Bay Area Xanga Meet Recap (Pics + Video)
I’m back from my wonderful trip to NorCal! I was up there for a family vacation from Christmas Day to New Years. For a few of those days, I manage to branch off on my own to hang out with a bunch of Xangans in the area. If I calculated correctly, I met up with 43 Xangans this past year. Crazy! I must really enjoy the experience if I keep doing so.
My journey went throughout San Fransisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Sacramento. Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? By the way, if you’re expecting a huge post coming up…well, you’re right
xLove_Me_Alwaysx was the first Xangan I met up with. She works as a SF Chinatown tour guide, so I knew I was in good hands. She showed me around SF Chinatown and Downtown before it started pouring. She graciously allowed me to hang out at her house while I was trying to figure out a way to get down to South San Francisco to meet up with some Xangans I’ll be sharing a motel with. Thankfully, I lucked out when onlyjustbegun was able to give me a ride! What a lifesaver.
We met up with fLiPgUy31O, jeannie_dot_com, snapeful, and subaru3169 that evening and had a wonderful dinner. Sadly, onlyjustbegun was only able to hang out that one night, but I’m so happy she came out.
The rest of us hung out at our somewhat shady motel for the night. We booked two rooms with me ending up sleeping with the girls this trip. Not in THAT way (well, kinda).

We thought this person looked like Coach Ken Tanaka off of Glee. Yeah?After some good sleep and breakfast, we rolled down to San Jose for the first part of the Bay Area meet. We hung out mostly in Santana Row and later at a nearby mall. The place was so nice and ritzy! The weather was very cooperative, so we had a wonderful time chilling outside, listening to live music, chit chatting with one another while eating cupcakes, and looking out for girls for snapeful (yup, you read that correctly).

Elelkewljay brought the bear I got her! She was very sweet. Too bad she wasn’t able to hang out as long as we originally thought she could
The__Aesthete stopped by briefly as wellThat evening, we all split up into separate groups to do our own thing. Sonychak, his girlfriend Michelle (who’s now Xanga user WongTonShrimp! You’re not “real” anymore haha), snapeful and I ended up going back to SF where we ate at a sushi boat restaurant, rode down Lombard Street, and viewed the Golden Gate Bridge (which was “SOOO COLD!”, as you’ll see from the video clip).Now, we were planning on sleeping early to get enough rest for the second day of the meet. Did that happen? If you said hell no, you’re absolutely right! I’m not going to say everything that went down, but I’ll let the pictures below (and later, the video) tell a small part of the story.
One of the most memorable nights out hereThe last day of Bay Area meet was exhausting, but it was a great experience. After some traveling issues, we all met up at Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch before heading out to Alcatraz Island. That evening, we ate at a local sports bar and got ice cream before we finished up our long day together.

Ah I love it! I love moments like that. The only exciting thing I did over the holidays was run into some friends at the mall and go on a journey to Dominos at 11:00 at night with my friend because the one near me was closed -_-. These Xanga Meets look very appealing lol. Where do you find the time (and money) to travel a lot? I envy you sir.
@theacematt2 - i am thinking of making another one next year again in winter or summer… we will see… and see if people thought this was a successful meet.

Very good fun Alex! Glad you had a good time. The funny thing is, I don’t know or read any of these Bay Area Xangans, yet there is a whole other group of Bay Area Xangans I know instead. Lots and lots of Xangans.
@Roadlesstaken - Not very often. The last time I was there was in back in Dec 05.
Looks like you had fun. I might need to organize an Atlanta area Xanga meet-up. Then again, the only people who would probably go are yourself (as you seem to go to all the meet-ups), myself, and Peridot.

@tenshii_rage - I think it has become addicting. It’s so wonderful meeting up with people you bonded on here. The translation to real life isn’t awkward at all so far.
@Roadlesstaken - Am I on that list?! =) I’m hosting a small local one this month. I’ve had a few in the past, but on as big a scale as the ones you’ve had. I need pointers!
@lil_squirrel4ever - Of course you’re on my list! Was there any doubt? Who’s going to your local one? The biggest pointer I would say is spread the word out as early as possible, like at least a month. Meeting up to eat is good, but I would suggest some sort of group activity as well. Those were quite successful in the meets I’ve gone to.
@Roadlesstaken - It’s a really chintzy one–just 5 of us! =) I’ve already met two of them already. We’re looking at next weekend since i_nutrition has to leave on Jan 12th. The other xangans are booboo817, jezzsweatyme, and. straw_hut . We have a really good AYCE here too–it’s around $11.95 CAD for lunch!

aww, looks like good times! reminds me of my time in SF back in 05, had lunch on the fisherman’s wharf, shopped a little, took pictures passing alcatraz island while on a ferry ride to view the golden gate bridge. i even took the trolley down lombard as well, *sigh* good stuff. i think i did all the typical things that you’re supposed to do when you visit SF.

A small tea shop down Olin St. called Puripan Tea garden. If you’re ever in the area, stop by and try some tea =D
meet ups are fun… but i always get this feeling that i’d end up exhausting all my material to share before the party’s over… hmmm… so it would be like… uhhhmmmmm…..

@kiera181 - Haha yes, It was kinda interesting how that turned out. It didn’t really surprised me though; there are a lot of Asian people in that area and Xanga is heavily Asian, so it made sense. Our DC meet up was a lot more diverse.
@Roadlesstaken - That’s really cool. I moved here from DC (my family is still there) but it’s not easy for me to travel all the way across the country :-/ Do you have any pointers on how you organized the meet-up?
@kiera181 - Definitely getting the word spread out first to see interest. For the DC/MD/VA meet, I’m collaborating with someone so that helps.

@Roadlesstaken - Vietnam is amazing, it has taught me a lot. Mostly appreciating everything I have and not asking for more. I think 2 months is a little too long for me though, I have to rely on people to take me everywhere. I’m so use to being independant for everything, its kind of boring since I really don’t have many friends over here. The sight seeings is great though. I would really recommend visiting Asia, personally I want to visit Japan and China. You’ve probably heard that before though right? I mean who doesn’t want to visit Japan or China haha.
@Princess_Lynda - I’ve visited Hong Kong 2 years ago and can’t wait to visit it again with friends. Just need to find the time and money.
Hong Kong sounds exciting, did you take many pictures? Yeah it gets pretty expensive it was probably 1600 for a here and back ticket.
@Princess_Lynda - Ohhh yeah I did! I wrote a few entries about it way back when. I think when I went last time it was just over 1,000 dollars to get there, which wasn’t too bad.
@Roadlesstaken - Over 1,000 isnt bad at all. We got our tickets too close to the holiday which is why they went up so high. I’ll try to look for the entry, I’m really looking forward to seeing your experience there. If I could I’d travel to ever dip and peek of Asia. I’ll get there someday

@Adwaiy - I’m actually from Maryland, so I’ll probably won’t be the one hosting future SF meets haha. Stay tuned though; I’ll definitely spread the word if I come about any meets there.

@xChoux_Pastry_Heartx - I say I talked with most of the Xangans I met up with a good amount of time on here first. Actually, I already met up with a few of them a couple months ago in San Diego, so it wasn’t the first time I saw them. I’ve had positive experiences so far.

@Roadlesstaken - I have no idea. Xanga is just one of things where I’m used to only seeing people as their online personas. Sometimes, I forget that Xangans are just everyday normal folk who run around as real people. It’s just a really weird dimension shift, lol.

You probably will have to buy an external hard drive just to store all your Xanga pictures and videos. I think it’s great that you have these meet ups – makes for a stronger community here at Xanga.

@Roadlesstaken - No. Three of them are (shanella, cro_oner and grammarboy), and the last (ihsankhairir) is Malaysian. I’ve met cro_oner three times, shanella once, grammarboy once (but for two weeks straight), and ihsankhairir twice. Lovely people!
