  • Meet Ups, Meet Ups, Meet Ups!

I know some people have joked about how I’ve been like an ambassador or something these past couple of years since I keep meeting up with so many people from here.  When people ask me how many Xangans I’ve met up with I have a hard time coming up with a specific answer.  I stopped trying to keep track after around 50, but I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere between 80-100, maybe more.

Excuse my yellowness. I know I’m Asian but I’m not normally THAT yellow haha

This past week, I met up with this Xangan above that turned out to be…quite delightful.  Perhaps I’ll write more about it some other time.  Anyway, she kind of got me thinking again about how many people I have met from this site thus far.  You know what that means?

    Photo splurge time!

I went back and try to find all the pictures I’ve taken with those I’m met here.  I’m missing probably 5-10 people, but I think I got the good gist of them.  I’m not going to write down all the usernames, but if you’re curious you can ask me who’s who.

The first couple of Xangans I’ve met happened way back in the day (that is, in 2004):

Hmm, I must have really thought crossing my arms made me looked cool back then.

These guys actually found me by searching for freshmen entering my undergraduate college.  The guy on the left and I eventually became co-vice presidents of the Chinese Student Association while the guy on the right initially helped me start the tennis club.

It would be many years later before I met my next Xangan.  This probably had to do with the fact that before late 2008, I more or less only communicated with people I knew IRL on here.  Obviously, that changed and I found myself meeting up with people in CA, VA, DC, MD, and NY.

Since California was where I first started meeting people and where I’ve been back to the most times (I think 5 times this past 2 years?) I’ll begin with pictures from the Sunshine State, mainly taken in San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and the Bay Area:

Next up is New York!  This is where I met up with the most people at one time a couple months ago.  Here’s some shot from that meet up as well as previous ones:

Last photo stop: the DMV (DC/MD/VA) region!  I’ve been fortunate enough to have some people come to me to meet up instead of the other way around.  Here are some shots from those occasions, plus a few from the DC meets:

I’m not going to lie and say I keep in touch with everyone I’ve met as much as I should, but I’ve definitely made a lot of wonderful friends that I still talk and confide with to this day.  For that, as well as the experiences and lessons learned I gained from all of this, I highly recommend doing a meet up if you have the opportunity!  Can’t promise every meet up will be the most pleasant experience, but be smart about it and you should find it worthwhile.

If you want to read more about my past travels you can just go to my main page and click on any of the links under the “My Travels” section (located on the left column).  Now, where to go next?  Texas and Canada are on my radar!
