Life Update 01/03/09
I’ve been lacking some motivation to write up an entry lately. I’m still commenting, checking out people’s site, and making minor updates on pulse, but I’ve been um, enjoying myself doing several other things as of late
I finally bought myself an iPhone 3G the day after Christmas and I’ve been extremely attached to it ever since. It really was a great investment. Now, whenever my old computer freezes up (which has been happening more often recently) I can just go to my iPhone as my backup browser. Bejeweled 2 on the iPhone has especially been distracting. I tell myself I would just play one quick game, but by the time I’m done I’ve wasted a half hour on it!
When I’m not messing around with my iPhone, I’ve been playing Rock Band 2 too much. That always eats up at least a couple hours of the day. I made a character in the game that is sorta modeled after my current profile pic, except the character is waaaay too skinny, has an inverted groin area, and is very Caucasian looking. Here, take a look yourself (if you haven’t seen it already):
Hey, I did the best with what the game gave me.For New Years, I was suppose to go to my friend’s family house party, but decided not to go at the last minute because I was too tired (for a couple of reasons). I just stayed home playing Rock Band with my brother and a friend until midnight, then went to bed relatively early. I was actually fine with having a laid back New Years this year. Judging from what I’ve read from people’s Xanga and what I’ve heard from my friends, staying in was very common this year.On New Year’s Day, I went to watch Slumdog Millionaire. It’s a highly raved movie about a poor boy who is accused of cheating due to his ability to answer all the questions on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” (as seen in picture below). The story basically shows how he knew the answers based on his life experiences (he got a lot of help from fate btw). At the same time, there’s a very intense story between the boy, his older brother and a girl he grew up with.
I don’t think I have a bad thing to say about it. It was just a great story, almost like a modern day fairy tale about the underdog rising to the top. Very uplifting movie, and it certainly didn’t dwindle my hopeless romanticism. However, don’t be fooled into thinking this is some fluffy love story, because it certainly not. While there are some wonderful, joyful scenes in this movie that made me want to cheer, there were other scenes that can really make you feel the harsh reality that the main characters have to survive through.
Freida Pinto (the actress above) is freakin’ gorgeous, FYIThis is the first movie I’ve seen in 2009, and it was really one of the best movies I’ve seen in the past year. The acting was great across the board and the movie did a good job showcasing the modern Indian world. Fantastic soundtrack as well (you can listen to one of the songs, “Jai Ho”, in my playlist at the bottom of the page). Without any big negatives I can think of right now, I have to give Slumdog Millionaire a 5 out of 5.
So in case you were wondering, the reason why I had all this free time to have fun is because I wasn’t scheduled to work a lot this past week. That’s going to change very soon though; once one of my co-worker leaves for college, I will be taking up her hours and work full-time. I’m glad, because I’ve only been doing part-time and I could use the extra money to help me save up for a new laptop and to help me pay for my college loans. As the schedule looks now, I will be working at least a few hours every day of the week, mostly morning shifts. I’m definitely going to get used to waking up at 4:45am X_X . Not sure If I’ll get used to going to bed at 9pm.
Okay, I need to get ready to go play tennis soon. Before I head out, I just want to leave you all with the following two unintentionally (or intentionally?) hilarious commercials I saw today that were featured on Failblog. How do the commercial makers NOT notice the blatant innuendos?

Cool update! I’m glad your iPhone is proving to be useful. It’s great to have a backup browser… I don’t know how one could survive without internet access for too long!
You’ve made me really want to see Slumdog Millionaire now. It sounds like an interesting premise for a movie! Freida Pinto is gorgeous.
iPhones are sweet! Some of my friends have them.
Omg those commercials are hilarious XD
Congrats on working full time now. I’m sure you’ll be rolling in dough in no time.
As for the iPhone…I hate apple. That phone can do too many things. =/
Remember to not have your iphone take over your life XP
those videos made my day. Thank you
The iPhone is such a great device, my friend had one and i can’t recall anything from the lecture we were sitting in.
Oh I love failblog!!
It’s good to know Slumdog Millionaire is good. I’ll have to check it out.
Hopefully your work schedule continues to give you some more free time. 5 a.m. work days must hurt! Ouch!
omg are those commercials real? no wayyy
slumdog millionaire is like the best movie of 2008! actually i still wanna see marley and me though haha
did you see benjamin button or seven pounds? those are pretty intense ones too.
Regarding the commercials, are these seriously real products for sale?! I rarely go to the movies; the last movie I saw in the theaters was PS I Love You.
My brother swears by the iPhone; he loves the dang thing.
I have Verizon; I remember them turning down the iPhone when Apple asked them to be the carrier. So my crackberry will do.
I shall update soon!
I had heard some of the buzz about Slumdog Millionaire but didn’t know what it was actually about. You’ve made me want to see it now!!!
@decembriel -
The iPhone is perfect for an internet addict like me! Yea, Frieda Pinto was gorgeous and she acted well. I’m surprise this is her first real movie role.
@one_eared_batman -
Initially I didn’t wanna get one because all my close friends had them. Well, I guess I joined the club =P
@indiechaos -
Haha I doubt I’ll be rolling in dough, but I’ll have a lot more money than I do now. I’ve always been a relatively light spender and good saver, so I can make my money last
.
@InlUvWiTuRsMiLe -
At this rate, the iPhone will probabably have me assimilated by the end of this month X_X.
@AzureRecollections -
That was part of the reason why I didn’t wanna get it while I was still in college. I would never be able to take notes haha.
@Lynn1013 -
I’m slowly getting used to waking up for those morning shift. It’s not that bad (besides the waking up part). The people there in the morning are nice enough, and it’s relatively quiet. It also feels good to get my work done and out of the way first thing so I can enjoy the rest of the day.
@jeNNi_RoX -
I saw Benjamin Button and loved that! It reminded me so much of Forrest Gump, which is one of my favorite movies. While Forrest Gump was about an ordinary man doing extraordinary things, Benjamin Button was about an extraordinary man doing ordinary things haha.
I sorta wanna see 7 Pounds just because I love Will Smith, but I’ve been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about it. I may have to settle for watching it on DVD or something. What did you think of it?
@BomCamChuoi -
Apparently they are, but they’re kinda old commercials (that fish one was made circa 1994). I go to the movies way too often. Wow, P.S. I Love You came out like 6 months ago haha. Now would be a good time to revisit the theaters. So many really great movies out i.e. Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino.
Do you text a lot? If so, the blackberry is probably the better phone for you than the iPhone, since texting on there can take some getting used to. However, iPhones are so much fun
.
@TheCheshireGrins -
Go for it! It’s sorta following the path of past indie movies like Juno and Little Miss Sunshine. Definitely worth a look.
@Roadlesstaken -
Before PS I Love You, it was I am Legend. =) I watch a lot of Netflix movies, mostly indie or independent films. I also watch a lot of foreign independent films too.
I do text a lot, and the blackberry is great for that! But I gotta be careful when installing programs. A mechanism that blackberry has for it to not crash on you, it will randomly delete txt messages, emails and your call log. That has happened one two many times! It’s on crack, I tell ya!
@BomCamChuoi -
You should check out Slumdog Millionaire then, since it’s more or less an indie film! You’ll probably like it.
It randomly delete things? Are you sure it’s suppose to do that? I would think there would be some sort of pattern to it.
@Roadlesstaken -
I usually wait until movies have come out on DVD =) That’s what Verizon told me; for the Blackberry not to totally crash on me, it will delete those things. And so I deleted AOL AIM the other day. Too many apps on my phone will do that..
I miss my old phone, it had bejeweled 2 on it
yes, that game is soooo addictive.
bejeweled is addictive!! =D I always play it on my phone during traffic jam lol. =D
omg.. the ‘tiddy bear’ hahahaha…
i was also thinking abt getting an iphone… aiyaiyai.. but its still more expensive than others…
haha..I need a Tiddy Bear!! The seatbelt is always catching on my shirts!
I have to check out Slum Dog Millionarrie! I was thinking the other day 2008 didn’t have a lot of good movies–thanks for the recommend!
lol i like bubba gump, the restaurant
mm seafood hehe
i love will smith too! favorite actor fsho. mmm i fell asleep during seven pounds though. pretty much the first hour is really slow and it all comes together the last like half hour of the movie – a lot of people i know loved it! i think i fell asleep because i watched it after movie hopping benjamin button and slumdog millionaire – too many hours of movies. so i say you should watch it lol
lol the tiddy bear it always near the womans titties…xP
i wanna watch slumdog millionaire dont think its in msia yet though..hmm
your RB persona does look Caucasian; mine doesn’t look a thing like me. oh well.
and oooh iPhone! I’ve been thinking of getting one and as soon as I find a job in my chosen field, I might. But for now, I have to be satisfied with my MacBook
Hm, what area of the country do you live in? Slumdog Millionaire isn’t available in my area ><
But I was glancing through the comments and DEFINITELY wanted to rec. Seven Pounds. Personally, I think it was even more intense than I am Legend, at least during the last ten minutes when everything comes together and all the questions are answered. Half the people in the theatre walked out crying when I went to see it, lol.
So you really like the iPhone eh? I’ve been really reluctant to get it, for multiple reasons, but is there anything you DISlike about it?
- John
@B1ANCACACA -
You know what makes it even more addicting? Being able to create those exploding pieces! I keep on playing until I can make all these perfect chain reactions haha.
@darth_cosmos -
Have you tried Bejeweled 2? They somehow made it even more addicting by adding new elements to the game (like the exploding pieces I mentioned in the above comment).
@yan_ni -
the iPhone 3G is actually much cheaper than the original. It’s only 200 bucks if you get the 8GB one w/ a two year contract. Still I agree, it’s pretty expensive.
@lil_squirrel4ever -
Really? I thought 2008 had some pretty good movies out this year! Check out Benjamin Button as well if you get the chance.
@jeNNi_RoX -
… you saw 3 movies at one movie sitting?? That’s crazy, especially since Benjamin Button was freakin’ 3 hours long! I would get way to hungry after the second one haha.
@s_h_a_sha -
Haha see I think the commercial maker had to have known that the name sounded like that. Why else would they felt the need to spell out Tiddy? haha.
@rianahntr -
You know, I was thinking about going the Mac route whenever I get the chance to buy a new laptop. Seems like a good machine. Would you reccomend it?
@The_Aftershock_3650 -
I live in Maryland and it was recently made available in a nearby theater. Before it was only showing at like one theater about an hour away from me. Hopefully it’ll expand into more theaters because it’s a really great movie.
I wanna watch 7 Pounds if I can find someone to go see it with. I heard some mix reviews about it and how there’s a crazy but somewhat silly ending. I love Will Smith, so I’m gonna definitely try to check it out if not in theaters on DVD.
Yea, there’s a couple of things I dislike about it. Being a touchphone, the screen can get oily often which is a little annoying. They typing takes some time getting used to. Battery life could be a problem as well if you use it constantly. However, the benefits of the iPhone greatly outweighs any of it’s faults. I’m glad I finally got one.
i’m feeling unspired too. four days so far of 2009 and not a single entry =/
and i keep cheating at rockband. i make my brother unlock songs. and then i just buy the ones i want to play haha
ryc: the time traveler’s wife is one of my favorite books. so many allusions to good poetry and literature, too!
@AzNGiRL4EvaH -
What instrument do you normally play? I love the drums
Cool, I heard so many good things about that book that I’m definitely gonna read it after I somehow find the time to finish up The Lovely Bones. If I end up traveling to CA later this month I think I’ll bring the Time Traveler’s Wife along.
If you do decide to come to SD, I definitely have to take you to eat In & Out Burgers (its a west coast thing), Balboa Park, go eat Carne asada burritos. Do you like pho? The Vietnamese noodle soup? Then I could take you to downtown, and definitely the beaches! Oh there’s so much to see, do and eat!
@BomCamChuoi -
Excellent, I really hope I end up going! It really depends if I can get friend to go as well. I can afford it for sure though.
I’ve heard of this In & Out Burgers before haha. Is it sorta like Five Guys? I LOVE pho!
If I go, I probably would wanna get my hotel at SD and hang out there. I can also visit the LA area if I wanted to. However, there’s a slight chance I may decide to go to the San Francisco area instead because I have some family there. I would get free housing, but then I would be relatively far away from LA and definitely San Diego! My decision will hopefully clear up over the next few days.
Your RB2 character reminds me of the Sim games. You can’t really make these characters look exactly like you because you have unique characteristics.
Interesting movie. My aunt once asked me if I ever went on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” because she thought she saw someone on there that looked just like me. Gasp… I have a twin somewhere
.
Hey, don’t mean to be the stranger but i came across your very interesting blog lol.
Good to know someone other than me LOVED Slumdog Millionaire. I agree with you, 5 out of 5 is definitley right. That movie was amazing. A little bit corny, but amazing-corny, haha.
Make sure you don’t end up getting carpal tunnel syndrome after all the attachment to your new iPhone.
-Beverly
Okay so my crackberry won’t let me reply to your message…
Dude! Asian friends don’t let Asian fiends stay in hotels! You and your buddy can crash on my couches! I live in a one bedroom apt and its fully furnished. The only bad thing is I don’t have cable. TV is bad for my emotional state.
But hey that’s an option for you if San Diego is on your itinerary.
Weekends are good because I have it off. Just let me know! And I can pick you up from the airport..
@BomCamChuoi -
I’m sure you meant “Asian friends” and not “Asian fiends” haha. It looks like I’m definitely gonna go to SD if I end up going.
Alright, let continue this conversation over PM.
@ladyofthesilk -
Haha you’re right, it kinda does! You know, I have this one theory that we all have a twin somewhere around the world. They may be a different race, older, or younger, but they are your twin haha. Not sure how much evidence I’ve gathered for that theory yet.
@UNWANTED_S0ULxX -
Oh it’s fine, most of the people who commented here were once strangers. I guess they still kinda are, but I got to know them better so not really haha. How did you find this blog btw?
You know people that didn’t like the movie?? So far everyone I know that seen it thought it was really good! I hope it does well at the Oscars.
Yea, I think my eyes will get messed up first before I get carpel tunnel =P
i love bejeweled…i don’t have an iPhone but i play it on yahoo, haha. and i love rock band! i used to be a guitar hero fanatic but after getting the rock band games and the new guitar hero: world tour, i have to say i like rb a looooot better :p
@ABSOLUTmichael -
Ah, I was waiting to see if someone who played Guitar Hero World Tour would come by to comment. I was thinking about getting it since all the instruments are compatible but not sure. How is Rock Band better than Guitar Hero?
I have a good friend who lives in India. He is paralyzed from the neck down for past 4 years due to doctor negligence. Over there, he is an outcast. A very harsh reality. We are so fortunate here.
Haha .. glad you told us that the image was a character. I thought that was a photo of you!
@Roadlesstaken - DRUMS ALL THE WAY.
@AzNGiRL4EvaH -
YES! Drums are the most important part anyways
@watersedge62 -
I know right? Good thing we don’t have a caste system over here.
Haha come on, give me a little credit; I hope you didn’t imagine my legs being that skinny =P
Well… to be honest.. I don’t see so well up close. I once was corresponding with someone on Myspace.. for about a month.
I never really looked at this profile except the photo cause he was helping me with technical issues. Well,, I thought the profile pic was a formation of planes.. It was turtles in the sand!! I cannot see close up lol.
@Roadlesstaken -
On a featured blog or something like that about movies, haha.
And everyone I ask never heard of slumdog millionaire. How absurd! And it would be awesome if the underdog takes it home
If you liked Slumdog, you’ll love Drumdog: http://careygly.xanga.com/689062882/golden-retrievers-globes–labs-plus-a-drumdog-and-an-elephant/
