Layout Change, Recent Economic Effects, San Diego Trip Update, and… Gor Gor!
I haven’t updated since last Tuesday because I’ve been too busy taking advantage of the nice weather and playing tons of tennis. About time it started behaving like spring here! Alas, today was the first rainy day of this past week, so now I got some time to sit and write. Here’s some mini updates on some recent happenings.
New Layout and New Section
Noticed any changes to my home page lately? I had repressedwriter do her magic to give my page a much needed face lift. What do you think so far? If you want her to pimp your site out, check out her post here for more information. She’s Roadlesstaken approved!
I’ve also added a new module to my home page titled “My Most Popular/Favorite Posts”. There, you’ll have links to some of my greatest hits and some of my personal favorite posts I’ve created. If you’re a new reader, feel free to check out some of my previous posts that you may have missed.
The Economy Versus My Club (Guess Who’s Winning?)Sport and fitness clubs are getting their butts handed to them by the economy, and that’s including the club I’m working at right now. With so many of our members leaving due to their own personal money woes and competition from area clubs, our club has been in the red for a while now. All we can do is try to ride this economic storm, but unfortunately that comes with a price. There has been so many cuts everywhere and I feel so bad for many of my co-workers’ situations. One of my co-workers just had a baby, but his hours are being cut in half. Another co-worker of mine had her hours reduced to just 4 hours a week! It’s even affecting the higher up people, with many of them taking drastic salary cuts or even going back to hourly wages.
Ironically enough, I’m actually getting promoted because of all these cuts! Since my manager is scaling back on his hours, I’m footing some of his managerial responsibilities. With that comes a slight raise, a better title, and more hours. Strange how things work huh?
I’m happy for my circumstances, but I’m terribly worried about my fellow co-workers and the club itself. Hopefully we’ll all pull through somehow.
San Diego Trip Update
As some of you already know, I’m visiting San Diego again (solo this time!) from Friday, May 1st until Wednesday, May 6th. I’ll be staying with the Xangan formally known as BomCamChuoi again and will hopefully see some of the old Xangans I met down there, as well as some new ones! Anybody gonna be in the area around that time? If you want to meet up just let me know below or send me a private message!
I’m still not totally sure on everything I’m going to do down there. So far, I’m just planning on relaxing on some of the many San Diego beaches and doing some local sight seeing. I also want to go to at least one big amusement park while I’m down there, most likely on that Saturday. I was thinking Sea World, but does anyone else have some better suggestions? My friend suggested Legoland and Wild Animal Park. Anybody have any opinions or experiences with any of the amusement parks I’ve mentioned?
Whatever I do, I’m sure I’ll enjoy my time. Please don’t rain down there like the last time I went!
Just For Fun: Gor Gor!My brother has the tendency to keep asking me stupid questions, so after a while I just don’t bother to response to him. Unfortunately for me, he would then proceed to say my name (“Gor Gor” is big brother) over and over again in odd ways until I finally succumb. If the day’s hot, skip the SD zoo and Legoland. All the animals in the zoo would be lazing about, so nothing exicitng there. Legoland just isn’t fun for the 16 and up crowd.
Worst case plan would be SD’s La Jolla beach. It’s never too late to pick up surfing.

@drung888 - Oh yeah, I’m planning on relaxing on that beach again. I’m not gonna go to the SD Zoo since I went last time. What’s your thoughts on Sea World? It’s pretty expensive, but do you think it’s worth it?

@Roadlesstaken - I haven’t personally been to Sea World, so I really can’t give an opinion.
However, if I had the chance, I would take the cost of Sea World tickets and blow it all on a decent sushi bar. I just think eating fish is funner than watching them, constantly being teased and tempted behind a three-inch glass tank.

Oh man, my youngest sister would do this to me ALL THE TIME. Finally I just started hanging her up on a hook on the closet door and closing the door. She’s fuss for a little while but eventually she’d quiet down.

SeaWorld’s good, but the tricks get old if you’re not a tourist. I’m not sure but.. Knott’s Soak City will be open sometime around spring, I’m not sure if it’s the time you visit or not.
I’d say more, but then again, I live in ghetto San Diego. Wooooo !

@aznguyjeremy - My old high school coach referred me to a tennis club back in December and I’ve been working there ever since. It was back when I was trying hard to find a job since my original plans fell through. I’m glad I found this place because I’ve moved up relatively quickly and met a lot of great people to network with. There sure are a lot of members with connections there haha
@HiArianne - What happens at Belmont Park at night? Haha, there’s a ghetto part of San Diego? Where’s that? I’m gonna be staying in the La Mesa area.

@OperationOpenmind - For me, I have a hard time reading stuff (i.e. Xanga entries) whenever someone talks to me. I’m usually good at blocking people out too, except when my brother does stuff like in the video haha

Haha that video is funny. That sucks about your job, I mean good about your situation but I know what you mean. I work at a vet and a pet boarding facility and the cuts they’ve had to make are crazy, people are going on vacation and leaving their pets and alot of people can’t afford to bring their pets to the vet either. We’ve let go of so many good workers because we just couldn’t give the hours to everyone. I hope the economy comes out of this slump soon. I have my gym account on hold for 10 bucks a month until I can afford to go back to it, I just work out at home now but I miss it

@Drugsy - How much does your gym membership cost you? Your gym’s hold policy is a bit more than ours (5 bucks a month)
@Roadlesstaken - It costs me 35 a month, which is a little high but it has a pool and hot tub and really nice equipment, it’s LA Fitness I’m sure you’ve heard of it, I think rates are even higher now, but I’ve been there for about 3 years so my price is set, that’s why I’ll never just quit, I love being able to freeze the membership
