Meet Ups, Meet Ups, Meet Ups!
I know some people have joked about how I’ve been like an ambassador or something these past couple of years since I keep meeting up with so many people from here. When people ask me how many Xangans I’ve met up with I have a hard time coming up with a specific answer. I stopped trying to keep track after around 50, but I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere between 80-100, maybe more.This past week, I met up with this Xangan above that turned out to be…quite delightful. Perhaps I’ll write more about it some other time. Anyway, she kind of got me thinking again about how many people I have met from this site thus far. You know what that means?
Photo splurge time!I went back and try to find all the pictures I’ve taken with those I’m met here. I’m missing probably 5-10 people, but I think I got the good gist of them. I’m not going to write down all the usernames, but if you’re curious you can ask me who’s who.
The first couple of Xangans I’ve met happened way back in the day (that is, in 2004):
Hmm, I must have really thought crossing my arms made me looked cool back then.These guys actually found me by searching for freshmen entering my undergraduate college. The guy on the left and I eventually became co-vice presidents of the Chinese Student Association while the guy on the right initially helped me start the tennis club.
It would be many years later before I met my next Xangan. This probably had to do with the fact that before late 2008, I more or less only communicated with people I knew IRL on here. Obviously, that changed and I found myself meeting up with people in CA, VA, DC, MD, and NY.
Since California was where I first started meeting people and where I’ve been back to the most times (I think 5 times this past 2 years?) I’ll begin with pictures from the Sunshine State, mainly taken in San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and the Bay Area:
(You can click on the pictures to enlarge them in the new nifty photo lightbox!)Next up is New York! This is where I met up with the most people at one time a couple months ago. Here’s some shot from that meet up as well as previous ones:
Last photo stop: the DMV (DC/MD/VA) region! I’ve been fortunate enough to have some people come to me to meet up instead of the other way around. Here are some shots from those occasions, plus a few from the DC meets:
I’m not going to lie and say I keep in touch with everyone I’ve met as much as I should, but I’ve definitely made a lot of wonderful friends that I still talk and confide with to this day. For that, as well as the experiences and lessons learned I gained from all of this, I highly recommend doing a meet up if you have the opportunity! Can’t promise every meet up will be the most pleasant experience, but be smart about it and you should find it worthwhile.
If you want to read more about my past travels you can just go to my main page and click on any of the links under the “My Travels” section (located on the left column). Now, where to go next? Texas and Canada are on my radar!

BRITTANY!
Haven’t you met Dan?
nice blog! agreed that one comes across pretty fantastic people at these meets. Hope all is well!
Meetups are fun. We had a mini meet at my house on Saturday for Passionflwr’s BD. Xangans are great people.
Woot Texas! I’ve only met one person from Xanga. He’s pretty rad and now one of my real life friends.
I had a mini meet-up with Bodhiseeker last weekend in NYC
I really would love for a Cleveland meet-up sometime in the next 8 or so months, so that I’m finally closer to my own turf!
:-$ …. quality > quantity?
I mean uh… glad you got to see so many, lol….. we’ll see who’s willing ot meet up west of OH in… a year-ish from now.
canada is the next place to be.
@theacematt2 - I love your pic–one of my all-time fave characters… that is all
Yes, Alex, you are quite the meet-up-man! I know you enjoy it, and that’s awesome
Dang that’s awesome you’re pretty popular Alex boyyy lol but I never met ppl from Xanga, I’m kind of scared to though lol ><but yeah maybe one day hahah
@OhItWontBeForever - I have not, but if I visit TX I would like to meet up with him.
@Linh_L - I suppose you’re pretty fantastic =)
@tsh44 - Sweet! Gonna go over and check out your post now
@ALovingAdversary - What part of TX you’re from?
@puella_sapiens216 - Sure seems like Bodhiseeker and you have become quite close friends. Maybe more? Hmm?
@theacematt2 - Saying people I meet aren’t quality?! haha
@sonychak - Question is which part? It’s SO HUGE! twss. Btw, talked to Flip about possible future trips this year. We should talk about it sometime too!
@webofsimplicity - It’s a fun hobby for sure =)
@hollywoodfever91 - Hey, how about next time you’re in VA let me know? I’ll meet you at Eden Center, your turf haha.
i just received your friend request and tried to find a link to send you this message, but im guessing its absence indicates you prefer none.
anyway, i dont like declining requests without reason, so here is the message i sent out to my subscribers last week:
this is a message to everyone who has been so kind with commenting,
friending, and subscribing to my blog during the last few days.
thank you very much for the warm welcome.
unfortunately, certain individuals have tainted my opinion of the
xanga community with the words they choose to represent themselves.
id like to think i have a reasonable tolerance level, but some messages directed at me have certainly crossed the line.
i dont want to disable comments or make my blog private, so for my
initial sanity and peace of mind, i have decided to delete the friends i
have now, and will not be accepting future friend requests.
apologies to all who have been so encouraging.
i hope you understand.
thank you all.
p kim
@priscaykim - Ah gotcha. No worries. Oh I have messages open! It should be in a drop down menu on top or on my profile page.
@Roadlesstaken - TORONTO/MONTREAL = best places to start
@Roadlesstaken - i must have missed it. kudos to me and my seeing skils, right? eh. regardless, thanks for understanding. and visiting.
have a happy sunday. cheers
@Roadlesstaken - I used to live around East Texas (Tyler, Kilgore, Longview) but now I live 30 minutes outside of Austin.
Oh the many faces of xanga
and I agree with inspirationz – come visit us up North
DD
ha. I’m kind of retired from meet-up business myself.
Wow. Looks like quite an adventure! I definitely would love to have meet-ups with fellow Xangans. It’s great meeting new people and making more friends. =) Too bad it doesn’t seem there’s many people who still blogs on here from the Philly area. Lol
@sonychak - WOLVERINES!!!
sweet jesus! you have met so many people from here. D:
@Roadlesstaken - Bahahaha… I wish! But no, we’re just good friends.
@Roadlesstaken - Heck yeah I’m down or maybe Tyson Corner since I wanna shop
haha
Oh yeah we totally know what went on when Aaron and Jenny visited you
@inspirasionz - @kaiori - I’m leaning towards Toronto or Vancouver. Hmmm, which to choose?
@ALovingAdversary - Cool, I’ll let you know if I’m ever there. My friend and I talked about flying into Austin and then doing a drive to Houston.
@GreekPhysique - I don’t think I’m retired just yet, but I do feel like retiring from hosting meet ups after the NY one. How am I gonna top that?? haha
@Babieboo_Annie - Actually, I know a few people from that area on here. Would you ever find yourself near MD/DC/VA? That’s where I’m at.
Come eat Asian food in Vancouver!
@Roadlesstaken - sweet! sounds good. Be sure to check out the awesomeness of Austin before you head over though.
@JessxMaxine - I know! I didn’t plan to do that initially haha
@hollywoodfever91 - Excellent! Let me know next time you’re down then.
@whotakethmycoke - What, we just had a very low key affair =)
@kaiori - Is Vancouver known for that? Oh, and what’s special in Toronto?
@ALovingAdversary - I don’t really know too much about what’s in Austin. Can you fill me in?
TO = smog and concrete jungle. Wow i’m not biased
I love how everyone is requesting you in the comments. You should become an RLT Xangalebrity show and tour and charge ppl to take pics with you $_$
@Roadlesstaken - Will do
@Roadlesstaken - Austin is our Art, Electronic, and Music capital (as well as the obvious state capital) You hit up South Congress you can always find music, food, a good drink, conversation, a strange sight, and just in general good time. There are parks all over, because Austin decided to build around nature instead bulldozing. There’s also a lot of weirdness here. Hence, “Keep Austin Weird”…it’s just a definite experience you’d want to say you’ve had. We have a month dedicated to music called South by Southwest (SXSW). You can walk down 6th and South Congress from bar to bar and even on the streets and hear all different kinds of genres. This weekend we have Austin City Limits concert going on. Which is a local show that every band in our state dreams of being on (even some bands from out of state want to make it on). If you love music and art this is definitely a good stop.
I agree with Sonlay. You should go to Canada next. haha
So much travel man! I half expect to hear from you in a few years doing Xanga meetups abroad on every continent…even Antarctica. Those penguins get bored easily man
NY was the best, hands down. ADMIT IT!
@kaiori - Haha I doubt it will ever get that point. Would be awesome if Xanga sponsored me for trips, but I doubt they even have enough money to sponsor clothes or something for me haha
@ALovingAdversary - I do love music and art! Thank you, I will surely keep all that in mind.
@xchinkylaydee - What makes you say that? You fond of Canada too?
@remiblanc0 - If I had the money and time perhaps! Wanna sponsor me?
@CaKaLusa - Of course, I hosted it! =P
=] its been a wonderful experience for me as well
@Roadlesstaken - you can host the next one in VA!
Oh this was great!! Thank you for sharing.
@Roadlesstaken - Sure. I’ll start you off with a donation of…a muffin.
I remember hearing a funny story from high school that our alumni are allowed to donate to ANYTHING or any part of the school they want. My equivalent of an RA donated like 300 dollars to the school’s space and astronomy foundation so that they could build a space shuttle and go to space. For a few years, the money went untouched and the school couldn’t actually use it haha
Toronto should be your next stop. You know you wannnntt to, just throwing in a little nudge there. On another note, man, try adjusting the white balance in the picture next time. That’s a little too yellow, even for an asian fellow! If you need help or pointers, just give me a shout. Hope to see you sometime, you let Lena beat you to me
@rxglasshalffull - It better have been!
@CaKaLusa - I’m always hosting mini VA meet ups! Let me know if you’re ever in town.
@nov_way - thanks for checking it out =)
@remiblanc0 - …so they could build a space shuttle?? What??
@AzureRecollections - I blame the waitress for the distorted color haha
looks like a ton of fun! i want to have a meetup but i can’t travel too far and no one lives around me!! its so frustrating! so if you know anyone in south carolina or near the south carolina/georgia border let me know! hah. id love to meet up with some xangans
Well, shucks. I want a meet up in Indiana! Congrats on all of your traveling!
haha that looks like a lot of fun
ohh… by the way you look SUPER cool with your arms cross
You should come to Georgia sometime.
Looking through these pics, I think I REALLY envy your people skills! I don’t think I could meet so many people (at one time) without freezing up and becoming even more socially awkward than I already am…so yeah, I can totally see you being a ‘Xanga Ambassador’ of sorts.
And RYC: Despite my nitpicking, I’m loving Undercovers, too–especially Boris Kodjoe–so I’m praying it doesn’t end up getting cancelled!! ><
Just looking at these pictures makes me wish I lived near a bigger city so I can go to these meet ups
@beebizzle - @Rob_of_the_Sky - Hey, apparently you two are close together! I’ll let you know Rob if I ever find myself down there.
@Invisible_Crazed_Chica - I’m sure there are some Xangans from there!
@Mizlilaznduckie - I sense sarcasm XP
@ElusiveSoul - Yeah I dig it. It reminds me of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a movie I really enjoyed. Gonna go watch the second episode now on Hulu!
@NoHeroesForTomorrow - Well if they can’t come to you, go to them! Why do you think I’ve been in CA so often?
@Roadlesstaken - i think rob is on the other side of georgia. i’m not sure though.
@Roadlesstaken - I actually have a friend who lives in MD, but I haven’t had the chance to go visit yet..
@Roadlesstaken - hahai dont know what youre talking about ;D
@beebizzle - @Roadlesstaken - I’m closer to Alabama than SC. I’m close to Atlanta.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - my brother lives around atlanta. in like…dahlonega or something? i’m not sure if i spelled that right.
This is fantastic! Happy for you. Geezus you are adorable (welcome to cougar country!)… I have met maybe a half dozen Xangans thus far, but I could be fettered by my locale. Canada’s cities are far more widespread. I have met a few American Xangans and a few Canadian.
Fun to see a mention of Tyler, TX on here… I have one sibling living there.
ooh texas! but canada isn’t bad either. i got fams there!
hahaa if i don’t read the contents and just look at the photos, i would think that you went on a dating spree!
You do look pretty yellow even for an Asian.
That’s a lot of Xangans!
Nice…great to see how many friends you’ve made through out the years thanks to this site.
Come to Canada!!!
Haha, it’s like you’re a band on tour or something. Everyone wants to see you!
@karos - Cougar Country sounds intriguing. How nice of a place is it?
@pasaway4eva - I have family in both =)
@morningmoka - I guess it does kinda looks like that huh? What can I say, there’s a lot of females on this site!
@TheTheologiansCafe - I know I know. Btw, I’m talking with some people and we’re seriously considering flying to TX sometime this year for a trip. I’ll let you know if we do.
@oxyGENE_08 - Quite a pleasant surprise that’s for sure!
@jumpthenfly - If only there was someway I could get reimbursed for traveling haha.
I don’t see my face in any of those pictures yet, so your ambassador days are def. not over yet!!
whoa alex thats a whole lotta ppl O_O
Cool!!! Perhaps I will join the ranks some day hahah.
I’d like to meet Sam. XD Aww… I wanna go to Canada and meet some Xangans. =D I think I’ve met 6 people from Xanga. I still keep in touch with two of them. lol = =”
i cant meet up with anyone D:well not yet
almost
hahaha i like your slightly racist joke with the yellowim a bit yellow also XD i be simpsonizing >:D
@Southeast_Beauty - I know I know, I’m working on it! Wanna sponsor me?
@babychillax - Yes it is. You met a whole bunch of people for your first time meeting up with Xangans! I’m still very happy you ended up coming =)
@AmeliaHart - I know, you have no excuse since your cousin is one of my good friends!
@Got_Claws - just 6? I figured more since you keep saying you bump into Xangans haha
@itsayanav - What, it’s true! We do have a yellow tint =P
@Roadlesstaken - hahaha its ok i do to and a red tint its a combo hahahaha i sound like i have freaky skin XD but i dont
@Roadlesstaken - Toronto will have some of the BEST Korean food you could find outside Korea, just saying!
better let me know when you’re in Texas! (go to Austin!)
i kinda wanna go to another xanga meet if theres one coming up…well, maybe when school is not in session lol
I want to have a Xanga meet in Korea, but there are only two bloggers that I know of here (which might be a good thing since there is so much drama).
you are doing a huge service to the xanga community by organizing these meetups. seriously, people like you are what gives xanga the edge against other blogging sites.
keep taking that road dude, it seems to be working out for you.
Two questions come to mind when I read this:
1 – Can you name everybody you’ve met?
2 – Have you ever hooked up with any of them?
*I’m not sure if anybody else asked that in the comments, but I can’t possibly be the only one wondering.
@Roadlesstaken - yeah! i want to go there too. ):
hahaha, Alex, your commercial looks like a pharmaceutical add. Instead of symptoms it list emotions, but It’s shot in the same style. It’s great! Watch it with the volume down and imagine it’s Viagra commercial. It’s f-ing hilarious. I love it.
I smell love in the air for you
I’ve met Xangans here in Malaysia and in the US. Two flew here to see me, one I met here itself, and the rest I flew there to meet them. I’m so happy to get to meet up!
You are absolutely adorable.
Looks like you guys had so much fun!
Wow..your mileage must be a lot lol
Indonesia would be the next place
. Just hott here (: hahahhaha always more than 29 degrees celsius :O
@suuperstar - Ohh, is that a fact? Would you show me around if I came?
@BranmacFeabhail - Definitely.
Flip and I were talking about it the other day. Probably during winter
break, but maybe Thanksgiving time. You’ll be free then?
@rxglasshalffull - Yeah stupid school, gets in the way of our fun!
@mycontinuity - You could meet up with secade! He’s a cool guy that just moved there to teach Korean as well.
@ThePrince - If there’s another NY one would you come out for it?
@HardKnocks - As long as I have the funds and time I sure will!
@ItIsAllGravy - I
can name most everyone. There were obviously some people that I didn’t
get a chance to get really close to at the big meet ups, but I
definitely know everyone in the smaller, more intimate meetings. I do
know everyone from the NY meet up (yes, all of them!) since I was
hosting it haha.
Hmm what’s your definition of hook up?
@amateurprose - …oh man you’re right! I never noticed that before!
@spanishdaisy - perhaps one day our paths will cross?
@re_pose - =) thanks
@Sultry_Sally - Fun was most certainly had!
@Hinase - airplane mileage yes haha. I didn’t have to do much driving myself though.
@fabolousclown - I wouldn’t mind going to Asia, but man it’s a expensive coming from the US! If I had the money and extra time I would love to.
@Roadlesstaken - could probably get away in winter, probably be elsewhere for thanksgiving this year
Hurray for meetups!
@amateurprose - Call a specialist if you’ve been on Xanga longer than 4 hours.
Alex I’m in Toronto! So whence you decide between Toronto or Vancouver let me know! By which we will dance your science dance cause its schmexy.
@Roadlesstaken - naaaah… I much prefer extended-length meetings on multiple occasions with the same people, compared to many many mass meetings of once here, once there…. Quality people can be found many places, though, and if you can make the most of a quick get-together with some fellow bloggers–awesome
.
@ThePrince - Agreed.
@TheCheshireGrins - I wonder if we should plan another DMV meet soon?
@Sophannieta - Seems like a lot of people are in Toronto! Yes, time for some scientific schmexy sexy!
@theacematt2 - For sure, I prefer those too. Those are the ones I’m closest to.
Your travels are one thing I am extremely jealous of.
@Roadlesstaken - I think so. I’m going to be really busy until we move mid-November though
@Roadlesstaken - hmm..i’ll have to give it some thought.
Wow, looks like you’ve had quite a lot of adventures…
Cool.
Loved this, Alex
that is definitely a lot of meet ups… are you really triplets and you’re just not telling us? ya know, like Alex1, Alex2 and Alex3? =P …srsly, though, that’s awesome. =)
That’s a lot of Xangans. When I was looking through the pictures, I noticed I went, “Oh hey there’s me…there’s me again….and again….” that’s when I made a realization: Holy crap I met people I talk to online! Whoa… thanks for pointing that out to me lol. But in my mind, you will always be the Xanga representative lol. You have a great personality after all. I hope you continue these multiple encounters!
You’ve sure been around! You practically OWN xanga, ahaha. I guess I haven’t been around on xanga too much…don’t recognize most of the people!
How do you make time for all these meets?
@Roadlesstaken - Hahaha that’s what I hear from Koreans who came over to Toronto for uni! It’s close enough to the real thing, that’s for sure. And yeah why not?
Next time you’re in my area…we’ll have another one.
Photo splurge! I miss DC a lot these days
wow, u’ve met a lot of xangans..
St. Louis!
@vanedave - one of many I see. J/k
@TheCheshireGrins - okay, we’ll worry about it after then! You just take care of yourself first Mrs. Architect.
@BingleBot - Definitely wasn’t expecting to have them, but I’m sure glad I did =)
@Peridot21 - Nah, all the awesomeness is right here baby! Haha totally just playing
@RaquelHiggins005 - haha yes, you have certainly met a lot of folks now. You should try to find some Xangans in Arizona.
@sincerely_winnie - A lot of these people didn’t know each other until we all met up, so that was a great way to be introduced to the many awesome personalities around here. I time manage well I suppose =) . Will there be a day we’ll cross paths?
@edlives - For sure. I owe you one!
@secade - What about DC you miss that’s not in Korea?
@lilniteanngel - Truth. haha
@randaness - I’ll try! You know what’s better? If you came over here!
@Roadlesstaken - That would be cool!
Those cut tags never work for me…what’s the secret??
Cool light boxes too…how’d you do that?
@CareyGLY - Go to Settings and click on Account. New options in there!
good times huh? those are a lot of pictures.
you sure traveled a lot.
Cool! Thanks. I wonder why that wasn’t on the Xanga Team page!
yay DC meet! can’t believe that is 9 months ago!
@Shades_of_Athena - Was it really? Man time sure flew by!
wooow.. you met SOOO many fds from xanga! I have never done that b4. that’s pretty awsome.
Awesome! I’ve only met one person from xanga…and we’re still friends.
@hitomineko - I recommend it =)
@xChoux_Pastry_Heartx - that’s good to hear! I made a lot of close friends from this site. Good memories.
Meet ups with Xangans from different areas must be interesting and exciting. I’m sure you’ve made many wonderful real life friends here in Xanga!
@icapillas - You would be correct =)
I’m planning on going to Canada at some point in time within the next year or two. =D
@Rhia_Pyrithea - what part?
Hey, there’s a lot of helpful information here!
