My Greatest Hits and Misses of 2008
Just like that, another year has past. Quite a lot has happened over this time, both good and bad. I think I’ll be a little cliche and make an end of the year list of the best and worst things that has happened in my life in 2008. I’m just going to put down things that were directly related to me though. Otherwise, I would have to put down hits such as Rafael Nadal becoming the new #1 player in the world and winning Wimbledon, Barack Obama winning the election, and Lost becoming good once again, to name just a few haha.
Note: This is a pretty lengthy post, so I will understand if you just skim through it
. I really don’t expect anyone to read the whole thing. This is more so for me to remember the year. Also, if I had written an entry about an item on my lists, I will link the item to the original post so you could read more about it if you’re curious. Otherwise, you can just glance at my brief thoughts about each item on this post.
My Greatest Hits of 2008 (in no particular order):*Graduating Magna Cum Laude from UMBC (link) – I can’t believe I almost miss the ceremony! I’m still surprised at how well I did in college. I actually got higher grades in college than in high school, which is unusual.
*Getting my first tennis-related trophy (link) – It may not be as big of a deal for some people (especially since it’s only an runners-up trophy, aka first loser trophy haha), but it felt really good finally getting one, especially with my friend Kevin as my doubles partner.
*My club winning the Most Improved Team award from (the now defunct) CollegeClubTennis.com (link) – A wonderful way to end my time running the club tennis program.
*Meeting Vince Spadea and getting tons of autographs at the Legg Mason tournament (link) – Vince Spadea is a veteran tennis pro btw (in case you didn’t know who he was). He wrote a book about his time on the tour (which was one of the first tennis-related book I’ve read), so it was nice to actually meet and take a picture with him. Also managed to score autographs from other tennis pros such as John Isner and Tommy Haas. Good stuff!
*Being featured in a TennisLife magazine article (link) – The article was related to finding love on the tennis courts. Big surprise huh? =P
*Visiting Hong Kong (links to part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and part 5) – First time I’ve gone back since I was 2 years old. Loved it there! Anyone wanna go there with me in the near future?
*Visiting Las Vegas and Hollywood (link) – Wasn’t nearly as fun as I would have wanted since it was a family trip there. I definitely want to go back to Las Vegas with friends next time. There were so many things I wanted to see and do but couldn’t because I was babysitting my little brother
. Still, it was nice finally seeing places I always see in movies and such.
*Visiting New York (link) – Been a long time since I visited here. I want to make more road trips like this one in the new year.
*Visiting Virginia Beach (link) – What a relaxing time. Great vacation after my job woes (see later below).
*Having my old high school buddies and current tennis club buddies celebrate my birthday (link) – Having everyone there for me means more than they would ever know.
*Seeing my best friends from high school all graduate (links here and here) – I can’t believe we’re all finish with our undergraduate experience! The next steps in our lives will be very interesting.
My Greatest Misses of 2008 (in no particular order):
*First time experiencing the death of a friend (links here and here) - This was an unbelievable shock to me. Jamie Heard, you are still missed. Wish you were still around.
*Losing my brand new digital camera (link) - I’ve never lost such an expensive item before! I lost it after about a month. So mad at myself for being so careless. Haven’t lost anything like that ever since.
*Not getting the offer to my dream job of working for the USTA…3 times! (links here, here, and here) – I had three chances this year and lost out to all three after reaching the final interviews of all of them. Pathetic! Oh well, the experience has it’s silver lining; I now know not to take getting a job for granted. Things won’t always come easy to me.
*Failing to get even my back-up jobs (links here and here) – What a humbling experience. The second failure was just embarrassing. There are way too many Alex Chans in the world -_- .
*First year I didn’t have a girlfriend since back in 2001 (no link) – I was chatting with a friend when I realized this crazy fact; ever since 2002, I’ve had a girlfriend for at least some part of the year up until this year. Not saying that I didn’t date any girls this year, but I haven’t had anything long term like I was used to having over the past 5-6 years. I guess I lost my mojo haha. Well, I hope to find it soon so I can have it for this upcoming year. I need to end this drought
.
There’s my recap of this year’s greatest hits and misses. I’m sure there’s more items I could put on both list, but I can’t remember them at the moment. I wonder what I have to look forward to in 2009?
Comments (89)
I like this list. It sounds that overall 2008 was pretty okay for you. May 2009 be amazing to you!
I can’t wait to go back to Las Vegas and LA when I’m 21(ready to play some poker!) I want to get a group of friends to climb down the grand canyon with me, camp a night at the bottom, and climb up again (sounds pointless I know). I hope you did get to visit the grand canyon, it was one of the most spectacular sights ever.
I hope next year you’ll have less misses and more hits
Seeing all the pictures of you and your highschool buddies gives me hope that I will be able to stay in touch with my highschool friends in the future.
@TheCheshireGrins -
At first I thought you were saying “May 2009″ be amazing. I was like thinking “what’s suppose to happen in May…?” haha
@hopefull_soul -
I actually didn’t! My family decided we didn’t feel like taking the trip there, but I kinda wanna go now after reading your comment haha.
It’s tough, but you can stay in touch w/ your old friends if you try hard. I’ve lost a few good friends along the way though, but somehow I was able to keep in touch w/ my closest buddies.
Looks like you had a pretty good year! Funny, I was going to do something similar to your post about 2008! You beat me to it!
Sounds like an ok year. Hope your 2009 is better!
You went to a lot of places this year, lucky you
I was rather shocked to see Virginia Beach under your “Hits” section. I live in that area and most people hate that beach lol. The best part of my year was actually when I left the Virginia Beach area and went to the Baltimore Convention Center for an anime convention. Inner Harbor is so beautiful!!!
Hope 2009 is better!!
(And I want to go to HK with you!! We can both pretend we ‘know’ the language but not really…bwahaha!) Seriously though, I do want to go to HK…I have not been in over 20+ years…
wow quite an eventful year for you. Hope 2009 will bring you more hits than misses. I actually went to Virginia this summer but didn’t get to go to the Beach…i was a lil disappointed.
You had a lot of big accomplishments this year! Great job! I hope your 2009 is just as good!
@mysteriousromantic -
You can still do one! I’m pretty sure all the cool people are =P
@grinner08 -
Yea not bad, although I wish my job failures didn’t kick my butt so much X_X.
@Femme003 -
Haha sounds good. I’ll take any excuse to go back again. Although…wanna spare me the 1,000 dollar plane ticket?
@B1ANCACACA -
I’ve never been to so many different places before in one year. It was part of my graduation celebration I suppose haha. I had a pretty good time at the beach, although my friend did say there are a lot of jelly fish around (I didn’t see any where I was). I didn’t know you live so close by!
Ah, so you went to that summer anime convention eh? I had a friend who came all the way from Nebraska just to go! I haven’t gone yet, but I have a ton of friends that dress up and go every year. Did you cosplay?
@lilvietchik2003 -
Why did you head up to VA this year? Family? The beach was pretty relaxing
@Lynn1013 -
I didn’t realize how much tennis accomplishment I had this year until after I made this post. That was pretty cool
@Roadlesstaken - You know I’ve had some job failures in the past and they were actually better for me than I thought. Because they rejected me, I was actually able to get a much better job later on. If they didn’t reject me, I would have turned down the other job and been stuck in that position forever. I wouldn’t have known how good the better job was until I actually tried it out. Life is weird like that.
Seems like you had more good things than bad things happening this year. I hope the new year brings you more positive things to look forward to.
@grinner08 -
I think you have a really good point there. I think my rejections this year has definitely made my skin harder in a way. I don’t get knocked down as hard when I get rejected now. I sure could use a big win though! That would be very nice.
@k1nredfate9 -
Written down, it does look like that doesn’t it? For some reason though, those bad things have been on my mind more, but I guess it’s because most of my misses happened during the end of the year. I hope this new year will be good. I have not much clue what to expect, but I’m hoping for pleasant surprises
Great list–I read it all btw! Who knew I could learn so much about you in just one post! =)
I have yet to visit HK again since 1993–I’ve only been there twice–once when I was two, and once when I was 13 with family–so going again would perhaps be a different experience.
I totally think you need to do Vegas with friends–it has a whole different feel–but I’ve done it with family too and it’s still fun. I wish NYC was just a road trip for me!
As for the misses–sorry about your friend. I think at our age our mortality is certainly more apparent–and yet it seems like we’re all still too young to think about death and loss of loved ones.
BTW–I love your outlook on being single. Not many people are that positive! =) I’m sure with your attitude you must have women all over you!
hey thanks for the comment left last time, it was really funny. i couldn’t stop laughing thinking how pathetic some ppl in this world are. my computer has been stuffed so haven’t been able to log on and write anything but i’m still reading your blog via my email.
it seems like you’ve achieved a lot this year, which is great. You’ve done a lot of things and seen a lot of things. If i was to write the same blog as you, it would probably be about 3 sentences cause i’ve done crap-all this year. But i’m so envious, college life was the best so you should cherish it while you’re still in college cause seriously once you get that fulltime job, you have no time for anything, its work work work.
I’m going to be going Las Vegas and Hollywood sometime next month (yes i paid 2.5k for that plane ticket, aussie dollars that is) so what would you recommend that’s worth visiting? and how old is your brother? you know i absolutely know how you feel about younger siblings, i have a 12 year old brother and he’s a pain in the butt. i can never enjoy myself in any family events cause my brother is spoiled rotten and all i do all day long is boss him around and tell him to behave. If only i was the only child, hahaha then i’ll be the spoiled rotten one.
Anyway happy new year, hope 2009 is even better for u and u achieve even more =)
yeah ur 2008 isn’t so bad at all! congratulations graduating with cum laude honors! hope 2009 will be banging (good kind lol) for all of us!
@lil_squirrel4ever -
You read it all?? I feel special now haha. You deserve an award; hmm, want my runners-up trophy? =P
You’ll probably like HK much more now that you’re older. Shopping is awesome over there. So many good stuff for cheap!
I bet Las Vegas with friends is a whole different experience. For one thing, I can gamble and check out more adult-oriented shows. So you’ve been there at least twice?
I’ve been pretty lucky so far; haven’t had to deal with too many deaths in my life. So far I’ve only had to experience it with my friend and my grandfather. I’m sure that won’t be the same by the time I hit 30.
Idk about having all the women over me. Would be awesome if that were true wouldn’t it? haha
@cokaholic -
Your computer has been stuff? What does that mean? You’ve been feeding it too much food? (lame joke I know -_-)
College life was the best! I just graduated, so I’m sorta out in the real world for now, but I’m probably gonna end up going to grad school in the fall. However, I really doubt my grad experience will be anything like my undergrad experience. What is it you do for work?
Awesome! You going over there w/ friends or family? As far as recommendation, do you mean just in Las Vegas/Hollywood or in the US in general?
My brother’s 13, so around the same age as your brother. What’s the age difference between you two? Mine’s 9 years, and people think that’s a big gap. My brother isn’t as spoiled as yours probably, but he is a jokester and an actor. He always faking and lying about things, and when he does I proceed to kick his butt haha.
@pasaway4eva -
Hahahahaha banging! Good one there
May there be a lot of banging in 2009!
at least you graduated COLLEGE. no more forced education
@AzNGiRL4EvaH -
Well technically we don’t have to go to college either; just that our parents would probably kill us haha. I think I might end up going to grad school in the fall. Don’t really wanna go back to school, but with this economy it’s probably the best thing.
@Roadlesstaken - Ha! Like I have it to spare…lol
@Roadlesstaken - i was taking a road trip with my brother and his wife. We went to PA and VA to visit family friends. And then Spent 2 days in NY and then DC for a day. I really want to go back to NY and DC….there was so much to see and experience.
Have a Happy New Year! May the new year of 2009 bring us all HAPPINESS, HEALTH, LOVE AND PEACE!
Yeah didn’t like VA beach that much when I went a few years back, too much high tide, can’t swim!
forced education, i tell you
I think I’ll have to compile a list of things that happened in my year, too! What a great idea. Really makes you appreciate what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown.
And don’t worry about having lost your mojo! I find that people who spend a good amount of time single have a better sense of themselves anyway.
@Roadlesstaken - yeh im going to US in general but will be stopping by those 2 places. I’m going to go there with friends, 2 high maintenance girls that’s going to drive me nuts
but then there’s always the options of walking off and doing my own things.
Well my brother and i have a 12 year old gap, which is ridiculous because half the times when i take him out ppl think i’m his mother.
You’ve graduated? congrats! i saw your graduation photos but obviously didn’t read what was written below. what are you planning to study in grad school? i was planning to do grad school but then not sure if continous studying is what i wanted to do as i owe the government enough money from education.
First of all….write me down for the next Hong Kong trip lol….OMG how awesome that must have been! Vegas is only a 4 or 5 hour drive for me too…lol. Those are some really cool moments and trips that you mentioned. I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I lost a friend/ex boyfriend this year too.( January 5th)
I really like reading your blog…I very rarely find someone who posts things that I can read all the way through and always want to leave a comment. You are a cool guy!
@lilvietchik2003 -
Wow, so you pretty much visited all the surrounding areas of me haha. Well perhaps if you ever wanna visit DC again I can show you around?
@GaMeGurLsH -
I can’t really swim haha, so I didn’t go too deep in the ocean. Boogie boarding was fun though!
@AzNGiRL4EvaH -
Haha, so how many years you have left in college?
@kaleidescopeeyes88 -
I do agree with you, I’ve definitely grown and matured a lot after being single for so long. However, I ready to be back in a relationship
@cokaholic -
Ah nice! Well if you stop by the East Coast near DC I can probably offer better suggestions for places to visit. Maybe I’ll tag along if you want =)
I’m planning on studying to be an industrial/organizational psychologist. I read about it and they make pretty good money, and it’s sorta like HR, which was my second choice for a type of job if I couldn’t work for the tennis industry. I originally just wanted to find a full time job after graduating, but the economy has kicked my butt badly. That’s why I’m going back to school. Don’t really want to (all that money and what not) but it’s sounding more and more like a good idea.
@BrandNubian -
Sure thing. You wanna spot me the 1,000 dollar ticket to HK? haha
Sorry to hear about your ex. I don’t know how I would feel if an ex of mine died. How was it for you?
You actually read this whole post? More power to you haha. I’m glad I’m enjoyable to you
@Roadlesstaken - that would be lovely. YEah i only had one day in DC that was NOT enough!!! The trip was too rushed…i feel like i needed at least a month to go to each place and spend more time there.
@Roadlesstaken - Uhhhh sure….$1000… lol! As far as my ex dying I was ok for a while. It took me about 8 or 9 months to “freak out”. I was driving home one day and just started to cry and then I saw a car accident down the street from my complex.( That’s how he died) I totally freaked out and had to call this guy that was my drum instructor ( and also my ex’s) in high school. He had to talk me down because I was screaming and crying so hard. That morning I’d had the last dream I’ve had about my ex. I had been having these dreams regularly and in them I knew that Chris was dead and that he was coming to me in my dreams so that we could hang out. In this last dream I was in our high school and I was searching for him. Finally I found him and I hugged him and told him how much I love him and how much I miss him. I just kept saying ” I never got to tell you how much I cared about you.” He just hugged me and smiled. I haven’t had another dream since and I know that it’s a sign that I need to move on but it also kind of makes me sad. Like in the movie PS I love you when she says that she doesnt feel her husband around her anymore. I’m going to his grave for the first time on Sunday. ( I had to leave town before his funeral last year) I’m on a healing journey and I’ve come a long way but I have a long stretch of road ahead of me too. Sorry to write this whole novel about the subject but…yeah. And….YES…I read the whole post!
@lilvietchik2003 -
Alright, it’s a deal
. I still haven’t seen everything that can be seen in DC, so it would be fun to explore with you.
@BrandNubian -
It’s understandable. Shoot, I wrote two posts on my friend who wasn’t the closest of friends but was a very likable guy. I wish you well on your journey.
@Roadlesstaken - Awesome! now i have a tour guide!! yay!!! we’ll talk more when i actually have the time and money to visit
@Roadlesstaken - well i was on contract for my previous job as a secondment, and since the previous person is coming back then obviously they wouldn’t want to keep me there any longer.
where’s DC? hahaha. i’m sorry i’m really bad with directions and i’m totally unorganised for this trip, i’m a spontaneous person . . . but yeh if i’m not going there already i’m more than happy to stop by on my own if you can tell me why i should go there
and i would love to have u tag along with me but i thought u already have plans with lilvietchik2003, not sure you’d want to go there that many times.
Oh i wanted to do organisational psych, only i couldn’t get in so i had to wonder around elsewhere. but you know although psychology is really interesting i’m not really sure if i want to practice it. let’s just say i’m going through quarter life crisis atm.
@Roadlesstaken -
haha no. I’m pretty obsessed with hello kitty, so I go to anime conventions to buy anything hello kitty I can. and all my friends go so it’s fun to hang out with them. My friends started a joke though. Sometimes we all dress up in black and take pictures, and people ask us what anime we are from and we made up a name, and told them it’s coming soon in 2009. So we dress up together sometimes. And I love going to the anime convention in Baltimore. Over 26,000 people went last year!! And in va beach there really is jelly fish everywhere
i am in for HK anyday (LOVE that place!)….providing you paid my way there! haha
aww, i hate when i lose important things; i don’t understand how i can be that careless about something expensive, you know?
i too lost my new camera at the kennedy space center…but, um, i was in middle school at the time…and it definitely wasn’t digital back in that day! lol
HAH! you lost your new camera after a month?? I lost my new camera after a week when i went to NY XDD lawl.
And sounds like you had a good year. =]
Miss ya homie!
@cokaholic -
DC is on the East Coast, near the middle. It’s in between New York and Florida if that helps haha. Washington DC is the capital of the United States, so there’s plenty to see and do there. I don’t mind going to DC multiple times. It’s not too far away from me, and I’ve been meaning to see more of it. It would be fun to check it out with you.
Ah the quarter-life crisis…so what are you thinking about doing now for a living?
@Shopgirl0393 -
How about we go half and half
. Haha, so are you from the DC area?
@XxFtbllGrlxX -
Haha yes, I remember you telling me that. Made me feel a little better, but not really =P
Miss you too. Way to hang out with me before you left! Haha nah, from the looks of things you’ve been pretty busy. Just remember me if I ever decide to visit Antigua! Looks like a great vacation spot.
Wow, that sucks that you lost your camera. Every time I think I lose my things, they always turn up, luckily, hehe.
Like once, I was at this bar, I had set my camera down at the table and turned away for a split second and it was gone. I was soooo pissed. It turns out one of my friend’s friend’s nasty friend stole it and I got it back a week later.
Another time, my roommate tried to steal my camera. She knew I was looking for it and I asked her if she saw it, to return it to me and she would. So when she was out with her friends one night, I looked through her drawers and she had it the whole entire time. I was so mad but didn’t act like it though since I still had to live with her for a bit…It was a good thing she moved out, though, LOL, a few days later. She was the one that made things awkward by stealing my camera. She claims she was going to give it back, but I don’t see how or when she was going to give it back before I found it.
For your dream job, I also got turned down at my dream job =/. To get me by for some college money, I had always wanted to work with the IT group for $10 an hour part time, but they turned me down, too. Ugh.
Hey you play tennis, too? I did, too, but in high school. LOL. I only made it on the less than JV team, haha. I’m better at table tennis and basketball.
suchh a good idea for a xanga entry! ur a single lady just like mee!! yayy! lol
@whatsupyeh -
Geez, your camera sure had it own adventure!
Mhmm, love tennis! Part of the reason why I started the tennis club at my school. I love playing table tennis too! Strangely, I have a stronger backhand than forehand in table tennis, but a much better forehand than backhand in tennis.
@BigSarah -
Haha wait what? I ain’t a single lady!
@Roadlesstaken -
Nope, I’ll forget you every time you decide to visit Antigua. ^^ <333
I’m sure you’ll have more things to look forward to in 2009.
@Roadlesstaken - oh yeh i know what ur talking about. the thing is, i’m going to new york first and then i’m flying to LA, so i don’t really think i will fly back to new york after LA. Damn, would have loved to hang out with you. hahaha. at least i won’t stand out as much if i had a local with me. but u know ur more than welcome to come to new york, haha.
Hmmm i’m not really sure what i wanted to do, i wanted to do market research initially cause so many of the skills learned in psychology could be transferred in market research but its such a boring job and the market is so niche. Who knows. . . like i say i’m spontaneous so i’ll do what life and chances take me to.
Nice. If only I had the patience to make a list like that, or keep up with my blog in general. Now I just keep Xanga to read up on stuff.
I’m a regular reader of Datingish, and I’ve always liked what you’ve had to say in your comments, but I’ve never really read your blog, much less commented on it, so this is a first. *shrug*
Anyway, hope 2009 turns out fantastic for you, mate.
- John
congrats on graduating!
i’d love to go to hk one day! haha :]
@ladyofthesilk -
I’m sure I will, I just wish I had a clearer picture of what’s in store for me because as of now, my life can still go in numerous directions depending on how things pan out. Hmm…
@xOxMangOMadnessxOx -
It’s a lot of fun! Great food and shopping too, so if you like that stuff I’m sure you’ll love it there.
@cokaholic -
Hmmm interesting….I may take you up on that offer depending on what I’m doing when you come to the US. Maybe send me a private message later and we’ll see what’s up.
Market research eh? I never really thought of that option. Maybe I should look into that as well.
@The_Aftershock_3650 -
Oh man, it took a while to finish this post up, but in the end it felt good putting it all down. Try it sometimes when you’re up for it
Datingish is a fun little site, no? I always find something over there entertaining to comment on. Do you normally comment there as well?
Thanks for choosing to come by my blog btw. Look forward to seeing you over here more often. Happy New Years!
@Roadlesstaken -
That’s what makes life so exciting… not knowing where it will take you.
@Roadlesstaken -
hahah, i AM half and half! i have family in HK, in fact!
i’ll have to think on that offer…very tempting, for sure! and the space center in FL is where i lost the cam…but i go to DC all the time–half my family lives up there! was just there last week, in fact. lol
@Roadlesstaken - excellent i will inform you closer to the date. do you use any form of online messenger?
@Shopgirl0393 -
Haha oh really? Half what half what? Since you have family in HK, I’m guessing one half is Chinese, no?
Ah okay, I was thinking of the one space museum in DC for some reason. DC is very close by to me, but I still haven’t seen everything yet. Need to get on that.
wowwwww youre life = me jealous xD
well my 09 well be somewhat like yours ^^
im graduating high school
going to thailand, japan and laos<3
and going off to college
ahahaha
@Roadlesstaken -
So, I found the patience to do it, hah. Man, I found a bunch of memories I forgot I had. I’m definitely glad I came across this post, lol.
- John
@xJanetirax -
Haha what’s to be jealous about? I’m sure you do similar things, and apparently you will be traveling a lot next year. I’m jealous that you’re going to Japan! That’s one place I was suppose to go but didn’t. One day soon I will go, hopefully.
hehe i dunno, you did so much this year! i’m just jealous =P i loooove japan, so awesome! i cant wait to go back! we should go together LOL
@Roadlesstaken -
What an awesome year for an awesome person! You have your entire life ahead of you and it must be really exciting. Don’t worry about a girlfriend. You have so much to offer someone. Don’t settle for less than your expectations!
@xJanetirax -
Haha perhaps. You would be able to show me around because I know I would be lost over there.
@watersedge62 -
Thanks, I’ll try to remember that whenever I think about girlfriend stuff in the future haha. Was my year really that good? I think landing my dream job would have made this year much more better. Stupid economy!
@Roadlesstaken -
You will get there! I live in Central Florida and real estate is picking up here! That is a good sign! Keep your chin up. You will find a great job. Companies will be looking for someone bright like you!
awww what a cool entry =) seems like you had a good year!
Thanks for the encouraging words – I really hope I don’t take 2 years though. I’m too old for that lolll if I take two years I’ll be doomed in finding a potential husband before I’m a hag.
he he awww ^^
@Roadlesstaken -
@Roadlesstaken -
you would be correct in your assumption. my other half is a mix of mostly german and some english/italian…i’m a mutt, basically!
yes yes, get on that! i mostly visit fam/friends when in DC, but i really want to see all the cultural side of DC…the museums, downtown, monuments, etc.
@jeNNi_RoX -
Haha oh be quiet, you’re so not gonna be a hag in two years. Still, I hope it doesn’t take you that long as well. It was…a process, to say the least.
your hits greatly out weight your misses. Now I wish I had traveled more in 2008…
@xxpoetry_in_motionx -
Yea, I think overall I had a decent year. However, my biggest misses carried a lot of weight with them. I’m definitely still feeling the bad effects of those.
I love to travel now! Wish I had a lot of money so I can just do that for a few months straight.
My best friend is from Hong Kong. I want to go there some day, but for now, I’m in the process of learning some Cantonese.
i really think i should put out a list like this..but im almost afraid to do it
@RoidBear -
It’s a wonderful place. Great shopping and perhaps the best tasting, most fresh food I’ve ever ate. Haha why you trying to learn Cantonese, so you can communicate with your friend that way? I’m in the process of getting better at my Canto. Reading and writing is the hardest thing for me. I can understand pretty well and speak okay though.
@mi1kandcerea1 -
What are you afraid of?
@Roadlesstaken -
I love Chinese food, but only the REAL Chinese Food! I’m trying to learn Canto so that I can communicate with him in both English and Canto. He already understand Spanish since he is just like another brother to me, and he eats at my house all the time. Plus, it would be cool communicating with his family in Canto!
@RoidBear -
That would be cool. You could also understand all the gossipy things his aunts would say haha.
@Roadlesstaken -
Hahahahaha

@AzureRecollections -
I wonder how 2009 is gonna top 2008, in terms of world events. So much happened this past year! I think we’ve got spoiled in terms of sports (i.e. Olympics, Superbowl, best tennis match ever).
@jeNNi_RoX -
You could always become a milf…haha.
@kc_sarah -
Ah so you’re still around. What have you been doing all winter break? Must be keeping somewhat busy.
@Roadlesstaken -
Well, i could think of a way it could top 2008, in a bad way. But lets not jinx anything… But speaking of Tennis, I have a coil of Wilson hollow core tennis strings that I got for free as a sample. I don’t even play Tennis. Is it any good? =/
@AzureRecollections -
Yea I can think of some bad ways as well, but let’s not think about those things for now haha.
Hollow core? Hmm, is it called something else on the label? Also, can you tell if it’s synthetic gut or some other material?
@Roadlesstaken -
Yup, synthetic gut, with air filled hollow core. I mean, how much difference does strings actually make?
@AzureRecollections -
At the beginner’s level probably not so much, but it makes a HUGE difference as you go from intermediate and higher. Depending on the string tension, material, and gauge size it really greatly effect your feel, comfort, control, spin, and/or power.
Synthetic gut is the typical type of strings most people use, so it probably wasn’t too costly. Now, if it was polyester or kevlar material then that’s a whole other story haha.
