turn it into a Star Wars/Trek-related picture.
@xx0behindthesmile - Oh I’ll keep that in mind! So far though I’m leaning towards the Back to the Future reference.
@WordsandThoughts - That class is probably the most entertaining class I’ve had, mostly do to the fun the students in there have!
@skylar_rose - @verified_but_still_denied - @Hinase - @robbiebulilan - @npr32486 - @BranmacFeabhail - @LADYxHEARTS -
Back to the Future is currently my top choice!
@HelloKitty0809 - lol. it’s what i thought of when i saw the lil eistein. xD i like ur pic btw :3
@glitteronthefloor92 - Maybe I will for my last class. The other classmates are planning a fiesta that day. No lie!
@snapeful - But but how does that relate to the future??
@morningmoka - @ALovingAdversary - My classmates have said I’m not too shabby to have around =D
@AmyC0987 - My major is similar to that. I’m in the industrial/organizational psychology program.
@Sunrise_Hope_Joy - @CareyGLY - He has a good sense of humor. Sometimes perverted O_o
@Roadlesstaken - is this the one that referenced to his wife when he heard “A Loving Adversary?”
@emily_shannon - Oh I definitely used to do that too haha
@Coffee_Kaioken - I’m a ninja.
@Chemalexandru - I will miss my classmates. We all have the same sense of humor!
@Rob_of_the_Sky - Haha that’s awesome! Did he ever find out it was you?
@x3style - I didn’t realize how Asian I made him until you just mentioned it. Oh well, he looks better that way!
@MiaJoyTheWriter - He does seem to roll with the jokes quite well! Thank goodness.
ahahahha i wish i had such a chill prof!
@oOo_itsJuJu - Ah another possible idea! thanks
@sonychak - so you’re saying your old professor looked like a black Einstein?
@HelloKitty0809 - Haha I wouldn’t go as far as say that’s great artistry there. Just little drawings I doodle.
@julieae - He won’t be forgetting about me anytime soon!
@drung888 - Oooo perhaps that the Star Trek/Star Wars idea!
@verified_but_still_denied - hey now, no flirting on my entries!! j/k
@ALovingAdversary - Haha no, it was another professor whom I’m not as cool with.
@suuperstar - You know, sometimes I think he’s a bit too chill. The classes don’t feel all too structured at times =/
@Roadlesstaken - ah. haha. Prof.s with a sense of humor…quite a rare sight usually.
i cant help it man its in mah blood
My husband likes to draw cartoons on whiteboards, too. The difference is, he’s the instructor.
I vote for the clock tower scene from back to the Future.
@Roadlesstaken - Oh he did. I was a bit of a prankster in high school.
It would be so fun to be in your class.
how Eisensteiny!
I wish I had an Albert Einstein-like professor!
Great job on the drawings
hahahaha captain planet! omg Alex, why are you so awesomely funny? Once again made my day.
Btw, speaking of the environment (captain planet) there is this weird film that I like. It’s Korean but it has some environmentalist stuff in it. Its call Iodo directed by Kim Ki-young. Might be hard to find (it came out in 1977) but its pretty great :]
Good luck with your exam and papers!
@saintvi - Ah nice! I’m sure his students like that.
@lilxwunxnxluv - I really should record the class to show people what it’s really like. It’s sooo not how I imagine a grad class would be.
@a_drunken_cellist - thanks! He is my second Einstein-looking teacher I’ve had.
@indiechaos - Iodo eh? What is it mainly about?
@Roadlesstaken - robots ARE the future!
lmao great post
lols nice drawings. whats your major anyways?
the back to the future idea isn’t so bad! hahaha… definitely reference something to the future though. You could draw like a guy teleporting from 2060 talking about making decisions, that would be interesting to see.
@H0Eass - My major is industrial/organizational psychology, although sometimes my classmates think I should be in a more creative field with the drawings/videos I’ve done for my classes haha.
Ha! I love this, and I’m glad your prof did, too! You are something else, A.!

Maybe you could do a drawing about how your future will be better because of him…Like we (the class) decided as a group that our futures will be brighter because you were our teacher. As a thank you to him.
???
you are a great artist!
sounds like my life and i’m still in undergrad
I didn’t know you were an artist too!!
Good luck on your exams/ papers. It’s always the best feeling when crunch time … ends.
what are you going to grad school for?
LOL your pics are so cute. I like the captain planet one! hehehe
LOL! nice =D
as for a drawing…i’m thinking of one that incorporates the DeLorean from back to the future..
OMG so cute! So entertaining to be in your class. Hmmm. Maybe a group of E.Ts for the upcoming class?
Lol! That’s so nice. As for ideas, the only thing that comes to my mind is you (or him) playing the devil’s advocate (according to this source under Dialetical inquiry) but I don’t know about the future part of it.
Your proffesor is the coolest guy.
All of mine were monsters.
hahaha you’re actually evil !! I have a classmate who’s I think he’s pretty much like you. But the different is, he always draws the prof he hates. lol
excited, excited, excited. You’re getting your Masters ^_^ Congrats sir ( I know, a little early for that). I might want to get my Masters and maybe even a Ph.D. I’m only going to school to be an English Teacher so I know it’s not really needed but I’m just an over-achiever. But I’m still not sure. I got about a year to think about it.
I remember seeing these drawing on the facebook feed. I think they’re so cute ^_^ What class is that for? The stuff you’re learning about looks really interesting ^_^
sometimes i find myself wishing this were facebook so i could press the “like” button. this is one of those times. i needed funny people like you in my classes!
@adamswomanlost - As much as the class likes him as a person, as a teacher the class isn’t as fond of the way he teaches haha…so not sure if that would work so well.
@HeartLUST - @mizz_chan - Oh definitely not! They’re just amateur doodles. Thanks though!
@nycstar19 - Ah, you do the same to your professors?
@sugar_mama - industrial/organizational psychology!
@Got_Claws - That’s my favorite so far
Haha the drawings are so cute! And good stuff to making them academically related!
@ThePrince - I was doing some sketches and I’ll probably do something related to Back to the Future, but maybe without the car. I’m not as good as drawing cars as people haha
@tollyyjoy - Hmmm, are E.T.s a good representation of the future?
@nov_way - Ah, I’ll keep that in mind if I don’t do the back to the future idea!
@ScotlandHoliday - Yeah, he’s one of the better professors in term of likability. The other professor I have this semester is a bit more elitist and racists haha
@fabolousclown - I draw professors I don’t like too, but I don’t write it on the board =P
@RaquelHiggins005 - Yep, I always post my drawings on FB and on our I/O psych group page so my classmates and I have some stuff to talk about during class haha. Like I said above, the class is Group Decision Making
@fashionpassion - Funny enough, there actually is a Like button on the top right corner of this entry!
@ice_babe_4eva - Thanks, it takes some creative thinking but I think they’re worth doing!
I like your class, it seems to be so fun, unlike my class urgh.
HAHAHAHA AAHHHH OHHHH MY GOSH and I thought humor had died sometime ago. You brought it back again! I should seriously try doing that for our math teacher, too
Hehehe Thats really cool, being light hearted and joking around always makes thing better, who wants to be serious all the time
It’s definately got to be Back to the Future your porfessor even looks the part.
I must say you have talent! haha
Nice drawings… you have a flair for this.
Maybe the final drawing will be a picture of the class huddled around a time machine or crystal ball?
haha that is so awesome!
@stray_sparrow - The course itself isn’t as fun, but we improvise to keep it entertaining!
@christykim - Humor makes the world go by! Kinda.
@BFB1131 - I did a quick sketch of him as Doc Brown last night. It’s good to go!
@oxyGENE_08 - For torturing my poor professor? haha
@ElusiveWords - That would be fun to do, although that’s a lot of people I’d have to draw
This was great….as a student I’m always first to class and always tempted to draw on the board myself but never do….such a chicken I am Lol
Good stuff. Now you just need to learn how to draw. ;D
That’s AMAZING! There’s a professor that I would LOVE to do that to, the class is particularly huge so he wouldn’t ever suspect it was me either. teehee
I have to ask though, what are you pursuing your Masters’ in? Good luck on your exams and your last semester!
You’re quite the artist! lol You’d be a fun classmate for sure..haha Hmm..maybe you could draw a “Back to the Future” reference?? =P And a master’s degree, eh? Quite impressive! =)
@FrostBit - Go for it next time! Just make sure your professor won’t be upset by it haha
@fLiPgUy31O - I know I know, my drawing skills do not live up to your penis drawing abilities
@syedanoor - Well why not? Go for it. Oh, I’m pursuing a masters in industrial/organizational psychology
@Babieboo_Annie - Back to the Future will most likely be the reference I’ll make =D
@Roadlesstaken - I’ll send you a penis drawing right now.
As a fellow partner in crime in the classroom, I will confirm all the comments on having you in the class being a blast. I’d offer up a suggestion as to what to do in the final one tomorrow, but I’m sure you’ll come up with something awesome. You could incorporate the fiesta theme into it though since we are having one tomorrow. That might also be clever. =)
LLOOL ! WHYY can’t I have someone like you in my class?!
Yea along with others I thought of back to the future, maybe you could draw the deloreon good luck!
@bengozen - I was thinking about putting version of all of us up on the board as well, but that might take too long haha. Maybe you can help out.
@XoPinkHeart - Because there’s only one of me to go around! =P
@Drugsy - I just attempted drawing it and while it’s okay I think I’ll have to hold on it haha. Fear not though, there will be a Back to the Future reference!
Yay. Well, something else, I thought about the ‘back to the future idea’ as well and pictured your professor meeting Einstein. so much for the future part, but still. xD
CAKE! CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! …. err… I just finished beating Portal again. This cake is so delicious and moist. XP
@theacematt2 - I believe you commented on the wrong blog Matt haha.
@Roadlesstaken - Can’t wait to see the “final” drawing! lol =)
@Roadlesstaken - You don’t want to draw cake? T_T; it’s totally work. Okay, okay. I concede… A companion cube will work just fine! XP
@Roadlesstaken - Be sure to show us what you do draw! I’m so curious to see it!
When I was teaching I loved the smart, but fun kids like you in my class! Smart-alex kids! Ha!
@Roadlesstaken - omg, record it! I would love to see what that class was like–if your professor was chill enough with your drawings, then it must be an awesome-possum class :3
He also resembles Chef Boyardee
http://3.citynews-ilpiacenza.stgy.it/pictures/20100821/logo_chef-boyardee.jpeg
@RonnyV - You’re right! Ah, if only I had more class time I could do a version of him like that.
I’ve seen a couple of those on Facebook ^_^ And, I know it’s off-topic, but, hey, you’re in grad school, so… any advice on how to write a personal statement? I am FREAKING OUT ABOUT IT.
@randaness - Yup, FB peeps got a special sneak peak at this stuff! Man personal statement…been a while. What do they ask for in it?
I love it !!!!
Your serious make me sprout rainbows from my head (:
I like the POWER one. I love how the sign is like “No food or beverages allowed” but No is hidden with a large magnet
@Roadlesstaken - I wrote one last year, too, but it took like five minutes and probably sucked. Anyway, here’s all it says, “STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Please explain why you wish to do graduate work in
the field you have selected. Describe your ultimate academic and career
objectives. To the extent you are able, comment on subareas within your
general field of proposed study which you hope to explore in depth in
your graduate study and indicate any member(s) of the Washington
University faculty with whom you might want to pursue a research topic.” Whatever I come up with probably won’t be TERRIBLE, but I am… extremely nervous.
@Shavanna - Thank you! I was waiting for someone to notice that! I put that eraser up there on purpose.
@randaness - Oh okay I remember doing this now. I just wrote something straight forward, and perhaps I might have juiced up certain aspects of it to make it sound better haha.
@Roadlesstaken - Ninjas have to be good observers.
LOL Captain Planet. Awesome reference <3.
awww how cute
This is absolutely fantastic!! I loved it. What was the name of the class?! As I graduate student of English myself, I have to support fellow Masters as well, but great post!!
The captain planet impression was LE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
When I saw it, its ridiculous Theme song started palying in my head, complete with the rap “We’re the planeteers, you can be one too………..”
LOL. cutest drawings + best prof ever.
awesome pics.
@pika_whoosh - @Prim_Prim4488 - @caeliosophy - haha thanks
@Thumper49047 - The class is Group Decision Making, and it’s for my industrial/organizational psychology program
@mandyman27 - What can I say? He’s going to take pollution down to zero!
@eciila - thanks!
I would think drawing him as Doc from back to the future would be good.
bAHhahahahhahahhh!! they’re so funny!!! and man can you draw! he looks just like him! (well except for the round body and limbs..)
wow u must have an awesome professor who doesn’t mind! lol. and he does resemble albert…hmm…for “the future”, draw him, then an arrow pointing at a future him and it can be einstein or what you think he looked like younger, haha. so as he ages, he’s getting younger instead or become the next einstein.
good luck with papers and tests, i know you’ll do great!
@ItIsAllGravy - I think so too. Stay tuned for the Doc Brown version of my professor!
@yan_ni - He described his body as being like a teddy bear haha. My friend said he kinda looks like a Wii character
@wyrdkismet - it looks like I’m gonna turn him into the doctor from Back to the Future haha. I’ll post it up later when I do it.
you’re such an artist!
hahaha. man, thats so awesome
Alex, this was amazing. Lol. I wish I was in a class with you. Some kind of entertainment would be nice.
Conflict resolution: put your hands on both people’s chests while they’re going at each other.
I think he would have been disappointed if you had stopped. Good luck with these last few weeks!
HAHAHAHA. LOVE that last photo!!!!!!!
@ordinary_gir1 - Eh, I can duplicate something well if I have an image to base it on haha
@vicdaily - I’m bringing Asian drinks for my class tonight so I can mess with my professor who’s always commenting on my drinks.
@aznspartan94 - Corecto!
@LADYLILYTHAO - one more week! Woo!
@shatterFocus - Now, are you old enough to remember this movie?? =P
so awesome!
you must’ve made the class that much more fun for everyone. i would’ve wanted to go to class more just to see what you drew for the day
(but i guess graduate students have many more reasons to go to classes hehe)
@jing116 - We had a food fiesta last night haha. Yeah, I love my classmates. We know how to have a good time out of a long class.
@Roadlesstaken - shuttupppppp
Wow, seriously wasted potential. You need to become a comic artist.
@christao408 - Haha if I did I would not be a successful one.
haha such an artist
. your professor seems so cute XD.
@Roadlesstaken - It’s mainly about this guy trying to solve the mystery of this man that disappeared from the island of Iodo which happens to be an island ran by women. There is some explict sexual scenes, but thats the unedited version which you might not be able to find (obscurity of old films from South Korea) anywho if you like hitchcock at all you’ll like it. Also, the environmentalist theme that I was talking about has to do with the polution that hits the island as a result of the industry that the men are trying to bring to the island.
@kpxls1 - He’s definitely not a boring guy to be around!
utterly brilliant! That’d be great if it happened in every class, makes everyone interested in coming to lectures and it’s even relevant to the course content. Schools should immediatelyimplement that everywhere
@AzureRecollections - I like the way you think! AND people that do it should get extra credit!
Hehehe…you never cease to amuse me. Love the drawings!
@mindfulreflections - Thank you much!
neat!!! i love your idea and drawings.
Love it! It’s hilarious, and the fact he wasn’t even angry, makes it that much better! Your prof seems like a pretty cool guy!
He looks strict to me! Glad he has a sense of humor.
And you have amazing artistic skills.
@jumpthenfly - I thought he would be meaner in the beginning, but he’s very laid back as I’ve gotten to know him.
@AlfieNgoSYOU - Thanks!
@throughsamseyes - Yes, I’m glad to have known him over these past couple of years. Hopefully he can help me network!
Like your cute drawings. Your prof does bear some resemblance with Albert Einstein!
@icapillas - I know right? Funny enough, he’s the second professor I’ve had in my life that looks like Albert Einstein.
I would like to have him as a professor. He looks so friendly.
Or maybe that’s your drawings.
@vanedave - If he wasn’t friendly, I would not have drawn him!
Amusing mocking turns into deliberate ass-kissing… *shakes head* I applaud you. (:
Also, Albert E and I are bffs, and Albert insists that he looks nothing like your professor.
@Invisible_Crazed_Chica - That’s how I do! You don’t see even a tiny resemblance?
@Roadlesstaken - Oh, I suppose.. But only if you squint and imagine a lab coat painted onto his body. He does have a couple of
very
nice sweaters, though…
hahahahahahaha! i do this too with my teacher! i love it >:D he looks a bit like Einstein XD
@itsayanav - Ooo you should post up some of your artwork!
i will!!!!
but not of my teacher i still have to do the ones i promised a while back. I need to draw xangans. i barely came back yesterday to xanga
Glad I came by to read your latest post, your drawings are pure awesomeness.
@Shades_of_Athena - Thank you much!
The whole lot you cry is correct that’s the thing I deliberate
