If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion… love actually is all around
Sorry I’ve been away for a few days. The holidays, work, as well as playing with my new iPhone and Rock Band 2 have been giving me plenty of distractions
.Christmas was at once not special and special this year. My family didn’t set up Christmas decorations nor a Christmas tree, and we also didn’t give out wrapped presents this year. Perhaps it was laziness or maybe we just aren’t big Christmas spirit people. Nonetheless, we still got each other presents. I got my parents new tennis rackets, got my brother Rock Band 2, and I got myself the iPhone with the money I received from family and relatives.
The thing that surprised me was that the best thing that came from Christmas day was when my parents, my brother and I all went out to the local tennis courts to play tennis as a family. We rarely get together nowadays like that, so it was so refreshing. I don’t know why that memory puts a big smile on my face, but it really does.
I had to get up at 4:45am for work the day after Christmas, so I got ready for bed by 8pm and watched Love Actually right before sleeping. You know, I think I’ve actually (har har) watched Love Actually around Christmas every year recently.
Is it super cheesy, sappy, and completely unrealistic at times? Hell yes! However, it’s also amazingly hilarious and a great feel good holiday rom-com movie that I can watch over and over again. It has a great cast and many awesome cameos, as well as a fantastic soundtrack. For a rom-com, the movie was surprisingly very crass with a lot of adult jokes that could almost rival certain Judd Apatow comedies. Funny enough, I can also relate to a lot of the self-deprecating ways of a lot of the characters in this movie. I definitely have had silly arguments with myself outloud while walking away from something I wish I could have done differently.
I’ll admit I’ve had quite a few influences from this movie. I noticed I’ve started to say “right” and “rubbish” more often than before. And of course, I may have “borrowed” ideas from one particular character in this movie.
Shhh, don’t tell the movie producers!I know it’s not the perfect movie. It runs pretty long and I wish they could have shortened or cut out a few of the subplots, but overall the movie really works for me. My favorite story has to be between Jamie (the writer) and Aurelia (his Portugese housemaid). That entire plot is so hysterical and romantic (although even I think that ending was way too overtop haha).
This scene rocks me each time, especially the last part:
[neither understands the other's language]
Jamie: [in English] It’s my favorite time of day, driving you.
Aurelia: [in Portuguese] It’s the saddest part of my day, leaving you.Yeah, I think I’m gonna keep the tradition of watching Love Actually near Christmas each year. It has way too much charm to it that I can’t stop. As the little boy Sam says in the movie, “Let’s get the shit kicked out of us by love.” Sure, why not? (don’t answer that btw
)

I’ve never watched Love Actually! I have to check it out.
My parents have gotten lazy about the tree/decorations too. We did have dinner though. To me time together is a real luxury and creates lasting memories =) And that is what Christmas is about right?
ya. i think i watch Love Actually for 2 years straight in Decembers. but anyway, anyhow i still love it no matter how many times they rerun it. urgh, i’m a sucker for simple-yet-out-of-this-world-sappy romantic movies.
It’s one of my favorite movies. I love it!
Haha, the first time I watched it, I was like, “This movie doesn’t really have much of a plot. Or it has too many. Whatever.” But I watched it a second time and then I realized that it’s really cute and even though the plot wasn’t exactly great in development, I still enjoyed it for the small stuff. But yeah, I think I may watch it next Christmas just to get into the holiday spirit

check it out immediately! it’s one of my most favorite rom-coms.

You’re not the only sucker around here
. I almost forgot how funny the movie is! It’s always the sappy stuff that get the most attention.
@sw33tlyd -
Same here! It’s one of the few movies I can watch over and over again.

I still think it has wayyyy too many subplots going on haha. I wouldn’t have mind it if they had cut out the girl w/ the mentally ill brother.
I saw that movie a long time ago. I’ll have to watch it again now. I wish I was gutsy enough to get the shit kicked out of me by love, haha.
That scene was so great! ARGH! I need to see that movie! *sigh*

It’s actually pretty easy to do. Just think and do things you don’t normally do; that’s how love mess with you haha.
@BrandNubian -
There are tons more scenes like that throughout that movie. I HIGHLY recommend you check it out then! Go go go!
@charmed1alwayz -
What’s wrong w/ your holiday so far? Aren’t you having a good time in Egypt?
@makethemakersmile -
Haha yea, Natalie was great. I love that play scene. One of the kids had Spiderman facepaint on! wtf??
@B1ANCACACA -
Go for it! One of my favorite movies that I could watch anytime.
LOL, what a coincidence! I watched Love Actually for Christmas too.
@SMhopeful -
It’s good stuff huh? I think everyone should watch it at Christmas
I LOVE Natalie and Aurelia!
We watch it and The Grinch every year on Christmas Eve!
@Lulabell_88 -
Haha nice. Yea, normally I don’t find girls that cuss a lot very attractive, but Natalie brought that charm out just right
You need your man card revoked.
haven’t even heard of it…O.O i’ll go check it out.
@Agent_Eric -
Perhaps just one of my cards.
I LOOOVE this movie. It is sappy as hell, but i love how the characters are all connected
It’s the perfect christmas chick flick
“Love Actually” is such a sweet movie! I love it!
@roooosah -
Indeed. It’s hilarious to boot. Love that crazy old man.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!
@rhetorical_soul -
One of mines as well. I like you! ^_^
@Roadlesstaken -
I like me too! ^__^
I meant. .. I like YOU too, haha
@rhetorical_soul -
Yay =)
I remember in high school my friend swore by this movie. Of course, it was one of those pictures I’ve taken a quickly suppressed interest in. Romantic movies and chick flicks just aren’t my thing really, but I didn’t want to go apeshit about this movie, assuming I’ll secretly like it =P. However, my bias overlooked a fantastic cast. I’ll try not to procrastinate in renting this soon.

It has a crazy big cast filled with a lot of great actors and actresses. It even had tons of random cameos by famous American actresses haha. Even without the romance stuff I found this movie incredibly hilarious. There are a lot more raunchy jokes in this movie than I initially would have thought. Hope you like it.
LOVE ACTUALLY is one in my three favorite movies. i like all stories in it and how the production and stories were knitted together. happy 2009, bro! reading your year-ender blog post, i’d say good things topped your “missed” things. we all look forward to a better 2009. cheers! and congratulations in your graduation with distinct honors.
@ajaw -
Thanks a lot! Yea, Love Actually, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Zoolander are three movies I can watch over and over again without getting bored.
my other two movies are: INDEPENDENCE DAY & The TEN COMMANDMENTS hehe… they come in different genres
LOVE ACTUALLY IS *SUCH* A GREAT MOVIE.
I love it. I feel the subplots are kind of important too ’cause they all show a different type of relationship and a different “type” of love.
@Imnotcrazyjustinsane -
True true, but they could have still maybe cut out at least one subplot to make the movie less than 2 hours haha. Idk but for me, I wasn’t feeling the Laura Linney subplot w/ her brother and that office guy. It seemed to have one of the least connections with the other stories, so I wouldn’t have mind that just being a part of the delete scenes section.
