Help Me Make This A Sweet Deal
You see this girl here?
She wants one of these…
…and for some reason, I’m actually entertaining the idea of getting this for her. However, these things don’t come cheap!
She really wants one though and mentioned that her birthday was coming up in November, which would be a good time to give her this. While she’s definitely a cool girl and deserves to have a Flip cam, even she understands that is quite a lot to ask for from a friend she technically only met in person recently. As we kept on talking about it, we started working out a deal that could lead to the both of us getting something out of this (as you can see below).
With Oxygene08 as the witness, we made a deal. No matter what, I’m gonna get her something for her birthday, but if she wants that something to be a Flip cam she has to in turn do something special for me. She has until the week before her birthday (which gives her about a month and a half) to come up and do whatever she thinks would warrant a Flip cam gift from me. If I’m satisfied, she gets what she wants. If not, I’ll get her a t-shirt or something more of that caliber for her birthday instead.
This is where I could use some ideas. She suggested things such as making me a vest, wearing a picture of me for a week, or dedicating a post to me, but I’m not sure if that’s the best she can do. If you were in my position, what would be something she can do that would be good enough to justify me getting her a Flip cam? If you were in her position instead, what would you be willing to do for a Flip cam from me? FYI, we live on opposite coasts, so keep that in mind. I await your suggestions!

if she has a camera… get her to do something publicly. Like, use sidewalk chalk and draw / write something in the middle of the street (in a busy city of course!)… or put your picture on those campaign posters and write “ALEX FOR XANGA PRESIDENT” hahaha.

Tell her to make a video of her helping out 2 homeless bums. Not just throwing change in their cups but buying them a hot meal and most importantly, sitting down to talk to them and making them feel good. Of course, she needs to be careful and not talk to crackheads but people who are just down on their luck.
That is definitely worth a flip cam.
Make him a tailored suit, but not in the modern style. Make it from the 70′s (huge collar wings and from some psychedelic material)!
Skydiving while wearing a mask of RLT, and post the video on her blog
Dedicate a few blogs of her about the process of her making something for you, or learning to make something for you.
ie: process of learning how to and actually knitting a sweater or a plush toy.

I don’t think that anything like a post dedicated to you would cut it. Like- if my friend was getting me a $300 piece of shit, I’d do something great for them like make them a huge home cooked dinner, dedicated to all of their favorite foods ( in this case, mail it to you) . Or I would make some kind of petition, and get 1,000 people to sign it, petitioning for you to buy me the gift I want. and if you don’t get her that, get her something that you think she needs / would use.
For her to expect you to even get that for her, when you’re not bf/gf, or really close personal friends, is pretty selfish. I bet she’s sitting there thinking “That would be so awesome if he did HEHEHEHEHEH”

First, I do not see a problem with a gift like that Alex. At the same time though, I would hope that you get something in return, I know sometimes you want to give and give and not get anything back. I think the last person said she should visit you in VA, and I agree with them. I think it would be awesome for you two to visit with one another, and then you could make a video (about her visit to you in VA), with her new gift that you gave her. I would love to have something like that too, but I have never been one for having a lot of material things, I really am impressed though with your friendships you build with everyone.
