My “Fantastic” Date With the Bubble Tea Girl
Ahh, I’ve finally got around to writing about my date. I was going to write about this yesterday, but as some of you might have read in my pulse I had to pick someone up from the airport and I got a lovely ticket on the way for almost running down a MTA police officer. In my defense, he was freaking jaywalking in the middle of traffic! I slowed down, but then I thought he was waving me to keep on going, so I did. Apparently he was actually telling me to stop, but I didn’t get that message. Fail! Luckily, it was only a warning, so no fine or points taken off. I’ll definitely be more aware of random police folks crossing the roads at the airport from now on!
Alright, let’s get back to that date.
I initially met her at the bubble tea shop where she works and where I visit quite often. We started talking after a while and we found out that we were both the same age and were interested in one another. She was pretty cute, so I thought why not?
The date started off on the wrong foot right from the get go. She had given me a street address to pick her up, but didn’t tell me her city. When I punched it in the GPS, it found the address to be at Towson. It wasn’t until after I drove an hour over there that I found out she was actually in Baltimore! Urgh.
After that big detour, I finally picked her up and we decided to just hang out at the mall and get lunch. I had other plans, but those got rained out (literally). It was okay though; the main thing I wanted to do was get to know her better, so what we did didn’t matter as much. Coming in, I knew we may have a slight language barrier since she was a FOB. As it turned out, the language barrier was the least of the problems.
Here were some of the “fun” things I found out about her throughout the date:
She’s a bit too high maintanence for me. Whenever she got the chance, she would take out her mirror and make up and go to town on her face. I guess she wanted to make a good impression for me, but throughout the whole date? Seriously, it wasn’t needed.She dressed a little too skanky that day. Don’t get me wrong; she did look pretty good in her outfit and it would have worked very well had it been sunny and warm. That day, it was extremely windy, rainy and cold. Everyone else was bundled up for the weather, including me, so she stuck out. I even asked her before we left if she wanted to get a jacket, but she tells me “no, jackets make me look fat”. Hmm, okay.
She’s apparently prejudice against umbrellas. As previously stated it was raining like a mofo that day, so I offered to hold a big umbrella over the both of us. However, she refused it, telling me that she “thinks umbrellas are ugly and would rather get wet.” Hmm, alright.
She might also be a little racist. As we’re driving, I asked her how she likes Baltimore so far. She responded by saying “too many black people”, except replace “black people” with another term 0_0.She had problems with food. Somewhere in our conversation, she mentions how she usually only eats once a day because she’s “too busy”. Later, when we went out to eat for lunch, she doesn’t really order much to eat even though she has not eaten at all that day. She said that she wasn’t very hungry, but I wasn’t sure if I believe her. Which leads me to –
She had quite the distorted view of her body. She was by no means fat. I would almost go as far as say she was petite, but she thought she was some hippo or something. She claims to have gained 30 pounds since she came to the United States 8 months ago, so she’s trying not to eat as much. In my head I’m thinking “damn, did you weigh like 70 pounds before??” There goes another check on the cons list.She had some “interesting” pictures on her phone. While showing me her phone pictures, there was one picture that popped out immediately. It was of her kissing another girl on the lips while a shirtless guy was behind them, kinda holding them together. Bemused, I asked her about the picture and she told me “oh, that’s my sister and her boyfriend. We get silly sometimes whenever I visit her. All three of us like to sleep in the same bed together!” Umm…
She was texting her ex-boyfriend throughout the date. Granted, she said she didn’t really want to talk to him and he was the one that kept texting and calling her. Seriously though, could you have maybe hold off on that while you’re on a date with another guy? That can wait until after the date right? Actually, there was a reason why it couldn’t wait -
She was meeting up with her ex-boyfriend after our date was over. Again, she claims that she didn’t want to see him and that he wanted to give her back some stuff or whatever. I ended up driving her to the bubble tea place where she works so she could meet up with him there. Yup.With all that being said, I’m gonna put myself out there and say she probably isn’t a keeper and I will most likely not go on a second date with her. Perhaps I’m being too picky, but there were far too many cons than pros with that girl. I might consider giving her a second chance if she ask me out, but I think I won’t be too disappointed if we don’t.
Oh well, at least I got a free bubble tea drink at the end =P

you are definitely not too picky~ she isn’t the right one for you and all your points were valid. The distorted image thing is very prevalent among asian girls~ I’m part of it but my ideal body image isn’t skin and bones but more of a toner well exercised body. Either way, she doesn’t sound the least bit attractive to me because with makeup almost all girls can be somewhat cute
Either way, she can always be your eye candy at the bubble tea place~ hopefully she is still considering now you’ve met the uglier side.

Aww, that sounds like a sucky date, but I don’t blame you for running…I wonder if these girls realize that their body image issues are uglier than their body? And seriously – a jacket makes her look fat and an umbrella looks ugly?!

Um… Well, I have a story about the high maintenance one. This guy (in my class) thought that was one of those girls who wake up at 4 a.m. to get ready and stuff for a class at 8. When my classmate told me that i had to LOL (literally) because that day I woke up late, took a quick shower, my hair was air dried (it usually is), sunblock (of course), and ran out of the house. I do like to take care of myself though, is that so wrong?
(and no, I’m not a mirror looker)
Other than that, she has been brainwashed by the media. Sad, sad, sad.
Back to the date: when she starts talking about the ex, it means that she still wants to get back with him. She was taking this opportunity to try to “move on”, but as you can see, it’s not working.

Well, one thing I can say is that you have a good heart for thinking about giving her a second chance but there’s many fishies in the sea. This particular one doesn’t sound like a good fit for you. You seem really down to earth and she… well…doesn’t. And I personally think that umbrellas are a good invention. lol

With dating you’re gonna have to take your chances sometimes; sometime you’ll get a hit, and many times you’ll get a miss haha. I’ve had great first dates before with girls I didn’t really know beforehand; this one just wasn’t it.

Oh I’m so glad you wrote about this! It’s nice to have a guy’s perspective! Yeah, you def. deserve better, Alex. From what you wrote, the girl sounds a bit absurd. I mean, she was text-messaging her ex throughout the date? If a guy with whom I was on a date did that, I would cut the date short. I can understand if he has the need to contact his ex for whatever reason, but to do that throughout the date is just rude, at least have some amount of decency and respect for the person whom you are with regardless of how great the date is. Save yourself the trouble, Alex!
Wow, this is a serious contender for being a date from hell. It was funny to read but probably not as funny to actually be in that situation. Yet in a way, what a relief that there were blantant signs that she wasn’t the one for you. But what if the girl was sweet, charming, and everyone’s best friend? Yet she’s left cluess (and heartbroken) when the guy decides to pursue someone else.

Wow–sounds like a date from hell…I know it’s so cliche to say, but you seriously can do a lot better!! I think the 5 alarm bells must have been ringing loudly..haha =) She must be pretty darn cute for you to give her a chance.
The makeup thing bothers me–one time I was out with a lot of people and a bunch of us girls went to the bathroom together (as girls tend to do), and next thing you know it the whole gang was taking out their makeup kits to redo their faces–I was there simply to pee..I never felt so awkwaard in my life. I guess I’m just not that high maintanence….but then I don’t get why your date doesn’t like umbrellas because I hate being rained on!

Nah, she wasn’t like that thank goodness. Despite all I said above, I think she was overall a nice girl, perhaps just not a nice girl for me to date.

The fact that you had the time to think about all those things just shows you weren’t interested enough because you would have been talking the whole time if it went well. This is all reminding of what I went through in France. I randomly decided to go without alcohol for 2 weeks – two hardest weeks of my life. Not because I was an alcoholic, but more b/c it had become a habit. An uncontrollable habit. I wasn’t even drinking much, but I was definitely drinking every night.
So Xanga has become somewhat like that – I feel compel to sign in, check what’s up. So I’m going to stay away, and not sign in at all, for this month. Just to see if I can LOL.

That’s a shame… but look at it this way: 1 down, some-odd-billion (literally) to go! And for the record though… umbrellas on a windy AND rainy day are not the best way to go. I skipped a day of class once b/c of that weather. I started out the door w/ the umbrella and a few seconds later my umbrella was turned inside out and was blown away. wow.. she’s creepy lol. what is up with everyone these days (including me) going on very unsuccessful dates?!?! it sucks… makes me wonder if going on dates is really worth the hassle now. haha. nowadays, i’d rather go out with someone i was friends with for a long time… someone i know inside-out, so it’s more fun and better that way…
in fact, i AM in the middle of trying to get with one of my best guy friends. we’ve always had an attraction towards each other, but never actually went to the next step. i’m trying now though haha.

on another note, i’m not very surprised about the two sisters kissing each other, because i’ve heard of sisters that give each other oral sex. something about wanting to practice to see how it feels so when the guy does it, they know ….. >.< so gross…

haha i used to go to high school with them. i was in class one day, and the girl was talking about how she gives her little sister oral. and i was like “WHAT?!” and she turned and was like, “oops, I didn’t think I said it loud enough for everyone to hear…” and she didn’t even seem that fazed by it. So I turned to my friend, and was like, “ew that’s so gross,” and she said, “You never knew sisters do that? It’s nasty, but I know of a lot of girls that practice on their sisters.”

I will admit that I’m not one for umbrellas either, but it has nothing to do with them being ugly. The only time I’ll use one, typically, is on my way into work (and sometimes not even then–depends on how hard it’s raining). I find the rain refreshing. But that’s just me.
But, yeah, wow, definitely something interesting to write about. Any interesting/amusing dates since?
