My Xanga Personality
Since I’ve gotten quite a few new visitors checking out my silly little blog, I decided that I should write up a post to tell you guys a little about myself and how I use Xanga.
I’m going to guess most of my recent subscribers found out about my page through either A) Datingish, B) my Twilight review post or C) my recent relationship post . Were there any other ways you found out about my site? Apparently me being featured on the home page has also garnered a lot of uh, additional attention.
Brief history. I left Livejournal and started writing in Xanga around 2003. The main purpose of my page was just to write down thoughts as I go about my simple life. I always thought that it would be interesting to read my old posts in the future and see how much I’ve change and grown up. Before this year, I had merely a few friends on Xanga, and they were all pretty much people I knew in real life.
I was fine with that, and as much as I appreciate the increase of readers I would still be happy if I just have as many readers as I did before. I still write about generally the same things: things that go on in my daily life, my thoughts, my dreams, funny musings, random reviews, picture blogs, etc. If people like what I write, then good! If not, no biggie. The main big thing that increased readers have done for my site is that it has given me more reason to update regularly. In the past, I would just write whenever, usually not more than once a week. I’m now trying to update every 2-3 days or so.
Recently, I’ve began noticing a lot of my habits and general feelings with certain aspects about Xanga:
Comments/eProps. Like I mentioned before, I write for myself so comments aren’t as big of a deal for me. For the longest time, I was used to getting maybe one comment per post I made and was perfectly happy with that. That being said, I do feel good when I get a lot of comments, but I’m not going to fret if I don’t get 39534321 comments on each post I make. I have pretty low standards; as long as I inspire at least one person to leave a comment, I’m fine.
Comments goes both ways. I typically try to reply to most comments I receive if they’re meaningful and/or open-ended enough. Of course, it’s kind of hard to reply to shorter comments that just say “I agree!” or something like that, but I still appreciate them all the same.
I also try to read most (if not all) of my friends/subscriptions, although it’s getting a bit harder to do with my increase amount of Xanga friends/subscriptions (not that I’m complaining…
). If the post I read was good or I have something to comment on, I will comment with something with substance. I don’t want to just leave one/two word comments because that almost feels like I’m just commenting just to get the other person to comment back, which isn’t my intention. I’m commenting just because I feel like it.
Recs. I’ve noticed that I don’t really recommend other posts as often as I see some other people do. Part of it is because I just forget about that option, but usually the reason is because I don’t want to recommend every post I see or else my recommendations become meaningless. I found that when I do recommend a post, it means I really enjoyed it and think that it’s relevant for a lot of my Xanga friends to read.
You also will probably not find me asking you to please recommend my post anytime soon. If you do end up recommending me, then great! I feel that if people recommend my post without me asking them to, it puts more value in their recommendations.
Timestamps. I know that other people might have different opinions on this (am I right, Miss BrittMiles27 ?), but I generally don’t change timestamps once I made an entry. I’ll admit that I’ve done it in the past, but that’s only if I had changed a significant part of the post.
Footprints. I don’t really care for a ton of footprints, but it’s always interesting to see who comes to my site and from where. I would randomly click on viewers as well, so I don’t mind people visiting my page that I don’t know.
Playlist. Yep, it autoplays (Not anymore! Thank you to makethemakersmile for pointing out it autoplays whether or not you scroll down.) It’s located at the bottom of my page if you want to check it out. I feel that the music I put in my playlist is a good sample of my music taste. Some songs I have are there because I dig the beat (i.e. When Did Your Heart Go Missing, I Wanna Love You Girl, Miss Independent) , but many are very love related (i.e. Unbelievable, Chasing Cars, Collide). Hey, what do you expect from a hopeless romantic?
P.S. Big kudos to megaxgurls2 for introducing me to Inevitable. I still can’t stop listening to it!
Pulse. I’m starting to use this option more and more to talk about spur of the moment things that don’t warrant a whole entry. This is probably where you will get a lot of glimpses of my daily life happenings, as well as random thoughts.
What I like about being on Xanga. Honestly, I’m really starting to find myself addicted to Xanga because of all the interesting new people I’m getting a chance to know and read about. I am a psychology major, so I’m very interested in seeing different people’s perspective on life and how their perspectives relate to mine.
*Note: Get ready for a storm of random shoutouts coming up. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.*
It’s so great getting to know people from all over the United States, whether they be from Wisconsin, California, or even if they’re a crazy girl from Texas
. It’s also fun getting to know people from all over the world, such as Canada, Malaysia, and Finland. I also appreciate getting to know folks from near my area, such as some people who are setting up a DC Xangan meet up.
Xanga has also allowed me the chance to read about such fun things like the random rants of a professional student & home health nurse, one person’s adventure in trying to date Mr. Sushi, a girl that thinks there should be more white girl/Asian guy couples (you exist?
), the musings of a one-eared batman, or simply someone that write fantastic, well written poems and insightful stories.
I’ve even started to know quite few of you to the point that I wouldn’t really call you strangers anymore. We’ve definitely talked about some personal things that I appreciate you for trusting me with.
Of course, I can’t forget about my real life friends that still update and read my blog. You know who you guys are.
So there you go! I hope this entry gives you all a better idea of what type of Xanga person I am. Feel free to comment and chat with me sometimes new viewers! It’s always fun getting to know new people.
Question. I am curious about something that I hope some of you can answer. What reasons do you have for reading my humble little blog? Do you find me interesting? Weird? Smart? Dumb? Funny? Hot (or not…
)? What about my blog attracts you?
Comments (164)
What attracted me about your blog was that your words kinda called to me I guess? I think you’re a pretty attractive guy but I don’t think thats what really drew me in. You’re a pretty interesting person. You talk about things that I wanna know about, and you have a good sense of humor :]
Haha this post makes sense. As I kept reading it, and saw your shout out (haha), my heart stopped! Thanks
Your blog is pretty interesting, I like it. You have a sense of humor so yeah, you’re funny! I look forward to reading more posts
Oh and, you already know how I feel about whether you’re hot or not, lol.
I like your blog…i too like to read different perspectives they are intersting…although i dont comment all the time. But i do enjoy a good read.
Hope you will be able to make the DC meet. I am not too sure of the turn out but there should be some cool people there for sure.
First off, thanks for the shoutout.
I didn’t come to your blog because I thought you were attractive. I think you’ll be happy to hear that. lol I liked your blog because you just seemed like a really normal down to earth person that would be cool to talk to. I like talking with people that I think might inspire original thoughts in my head. (I’m a writer if you didn’t know.) Your profile pic was different when I first saw you. I can’t remember how I found your site though. I wish I could. It must have been through a comment on someone else’s site or something.
Asian people are just awesome I guess. Well usually. I’ve known a few in real life that were pretty cool too.
I dont even remmember why clicked on your name in a first place? maybe it was a twilight blog? dont remember:D and what keeps me reading your blog is You write to your self. I like that kinda blogs.. it is different. it’s not like xangacelbs blog, they are funny but i think they are writing partly for entertaining purpose.
Now let me present my random thoughts : I so agree with you on comment/eprop part. Wath happened to “I was a psychology major” part? you change your major?
Hahah first i thought OH you know someone from finland and i clicked on the lick.. hahah Silly me.. ofcourse it was me.. you told it your self that i was the only one you knew from finland hehe..
silly me, silly me.
I think i had more questons but i forgot already..
so let wait for another time me to remember.
@indiechaos -
That’s cool that you feel my blog calls to you. Didn’t ever expect my blog to become something like that.
@pretendX -
Aw yay! You need to spread the word out! Definitely need more girls like you out there.
@CiaoBella810 -
I really really want to go. It will depends on whether or not I get scheduled to work that day at my new job . Hopefully I’ll find out for sure soon.
@one_eared_batman -
Haha thanks. I like reading your blog too because you write about things that interests me. As far as Asian folks, I think they’re just like other races; there are some cool awesome ones, and then there are some stupid assholes ones out there haha. I try to gravitate towards the former.
@tweeny_tear -
Yup, you’re the first Finland person. Kinda funny that you don’t look anything like I thought a person from Finland would look like haha.
Ooo thanks for pointing that out! Nah, I’m still a psych major. I’ll go fix that now.
lol I clicked on your xanga because of datingish, and then found probably the longest, most detailed and organized xanga entries I’ve ever seen my entire life. I thought to myself, how on earth does someone have so much to say? so then i decided to read one haha. That’s cool you were a psych major! I’m one right now :]
hey hey, i already talked to you about this yesterday. i hope you remember instead of forgetting!
oo Shiet. Psychology!? I was going into that major.. Til I had to wake up and realize that I wasn’t going to get support from that. I went from Psych Major to Sociology to Nursing. I love Psych tho.
I use everything I’ve learned on my friends. And it totally works. Love it.
Pulse is easy to use and I love using it. I guess from your blog I like the guy’s perspective on things I like. :]
oh yeah. Once Xanga had the new features like Messages & This little thing & easy Modifications instead of Look&Feels.. I just got more into it. Ihad my first xanga since ’03. I had a LJ. But It’s just not as addicting as Xanga.
haha what do you mean i dont’t look like Finn ofcourse i don’t look like whitie if my genes are from asian.
although I am normaly whiter than my other asian friends. LOL
@jeNNi_RoX -
Really? Hmm, they have been longer than usual as of late. Maybe I should cut them down a bit haha. Psyc is fun
@kc_sarah -
To be honest, I think part of my inspiration to write this post was from our talk yesterday, so credits to you!
@SUGARCANEkitty -
Yup, psychology is fun and really is the best fit for me. I can’t wait until I get my masters in I/O psychology and start making some bucks!
LJ is pretty much dead now. I still go just to check out the communities though.
hello you, hahaa i told you how and why I came upon your blog through that ahaha kinda embarrassing random message but hey! if it counts, i think you’re cool. HAHA, and four christmas was okay, a typical funny predictable festive movie, but everyone needs a festive movie to get themselves into the mood no? HAHA anyways, i should sleep. Have an awesome day! much love, amanda.
thanks for mentioning me
<3
and haha yea, i work at GameStop so it’s kind of like….WHOOO GAMES! But i’m more PC person ya know?
AAHHH and now i remember what i had to say.
you are from DC?
@rufflesamanda4 -
Ah good to hear, perhaps I’ll check that movie out on DVD if not in theaters.
@MegaxGurls2 -
You work at Gamestop? Haha you must get a lot of attention when you’re working then
.
@tweeny_tear -
Yup, in my head I pictured some white European looking person. I’m not from DC, but I’m close by it. I live in Maryland and DC is about 45 minutes away from me.
I think it was a datingish post that got me reading yours posts. lol I think I read a lot of your entries because they are everyday entries of someone’s life. It’s nice to read about what people are going through because a lot of people I know are not as open.
And now that I know you’re a psychology major, I should start editing my posts LOL jk ^_^
AUTO PLAY SUCKSSS (though, for some reason, it loads very slowly here)!! IT’S DROWNING OUT MY EMO LINKIN PARK! HELLO?!
You left livejournal in 2003? ;w; You sad, sad, penguin.
Sad sad sad.
I just come to Xanga once in a while to read 3 journals.
Feel special you’re one of them. >:P
lol..i came to ur blog after u post that comment that really made me dont think its possible to do !! the one u wrote about not finishing what you started….
@InlUvWiTuRsMiLe -
It’s definitely a balancing act. I feel what I write is pretty open, but at the same time I’m not very open about certain things and details. What details? Well maybe you can find out in the future haha
@thepenguinishere -
Of course I feel special, thank you Walle! I mean, Hiroko
@s_h_a_sha -
Oh man, I should know this but I’m totally blanking out! Can you refresh my mind?
I just like the datingish post. I agreed with the list you made even though I thought 2 and 4 were a bit mushy, although I have to admit that I’m not in a relationship and that’s about the only time I can stand mushy things.
The Transporter review was not quite my thing, but I thought you might return to the datingish type of post later on. I go through phases on the type of things I blog about.
I think you’re rather silly and kiddish. In a good way, of course.
And I honestly have no idea how I got to your site. Probably a comment of yours or whatever.
Although, I seriously wonder if you ever get creeped out by random comments from random people(me).
I started a Xanga 2 months ago because I just wanted to write down my thoughts and daily happenings. I’m not a great writer or poet. So I like to read blogs about other people’s days and just simple things. When I came to your page I noticed you listened to the same music that I listen to (you have good taste by the way
) and you like tennis, and you’re just a person writing about your day as well. So I thought I’d subscribe.
@grinner08 -
Same here. Yea, I think my blogs gonna be mixbag for you because I try to write about whatever. I would write more relationship related ones, but I’m afraid certain people I know might read about it.
@x_onholiday -
I don’t get creep out. If you’re respectful to me than I’m respectful to you
@skillusionz -
I seriously don’t think I’m a great writer either, but I try my best to keep my post as readable as possible. Thanks for stopping by!
hahahaha….totally dropped by your page cause i read the post on datingish:P well i think you’re pretty interesting. though i’ve only read a total of the entries on this current page and the one on datingish.
i don’t tend to subscribe to people on the spur of the moment (it’s only happened twice), so don’t feel offendended. i only subscribe after i’ve read a few entries. though from what i read, you probably won’t be too offended:D
hey…it’s not very common to have people acknowledge their new xanga celeb status and post an entry asking the new fanbase “personal” questions:P i think that’s interesting:P hehe
i like the playlist!:D
i personally don’t really like the black and white contrast….it hurts my eyes>.< but that’s just me:P hehe.
@sabbygurl -
Nah, I won’t be offended at all
. Xanga celeb? Haha I think I’m far from one. I’m just another guy that blogs who just happened to have some popular posts as of late. I’m sure it’ll die down.
What do you suggest for a color for my writing? Maybe I’ll sample it to see if it works better.
I love your playlist! Congrats on featured!
I liked the datingish post very much, so i followed it. I’m just curious about people, so I hope you don’t mind if I subscribed and pop in every so often.
what a fantastic post about being in a relationship.
(I’m responding to a different post)
it’s brilliant. –and beautiful.
I came across your blog when the Twilight review made frontpage. I guess you can relate to Edward in some ways, judging from the things you listed in your Datingish post, so I can see why you’re one of about 12 guys who like Twilight.
And I see an Anberlin song on your playlist! Also ‘Blower’s Daughter’ by Damien Rice, a song which I heard about from the movie ‘Closer’…props for having such great songs on your playlist.
Heh… I’m one of a crowd, apparently. But to answer your question – I first read your blog because of your post on Datingish. However, my interest was piqued once I read that you’re a Psych major (I have my B.S. in that and am working towards the M.A. in Mental Health Counseling.) Sooo – it’s always nice to find someone else who seems to find other’s minds interesting. Oh … and the hopeless romantic part… well, I find it intriguing to see guys who call themselves that – I like to see if they actually are. (Most of the time… it’s an oxymoron. But there are exceptions that I’ve met.) Anyway … nice blog.
Xanga is a great venue for expression and social interaction. What drew me to your weblog? Because you’re a road less taken ;P. I was browsing on the home page of xanga, and you were just happened to be at the top of the featured list
.
There’s something about reading into people’s lives that draws me in? I don’t know. Xangas just hold a place in my heart! I live to randomly roam the Xangan world. It’s vast and endless, it seems! I like hearing people’s perspectives on random things in life (not to say you’re random). Makes me sit and wonder about whatever issues are brought up. Makes for interesting reads! And yours is the one that I stumbled on most recently.
Hi Alex Chan–is that your real name? =P RE your comment–lol. I wrote that rant last night and then I came across your entry on the Featured Section on where else but Datingish! You have proved me wrong! I agree, datingish is one of the better “ishes”, but I am still not pleased. You have been here as long as I have so guess you have seen the transformations along with me. What I look for in fellow xangans: honesty, humour, and ability to capture the essence of daily live in an interesting way. Like you, I like to write to document where I am now, where I’ve come from, and set goals for the future. It is nice to look back sometimes, and I have met many nice Xangans who have followed me all the way through from 2003 to present–it is amazing that way. I have yet to really get to know you, but I do like your down-to-earth writing thus far–keep it up, and nice to meet you Alex Chan =)
@Peteismyhero -
Thanks! Oh man, I’m gonna be getting a lot more attention than I’m used to aren’t I?
@AzureRecollections -
That’s absolutely fine with me. Not all my post will be like the datingish post though, but I’ll try to keep my post entertaining enough
@thinkpinkpanther -
Aw shucks. It was okay. I don’t think I’m the best writer, just writing down what I was feeling at my heart at the time, which was a lot of nostalgia haha.
@tenshii_rage -
There’s 12 guys reading Twilight?! Thats about 8 more than I thought…haha j/k. Hmm, Edwards alright, but sometime I feel he has way too much angst in him. I would rather be a Carlisle.
Thanks for the props to my playlist! Yea for a while I was absolutely in love with all things Damien Rice. Yea, his songs were very much on the emotional side, but they are so beautiful to listen to.
@Passionflwr86 -
I understand what you mean; there’s a difference between saying you are something and actually being that something. I’m definitely not perfect, but I’m striving to be the best person I can be
. Yay for psyc majors! I’m eventually gonna go to grad school to be an I/O psychologist.
@knzircon9 -
Oh I can definitely be pretty random. My post can jump around to being above movies one day than about my personal life the next. p.s. You’re not the only one that roam the Xanga lands randomly haha. It’s one of my favorite way of wasting time on here.
@lil_squirrel4ever -
Nah, my name is just Billy Smith. Haha seriously yep, Alex Chan is my name. There are way too many Alex Chans in the world, so I don’t mind saying my name on here. I’m glad you like my blog! Things have changed quite a bit haven’t they? Sometimes change can be a good thing though. I know I can’t read any of my really old posts because I sound like a whiney kid in high school haha. Nice to meet you too!
I came to your page thanks toa random click, but I think I’ll be coming back because you seem like you’ve got some things to say, and I wouldn’t mind listening!
I read your blog datingish posted and this, and I like the way you write a lot.
Subbed
i came to your xanga because of your datingish entry! i thought it was really cute and i wanted to read more of your ramblings (: lols. then i saw your from maryland? and i’m in d.c so i thought that was cute. hehe. i also liked your username. . roadlesstaken. i see your attracting a lot of girls now! haha.
If i have that many readers/comments i’ll be so overwhelm! lol. i enjoy reading your post on datingish and you made some really good points. btw, i love ‘she say’ by howie day ^^
i saw your blog as a featured blog and i thought that i should stop and read it. you’re a very talented writer and keep up the good work. i hope you don ‘t mind me saying this but you’re handsome ; )
I don’t really remember how we first started leaving each other comments; of course, I thought you were cute, AND you also had some interesting things to say! I’ve enjoyed all your entries. It’s hard to find Asian hopeless romantics! I hope to fall in love with one someday!
@AubbySilver -
Eh I got some things to talk about, but it’s probably about the same amount as anyone else. Haha I hope to see you back sometime then!
@CanadianConspiracy -
I’m glad you do! Just to warn you though; not all my post will be about relationships like that post haha.
@s0rair0 -
Cool, someone from around the area haha. Not that I mind people from elsewhere, but it’s cool to see a few people near by on Xanga as well. I like to think I’m attracting a lot of xanga users that just happens to be girls. Now if only it can translate to real life…haha.
@iamelin -
Um yea, I’m being quite overwhelm right now X_X . I’m trying to keep up with everyone but it’s so hard. I think I got 30+ subscribers ever since my post got featured! It’s crazy.
@applebottomjeans08 -
Not sure about the writer part =P , but thanks! And I don’t think any guy minds being called handsome haha.
@BomCamChuoi -
I don’t remember either; I think you or I commented on each other’s pages and it just kept going on. I’m glad it did though, because you have one of the funner pages to read. Go Asian hopeless romantics!
@Roadlesstaken -
Haha no that’s fine. I’m in a relationship so I don’t really need to hear about them all the time!
Looking forward to your next post though
@Roadlesstaken - just watch-your next entry is gonna’ be about a current relationship! bwahaha. i don’t even understand why you’re single. you sound romantic. ..at least from what you write! haha.
i`m also a psych major ;] . i took industrial/organizational psych last year. i would prefer working with kids which is why i enjoy developmental. heh.
@iamelin -
Forgot to say one more thing; you’re the first person that mentioned that song! Such a beautiful song that deserves just as much attention as his Collide song.
@s0rair0 -
I don’t understand it either. I have a theory that involves bad timing and location. If you want to hear more just private message me sometime and I’ll explain haha.
Wow what a coincidence, I was a developmental concentration in college! I don’t think I’m gonna go that route, but I was interested in looking for a child care part time job until I get into grads.
Hey found you at the datingish post, you’ve actually got me hooked into your blog entries cause you seem to write so well. Normally i don’t like reading long entries but your blogs are structured and so well written that i feel obliged to read the whole thing. Your blogs really gives a really good insight to how a typical guy perceives things especially in relationships, kinda makes me understand them a bit more which is something i probably lack.
it’s always interesting to see other people’s perspectives of the same world we all live in…
like many others, i read your featured datingish post
and
i really like your xanga name…it is somewhat intriguing.
i wonder where it originated from, especially in combination with what you’re wearing around your neck?
i feel like like your blog is just real, and i find you kinda funny, put-a-smile-on-my-face kinda way. don’t know how but its as if i knew you before…not for real cuz we’re so far apart but yea.. just the feeling tho. of a familiar friend. ^.^
@cokaholic -
I’m happy my blogs are easy readings for you! According to other folks, I apparently think a little different from some guys, so not sure I’m the best person to understand all guys haha.
@Shopgirl0393 -
I actually got the name from a popular Robert Frost poem “The Road Less Traveled”. I decided to just change the last word heh.
@Lesonja -
That’s actually the vibe I try to go for in my blogs! I’m glad it’s working on at least one person
I’ve discovered you through your comments at Datingish. What attracts me is the fact that your tone of writing is so friendly and genuine, never pretentious. There are only a few people I know on Xanga who write like that, all the time. I think it’s something special, and you stand out for it.
I came to your site via Datingish. I just started on Xanga several months ago. I have two accounts actually! You seem down-to-earth and blog about everyday things as I have started to do. I’m a psych major as well!
why i like reading your blogs?! – its always nice to know what’s happening in a friend’s life and its good to see if your comment can make their day or help them in any situation.. its not all about writing.. its how much your willing to share about yourself to draw them into your blog… i really do like reading your blog… you are really active in all your blogging and in your response….you got the whole system down! ^^ && beside it must be the way/how you write your blogs… it has a lot of feeling in them as if you really wanted to share them.. instead of just writing whatever to impress others or get others to jump onto your page… so even if your blogging is so simple or so plain to you.. to others, like myself i find it so wonderful reading.. i have to say, reading your blogs and leaving you comments on them..has become a daily thing for me now…. i will have to at least come on once to just see and read what interesting thing you had to share for that day. Keep up the good work and yeah, i did see you on the front page! How awesome to have a xanga buddy on the front page! it do feel pretty good. “yeah, he’s my xanga buddy!!” hahaha.. but yeah, how’s your weekend and did you do anything fun for thanksgiving?? -v
@decembriel -
Oh really? I never thought about how pretentious my posts are, but good thing they aren’t. Thanks for your really kind comment!
@mysteriousromantic -
Whoa two accounts? Is one your secret diary? I thought about doing something like that one day just to write about all my love adventures and misadventures haha. Maybe someday I’ll write them here.
@Pur3_S3duction -
Thanks Va, that means a lot to me
. I update every 2-3 days so I hope you don’t expect something each day. p.s. By fun meaning having my tire blow up, then yes my Thanksgiving was tons of fun haha.
Ahhh…those songs on your blog, they are so niceeeeeeeeeeeee….
Its your innocent look that makes me click on your blog. HAHA.
@Roadlesstaken -
ha nice, and that one word “has made all the difference”!
@ILovePOOTPOOT -
Any particular songs you enjoy?
Innocent look?! Alright, gotta stop shaving and start looking angry in my photos now! Mwahahahaha
@Shopgirl0393 -
mhmm, you got it! love that ending.
@Roadlesstaken - hahaha.. you are funny alex! having your tire blown out for thanksgiving is something fun and not fun at the same time.. lolz its just how you looked at it… im sure when it happen it wasn’t too fun or funny but now when you think on it.. its pretty funny how you or the people around you handle the situation.. ^^ Ooo guess what happen when i was up in MN??! I swear i saw a guy who looked like you…. when he walked pass i was like.. “what, man that guy looks like alex from xanga!” — hahah i know its weird cuz we don’t even know how each other look in person but hey, with your picutre on your xanga is good enough to give me a good picture of how you look like.. so yup just thought to share that with you ^_^
@Pur3_S3duction -
What you talking about, that was me! Way to ignore me! Geez…haha
haha, i did read your post..i guess i just wasn’t thinking when i posted that weblog. c[:
And i don't even remember how we started talking but i like to read your posts cus you're an interesting guy and you seem really chill and real which is great to me. ;]
LOL oh great! Don’t shave! Christmas is coming! Grow some beard and keep Santa company! That poor guy is like the only one with such longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg BEARD.
Whatever it takes-Lifehouse (The lyrics says it all)
i like you black & white blog. we have the same color theme. hehe.
i’m more of a blogspot blogger though. but i maintain my xanga for bits of life’s lessons, hence, my xanga blog title. my blogspot (blog) is more personal though, and more updated regularly.
I stumbled upon your blog through Datingish. You write a lot of true, meaningful, and thought provoking entries that differ from the common updates of schedules and every day life. Many of them complaints (and I am guilty of that myself) or just random thoughts. Although yours are also random, I like how you delve deeper. It makes it interesting and fun to read.
@Roadlesstaken - what no way?! How awesome to have seen you but not met you.. lolz but yeah this blog seems to be pretty famous eh? i can really tell by all these awesome reader are jumping in and leaving their marks. how cool is this. -v
@Roadlesstaken - Yeah of course I can’t generalise all guy’s behaviors by just one guy. Remember in psychology you need to test the validity and reliability of a theory based on the sample size, power, error and so forth
sorry i was a psychology major too and i was a bit of a nerd in statistics.
because i never knew a guy could possibly think in the way that you expressed yourself in the datingish post.
bonus points because you’re kind of cute, obviously well-versed, and are from Hong Kong but don’t speak in broken English
@d_loves@datingish -
I think it was me who intiated first. I remember commenting on a post of yours a few weeks back. Good thing I did huh?
@ajaw -
I used to do that w/ LJ; my thoughful, meaningful, emotional posts would be on LJ while my Xanga would be my superficial blog haha.
@Aznswty7 -
Nothing wrong with complaining every once in a while; i certainly wouldn’t be surprise seeing that in blogs where people post down their thoughts. I used to do it a lot (especially when I was in high school), but I’ve simmered that down quite a bit.
@cokaholic -
Dork! Haha nah, I totally know where you’re coming from.
@unfathomablelove -
I’m actually from Maryland, but my parents did come from Hong Kong. I’m trying to get better at my Canto right now. Could be pretty useful in the future
I encourage you to try karaoke and learning the words in the lyrics of Chinese songs heh
I was born in Canada but karaoke was my means of becoming decently acquainted with reading/writing Canto
hahaa, yeah good thing… for you! hahaa, jk. c[:
so, no more LJ? i guess. i’d like to share my blogspot but some of its entries are written in Tagalog— one of the Philippines dialects.
Hello,
Great post on Datingish
Just wanted to leave a comment and say thanks for writing something interesting to read!
(Ohh and p.s. you have a fabulous playlist on your page! great tracks!)
Cheers & best of luck to you and finding that lucky girl !
@Roadlesstaken - This one is my secret diary lol. That’s why I have no pictures.
Oh! Np I’m going through some of the same things as well so it was really nice reading your post and being able to relate to some of the things you were saying! Haha yes, it can be quite addictive the first few times you listen to it or maybe its just me. lo
found your blog through the featured post on datinguish. honestly, if you hadn’t mentioned a song by anberlin, i might not have continued to read. =P i don’t write much myself, but i like reading what other people have to write. your style is quite refreshing; it’s relaxed and organized at the same time. not philosophical but still thought-provoking. =)
congrats on your new xanga celebrity. happy holidays~
I enjoyed your datingish entry and felt it paralleled my experiences~ although I feel that you haven’t lost that romantic spark in you while I still need a refresher
@Roadlesstaken - dork? hahaha how rude! just out of interest is there a ladies draught in Marylands or something? by reading your posts and looking at your picture (ok fine you’re not that half bad looking) there shouldn’t be a problem for you to find a girl. betcha your picky
. . . well too bad i live on the other side of the world from you otherwise i’ll definitely hook you up with my single gal friends
i linked here from the Datingish post. i find it weird how you have pretty much the exact same music taste as me… if only you added some radiohead to ur playlist haha.
hey how’s it going man? you don’t know me but i usually don’t comment new people’s profile for the sake of not being ignored lol, but i noticed you have a very kool playlist of different music genres and i gotta say i’m very impressed cause my music is pretty much mixed up like that everyday. It also says you like pop culture. I’m a fanatic of pop culture, but mostly 90s pop culture when i was just a kid coming up. Love the the tracks ”Let My Love Open the Door”, ”Black Balloon” and ”Over and Over”. Got neat taste.
I’m Darnell, 20, Chicago
Hey, you’re a DC-er like me which means you must be cool
No really, you’re funny and very insightful!
I’m trying to go through and read all the blogs that I can. I’m interested in other people’s live for some unkown reason to me. I’ve always been very curious about humans and the different ways we think, feel, and react to situations. I’m just a very curious person.
I’ve only just joined Xanga, but I have heaps of posts, mainly that I just shoved in when I was using other websites, so no-one’s gonna read my old ones. lol
But feel free to prod my life story as well. hehe.
xx
I actually came across your page from the Xanga homepage in the “Featured Weblogs” section. You were right there on top of the list, so I figured I’d swing by and read a bit. I liked what I read and I may just subscribe. lol You seem to be one of those real, WYSIWYG kinda guys and I think that’s what people like…but I can only speak for myself, right? =P
So yeah, thanks for providing we Xangans with some good stuff.
ur blog is interesting =) I like ur twilght review lol.
p/s: ur playlist is playing “I believe” now, it reminds me of korean dramas like winter sonata (totally irrelevant to this post, i know) =P
most important: seems thoughtful and considerate.
least important: seems cute (just an observation).
+ Snow Patrol! Ne-Yo! Good music.
I don’t know what I’d do if I suddenly had lots of readers. Being featured is on my list of NOT to dos.
Stay sincere. It’s the best quality.
Nice writing. Tchao!
@unfathomablelove -
My mom suggested that. I just need to learn how to read better! I’m very illiterate unfortunately. I wish my mom had forced me to go to chinese school when I was younger, like she’s doing w/ my little bro.
@ajaw -
Yea I stopped updating over there, although I still go check out the lj communities still. Haha yes, I’m familiar w/ Tagalog. There’s quite a few filipinos at my college.
@slowp0keee -
thank you, and if you happen to see that lucky girl first tell her to hurry up and get over here!
My reason is simple: you write well.
Plus, I dig your taste in music. I might make your page my personal radio station. haha!
@csbunnie87 -
Aw thanks for those nice comments. Hmm I never set out to make my blogs thought provoking, but if it does that’s pretty cool!
@Casa_blanca_lilies -
I actually thought I did lose that spark for a while, until recently when I attempted an old school romantic plan. Unfortunately it was an epic fail haha. I wrote about it in a private entry a couple weeks ago, but I’m thinking about making it public sometime soon in the future.
@cokaholic -
I think I’m picky in some ways, just because I know what I want after a few long term relationships. I actually have a theory on why, which I’ll probably write about in my next post (spoiler! =P) But yea, thanks for you trying to help. If I ever visit your parts maybe I’ll come to you for some connections haha.
@bumblebee123 -
Do we now? I don’t know many people that have my variety of music taste in my area, so that’s cool to hear! Do you have recommendations for any radiohead songs I should check out?
@TheCheshireGrins -
Thanks, I enjoy your posts as well! Btw, everytime you mention the Architect it reminds me of Ted on HIMYM.
@readyfortheworld1 -
Nice to meet you! I’m like you w/ pop culture in that most of my advance pop culture knowledge is 1998 and beyond haha. Glad you like my music choices! I’m always trying to discover new songs, so if you have any recommendations you should let me know sometime.
@MsDagger -
I’m pretty curious person myself. I’ll try to start checking out other people’s blogs (including yours!) after this rush of visitors dies down haha. I’m trying to continue my old habits, but it’s uh overwhelming to say the least.
@StrewnOutinDisarray -
You’re welcome
. Btw, what does WYSIWYG stand for (forgive my ignorance)?
@darth_cosmos -
I got that song from My Sassy Girl, that famous korean drama/comedy. I absolutely love that movie! I’m guessing you have probably seen it right?
@caller_ai_dee -
@caller_ai_dee -
Great comment. I think I like Snow Patrol and Ne-Yo too much (notice they’re overrepresented in my playlist? haha). Yea trust me, I definitely didn’t set out to be featured at all. It has it’s pluses and minuses to say the least.
@Krissy_Cole -
Thanks, although I still think you write a lot better than me
. Haha be my guess! That’s why the playlist is there!
heyo0o0o there =] -x-
Yup, saw you on Datingish. Your comments are usually pretty interesting.
Good music selection, btw! =)
Why would I read about you? Well…your honesty is appreciated and I think you echo alot of sincere people’s attitudes and dispositions towards their site. It gives their site much more credence since it’s not just mind numbing chat. In the time that I’ve been on Xanga (and I don’t post much to begin with), I must admit that I’ve seen many people grow on the site. So…who kows….you may have a following that will grow with you and you with them. Kinda cool when you think about it. A bunch of people…all over the place who share and grow. Liek they say…some of the best things are kept simple. Keep it simple and true to yourself. What’s not to like about that.

incase u were looking
@Oh_so_YANNY_x3 -
Hi, thanks for stopping by!
@xiaosnowtenshi -
Haha my comments are interesting eh? Is that a good or bad thing?
@semperfi03 -
I definitely seen the progression myself. It’s so funny seeing the things I used to write and care about.
@Roadlesstaken - Oh sorry, my bad! “what you see is what you get!”
I admit that I first visited your Xanga due to the post about what you miss in a relationship, but I remember seeing you comment on almost every single Datingish post. haha XD And then after I got to your Xanga, I read the Twilight post. haha
But anyway, I think that your posts and comments on Datingish consist of all of the above: interesting, weird (okay maybe not as much), smart, dumb (okay maybe not as much either), and funny.
It’s a nice combination.
OoOo interesting post that was on datingish. your personality seems pretty cool too. so i don’t think i’d mind checking out more of what u got. hehe. what got me to ur site was ur name… at first i thought it was roadles-staken. i was like, what kind of name is this? then i was like.. Oooooo road-less-taken. lol
Do you find me interesting? Weird? Smart? Dumb? Funny? Hot (or not…)?
I find you interesting, weird, smart, dumb, funny, and NOT HOT! Lol, j/k. I read your blog ’cause you’re a great friend =).
And I was the 100th comment! (and 101)
@StrewnOutinDisarray -
Ah of course! Alright, I’ll remember that acronym from now on.
@dUhGrL -
Haha what can I say, those Datingish post sure do inspire me to give my input.
@lilopinkie -
Hmm roadles-staken. That’s the first time I heard someone say it that way haha. Guess you were miSTAKEN (bad pun I know)
@d2H5b -
Ah, you broke my 100-ginity! Haha yes, I’m glad to have a friend like you. Now hurry up and stop updating again!
@Roadlesstaken - LOL nooo i like korean dramas too =P
i like your post, i think they’re very interesting and deep
compared to mine which are like blah blah blah.. lol but you’re an adult and i would understand why you post are full of depth =P
Quick get as many numbers as you can!
i tried looking for that moon from the window of my house afterwards… couldn’t find it >_<. it’s okay. i heard it’ll be back on feb 1st! lol
@Roadlesstaken -
I usually agree with them, so good. =p
@Roadlesstaken -
Do you mean “start?” lol
hmms.. i came to yur page becuz i read yur blog (: && youu looooook attractivee (:
@xJanetirax -
An adult? Geeez, way to make me feel old…haha j/k.
@Agent_Eric -
Been there, done that =P. Want half?
@izzyxD -
Excellent…I’ll check it then.
@d2H5b -
Ummm yes, that’s what I meant haha.
@lazygrlx3 -
Aw thanks chica!
lol! well i’m sorry xD, of course you’re not old xD i’m only 17 and i feel old! ahaha
btw, you are pretty hott xD LOL
As much as I like your musical tastes, I don’t like it when people have their playlists on autoplay. It is a distraction
@xJanetirax -
haha thank you, I appreciated the compliment =)
@UltimaZez -
You’re right, it is a distraction. I like to think that since I put it down at the bottom of my page, people wont listen to it unless they really want to, since you have to scroll all the way down there to start the autoplay.
Well, I’ll be honest, I came across your page from the xanga homepage. I’ll definitely say the article you wrote on a what a nice guy really misses about an old relationship is exact to a T. It’s interesting to know their are kindred chilvarous gents like yours truly. So blog on, Roadlesstaken. The screen name suits you, sir.
-Johnny Seraphim
Hey, guess how I found your site.
Because I googled “robert frost road less taken”? You guessed it.
Nah, datingish. Cheeeeeesy, but endearing post. =]
I like that you write intelligently and aren’t afraid to discuss what’re normally considered “feminine” topics (e.g., Twilight. Btw, I’m a Twihard!). I also don’t get a sense of overwhelming “I’m a man. Let me prove it”-ness from you. I think I’ll be subscribing and reading more. Looking forward to it.
P.S. HOW IN LOVE AM I WITH YOUR MUSIC TASTE?!
[end fangirlism]
I, like a lot of people, I think, ran across your guest blog from datingish when it was featured on the home page. I like your writing style. We have a lot in common, and you seem like a fairly nice guy. Keep writing and I’ll be in touch.
Peace and love, J.
@Johnny_Seraphim -
No thank you sir! Your comment was wonderful and I’m glad you’re one of my new viewers
@xLove_Me_Alwaysx -
Hmm well I gotta say that’s a different way of finding my blog than others out there haha. Urgh, one of my female friends was busting my balls yesterday about some of the cheesier parts of the post. Oh well, don’t regret writing it.
Hmm, I never really thought about whether my topic was feminine or not. Granted, Twilight may have been a topic that more girls talk about, but in my mind I think most guys have relationship thoughts and nostalgia.
@Piano_Man_85 -
Thanks, I try to be as nice and respectful of a person as I can be without going overboard in such a way that people take advantage of me. Glad to have you reading my blog! Hope you continue digging what I write about.
I think you’re a cool person just by reading your blog. and I’m touched when you said your okay just knowing that you have touched someone with your blog.
regarding your datingdish post:
you hopeless romantic junkie.
don’t change. but be patient. the right girl will indeed come along. and enjoy single times because one day you might run into the longest long term relationship and then you might sit back wondering what happened to the past. enjoy the moment now
You have a beautiful way with words. I guess you can consider me to be one of those people who randomly came across your site. Lets be friends?
@Barby_debbie -
It’s true. I’m starting to feel like a broken record by now I bet haha, but I totally did not expect this post to garner so much attention and affect so many people. It’s quite crazy.
@brownize221 -
Yea, I think you nailed it with that first statement =) . I guess I’ll enjoy single life for now, but it sure gets lonely. Doesn’t help when I see other couples. Ah well, I’m good at being patient. Sorta.
@KittiexKissesx3 -
Beautiful way? Never really thought of my writing as that. I just write the way I think haha. Yea I’m gonna slowly go through my friends requests soon. I’m kinda overwhelmed at the moment X_X. If I keep seeing you pop up on my blog posts I’ll definitely make sure to friend you back sooner rather than later
your music autoplays weather you scroll down or not…. fyi.
@makethemakersmile -
really?? doesn’t for me for some reason. Alright, I think I will make it not autoplay then. Thanks for letting me know!
Lol you mean in mine’s or your blog?
And I read your blog cause it was interesting to see from a guy’s point of view.
@ThewayIfeel_Writings -
Oh in yours, between [24] and [25]. My other friend has that picture as her xanga theme and I told her about that bear to. She had no idea it was there haha. Kinda trippy
I noticed it but not that carefully haha
You should write ranting blogs more oftennn
it’s pretty interesting to read people’s blog about opinions & stuff cause that’s different from what a lot of other people put on their xanga lol
i agree! =P
i think did find you through datingish. and just found your entries interesting :]
@Roadlesstaken - for sure dude
maybe it doesnt for everyone, it did for me. not anymore though. thanks for the shoutout
i can’t exactly remember how i came across your page but i really love the relaxed tone of your blog ^^
im michelle by the way, i’ve been reading your stuff for a bit now but i never introduced myself!
I came here because I really enjoyed your Datingish post, it presented a lot of agreeable things, given I pretty much went through the same thing recently. It was one of the few front page posts that was good. And for that, you get a comment and a footprint. I know how much you probably enjoy random comments from random guys. I mean, random girls might be more acceptable, but who needs social rules, right?
Oh, and How I Met Your Mother is totally awesome. I never work a Monday, purely to watch that show. Sad, or a Good Life Choice?
i just noticed that you had given me a shoutout. thanks, mr. popular
@mi1kandcerea1 -
Hi Michelle, I’m Alex nice to meet you
. haha yea I like reading your page as well. I’m surprise when people say I’m a good writer, because I think other users like you are much better than me.
@alcooo -
Actually, I wouldn’t mind having some more guy readers to give more of a guy’s perspective on things I write about. As you can probably see, my blog has a high proportion of female readers haha.
Btw, that’s absolutely a good life choice. I’m planning to not work on Wednesday nights soon so I can watch Lost
@kc_sarah -
Noooo problem missy
Like most others, I dropped in after reading your featured post on datingish. That post was interesting, humorous, and well, honest. Curious to see if you had any other posts with funny little stories and/or concepts, I dropped in, and well, here I am.
Thanks for being honest…and entertaining me ^^
@RciindiiR -
What do you think I am, your jester?!
Haha j/k. Thanks for coming by
@Roadlesstaken -
hmmm if you say so, you can be my personal jester.
–actually, i think of you more of an interesting person to listen to — your ideas and thoughts make me think a lot about my own life and well, of course, my past…
and, of course, i have to admit, finding a guy who is willing to speak his mind out loud – nice and clear for us to hear and understand – and announce to the world that you’re a “hopeless romantic” ….well that’s quite lovely; now i know that not only girls are hopeless romantics X]
-looking forward to your next post.
@RciindiiR -
Haha okay, I can dig that. p.s. my next post is already up!
@Roadlesstaken -
already read it. haha, it IS december 4th. so i’ve obviously read it already ;p
anyway, im off. i need to actually study for my tests ^^;;
I’ve read your blogs from Datingish and then I clicked and saw that you also posted a Twilight Movie review, your perspective is pretty interesting just by reading it, and you have a sense of humor in your posts.
i click on your site cause i found it interesting that a GUY was asking himself why he was still single and yes your attractive so i couldn’t understand that either. also while reading some of your old blogs i noticed your a huge movie buff is that the right word. you already listed one of my fav The holiday
so hopefully you won’t mind if i keep reading, so far i like what ive read about you and your travels.
@Hotpuppies -
You got it, I love my movies
. Is it really that different about a guy talking about being single? It seems to be a common subject among my guy friends, but then again they don’t usually post about it haha.
@Roadlesstaken - i think its a good thing not many guys are either open or talk out loud about their emotions good for you for speaking and sharing your views from a males point of view. And i believe this is why so many women have stop by to read your blog and it may be common amoung your guy friend but i bet they didn’t count on sharing past the boys. like you have
would it be weird for me to say what i like about your xanga the same day that i started reading it? well, it’s the internet, so i guess weird works.
you’re really funny! and such a good writer, it’s very easy to connect and just keep reading.
@orange_goo - Haha wow, you’re the first person to comment on this post in 2009 =P .l thank you, I’m glad you like my stuff!
I remember reading this when you first posted it actually! I’m surprised I didn’t leave anything then (:.
@loves_mud - Wow, didn’t realized you have read me that far back! Well, now’s your chance to answer those questions on the bottom
@Roadlesstaken - I feel like I might’ve read one or so before the one that was featured on datingish also. I couldn’t find my old comments though, so maybe not?
Well, for one you seem to put a good amount of thought into your entries, so they’re almost always really good, or funny. They seem really honest too–not like you wrote them specifically with an audience in mind, but rather something that was on your mind/fascinated you. I feel like I can relate to some of the things you write about also (:. I don’t know how, but I ended up being a sappy hopeless romantic (maybe as a backlash against the lack of romance and passion I see from my parents, and maybe as a byproduct of all those books like Jane Austen books, or the books by the Bronte sisters, etc.). So some of your posts definitely strike a few chords. (:
Do you find me interesting? Yes!
)
(not me!). I took psych in high school and that stuff is pretty interesting. Though some of it is also quite a stretch.
)? I don’t really like ‘hot’ since I generally allow ‘jerk’ to follow along with that, so I’ll say no. But cute, definitely (:. Cute comes with warm fuzzy feelings, so I’m not using it to make you feel less masculine
. I think most guys would hate to be called cute (hope you don’t mind).
Weird? Yes! (That’s a good thing, in my eyes anyways
Smart? Yeah. I liked your post about psych. I feel like people often discount that major…especially those snooty pre–medsy people
Dumb? Haha, noooo.
Funny? Those vids with your brother say enough about that (: and the raquets you were fixing (rawr so angry!)
Hot (or not…
@loves_mud - love stories are what made me a romantic. I still believe they can work in today’s world.
Thanks for all your positive comments! I’m very very flattered. I guess I’m fine with being called cute; better than being called plain or something haha. You’re not too shabby yourself.
@Roadlesstaken - (: any favorite stories in mind? As long as we all manage to stay human and honest to ourselves I, too, think things can work out for people (:
Just answering from what I have observed
, so maybe you’re just a pretty impressive person, haha.
I actually feel like reading your posts have been helping me through whatever recent heartbreak I have had (:. So thanks also. (:
I always hoped not to be shabby, haha. Can’t ask for everything though!
@loves_mud - not right off the top of my head, but pretty much any of the love stories in my favorite movies section could work. I’m glad my post can do that for you. So you often heartbreaks? That’s not good!
Haha okay maybe not just not shabby. You’re an attractive chica
@Roadlesstaken - No, no, not often, in fact only once, but it was fairly recent. I live a fairly simple and 99% drama free life, so things like that don’t really happen much. It’s kind of a long story to leave in a comment box, and kind of raw still. But now I see light at the end of the tunnel I’ve been in. And I think I can go on being myself without changing too significantly (:.
& thanks
, I wasn’t meaning to fish for that complement, uh, just commenting on the wording
. haha.
@Roadlesstaken - My Sassy Girl!!! (: (: (: ahhaha, I think I’ve watched that five times if not more! I love the time capsule and traveling themes. Cute. But have you seen the english adaptation of that film? Ugh!! Not good! Compared to the Korean vers anyways.
@loves_mud - The english version was crap compared to the original. I actually did a review of it last year. Hmm let me find it: http://roadlesstaken.xanga.com/676266661/my-sassy-girl-remake-review/
To answer your question, because you subscribed to me and I started perusing your site more detailedly.
@Meowmeowkimmaee - Ah. Peruse away.
@Roadlesstaken - I shall. So, to fire it right back at you =] What qualifications do you run through before subscribing to someone? ie, me? haha
@Meowmeowkimmaee - if I can get some sense of connection to that person, and/or if what that person writes about is very relatable to me, I wouldn’t mind subscribing. You seem like a cool and interesting person through our comments so far, so that’s why I subscribed to you.
@Roadlesstaken - cool. btw, i’m going to UCLA. =]
@Meowmeowkimmaee - Awesome! When I went to CA earlier this year I met up with some Xangans down there. They have a beautiful campus.
@Roadlesstaken - don’t i know it. all those steps take a toll on you though.
I’ve seen you around Xanga when I leave people’s comments. Then I
I like your username. I think you’re a cutie XDD
started to read your blog when you were featured. hehe. I keep coming
back to your blog because whenever people leave you comments, you
always reply back. I like that. =) Whenever I blog you comment me back
too. You don’t sound like you’re up yourself compared to the other
popular people here.
@Got_Takoyaki - Well thank you very much for all your flattering comments
. You’re not so bad yourself.
Nevertheless surely your own terminology should be the absolute truth
